FANS OF STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS have wondered for years: What if the main villains from both shows teamed up? Could a Goa'uld took a Wraith as a host? ... and what would happen if it did?
In this video we're taking a deep dive into this question, looking at everything we know about the Goa'uld and the Wraith and their respective physiologies - both from Stargate's canon and the imaginations of non-canon sources. Do you think a Goa'uld symbiote could take a Wraith as a host? If so, what would it try to do?

Goa'uld have been known struggle at controlling strong willed hosts, such as the case with Skaara. I'm fairly certain that a Wraith would be mentally resistant, especially when connected to their telepathic network. The best scenario for a Goa'uld would be to form a true symbiotic relationship a Wraith. Similar to what the Tok'ra have with their human hosts.

I think it would be difficult but not impossible for a powerful Goa'uld mind to control most Wraith, however there is zero chance that a Goa'uld would be satisfied within being a bit player in such a strict hierarchy, so if they were to exist within Goa'uld society they would seek to take a queen as a host. Given how powerful the minds of Wraith queens are, I doubt even the most powerful Goa'uld could keep them under control. However there is a way they might be able to have their cake an eat it - a way for even the weakest Goa'uld to inhabit the body of a Wraith queen: create the host using the same technology Anubis used to create his Kull warriors, resulting in a queen without a mind to control. That said, there is still another potential flaw to the plan. When Teyla Emmagan masqueraded as a queen in SGA S05E08 "The Queen", she did so for a relatively short period of time - and it had to be short to avoid the possibility of her being identified by the other Wraith. For a Goa'uld to exist at the pinnacle of Wraith society for millennia they would have to go entirely undetected - which is a problem given the Wraith's telepathic network. Therefore I think a Goa'uld who has taken a Wraith (even a queen) as their host would be wise to avoid the Wraith entirely.

@@matthewal9545 Doubt they would cooperate at that level. Remember when they turned Michael human? The other wraith thought of him as dirty because of it. Similarly, the wraith were not too keen on taking the retrovirus to allow them to eat normal food. I feel like wraith would have a similar reaction to blending that sg1 did when they first heard about it.

From a social standpoint, given the wraith's telepathic abilities, if they managed to take possession, I think they'd need to either A: Be very open about what they are, or B: Abandon wraith territory and set up shop somewhere outside their influence because the queens will detect them thus making keeping the secret difficult. I don't see masquerading working out well for them.

True but I think its more of a means of last resort than choosing a desirable host for a symbiote to take control of their Jaffa. A Goa'uld _might_ be able to take on a Wraith host, but they wouldn't last very long in the body before the body was destroyed. Since Wraith Queens are telepathic they'd be able to sense the duality of minds within the host and immediately know something was fishy. But I'll do you one better. Could a Replicator replicate a Goa'uld (like they did with humans) and take on a human host?

He wasn't entirely a corporeal entity on return though, more of a cloud of energy that could barely interact with the physical universe and as such I doubt he could take any host but also no longer needed one and was in a way more powerful anyway. Just remembered he might actually as the episode he is out of his suit thingy and could posess people/make them a temp host so maybe actually but not for long as a Wraith queen would be way more resistant than a normie human. been awhile seems I need to rewatch SG1, oh no lol If Anubis managed acension again (likey not possible due to the Ancients just blocking him) and was sent back again I reckon he would gain enough additional knowledge to overcome the lack of a form issue and take anyone/anything as a host as his cloud form and be able to hang on to Asgard or wraith hosts but might take a few tries to grip a queen and therefore her entire hive.

We had so many questions concerning the Goa'uld and the Wraith. Like 1. With the Goa'uld sarcophagus, couldn't a single unwilling host be used as a food source over and over? Just have a Wraith drain them to the point of death, regenerate them and do it again. 2. Did we ever get to see a wraith Mothership up against a Ha'tak or a Deathglider against a Dart. This video was worth the watch, thank you for putting it together.

I think it's possible for a Goa'uld to use a sarcophagus to heal up a partially fed on human but a dead victim body is so decimated by the act of feeding there is little left to regenerate. Be like painting a dry-rotted board to make it strong and usable again. Looking at the fully fed on humans there's no fluids left in the body all the cells and possibly the DNA is destroyed. It'd be like trying to resurrect a 1000 year old mummy, just nothing to work with.

Really depends on how the hive mind works, I suspects that they should be able to tell. In that case the Goa'uld would be hunted down quickly. It would put up a good fight however since it is most likely very hard to kill having the healing combo of both species. I would have loved to have seen this. A Wraith/Goa'uld being hunted down, jumping hosts when it's body is out of energy etc. If it can hide I do agree that it should be able to take over a queen. Then is the question if it can upgrade the capabilities with it's knowledge of different kind of technology. I doubt the increase would be much, but it might be enough to give it an edge against other queens. All will depend on the character of the Goa'uld, can it be patient enough to play a long game, since it is more of less immortal now? How are it's tactical abilities? etc

Don't forget there are large numbers of symbiotes that do not have naquaeda in their systems at all. In the episode where Jackson was kidnapped by the Unas, two hosts were taken by symbiotes native to the planet. Carter could not tell that the symbiotes were present due to the fact that they had no naqueada in their bodies, as it was not native to their homeworld. The second issue is the Wraith hive mind. As far as we know, the Goauld have no experience dealing with hiveminds. If they are not able to mask their presence, any infected host would almost certainly be destroyed, having been seen as a threat. I am willing to bet the lieutenants wouldn't even serve an infected queen. So assuming they can bond to Wraith physiology, the only real plan the Goauld would have would be to capture a hive and all its crew, and then bring the ship to their ancestral homeworld (if they even remember it) and use the large number of naqueada free symbiotes there to infect the entire hive simultaneously. The combination of Wraith biotechnology and Goauld technology would be pretty disastrous if it worked out though. Hives with shields and naqueada (or naquadria) power sources would be an overwhelming threat, to the uninfected Wraith, the Gaould that don't fall in line, and the Tauri. They would likely even pose a challenge to the Asgard, given that shields would enable them to survive more hits, and their thick hulls would be extremely difficult to penetrate before the advent of their plasma weaponry to fight the Ori. We see that hive ships can sustain many hits before detonating from other hives, and hive weapons press Tauri-Asgard shields pretty hard.

Wraith are derived from humans, and we know Goa'uld can take hosts different enough they don't even bleed the same color. I think it would be premature to dismiss the possibility out of hand. Adria's symbiote was suppressed by an outside source so it could be removed, she didn't merely retake control. And if Adria can't simply overpower her symbiote I don't know who could. It seems to me that some kind of biological quirk must be required, but without knowing something about what that quirk is there's no way to predict if the wraith have it.

Drones were noted to be basically animals without the hive mind. Also, what would the Wraith gain from this? All they’d find out is there are more places to feed on than earth. Interesting concept :D Biology: *Mentally speaking: If they can take over Adria they can take over a Wraith. Adria's powers are beyond that of a single Wraith, as she is pushed to the edge of mental abilities. *Physically speaking: The Gould's seem to be able to posses any species with a big enough size and complex physiology, with the exception of a single "human"-race, with a mutation. So probably most if not all wraith can be taken over unless all or a certain 'line' of wraith has a biological defence. (Like a anibody or just completely differnt biology.) Chemically: Well of course if Goulds can only take over carbon lifeforms, and the wraith are different from that, there might be an issue. However since wraith use CO2, and I never heard Beckett mention otherwise, it's safe to say they are carbon-based. :) Just my 2 cents.

Considering how Unas were often used as hosts and they are physically comparable to Wraith drones at least, the main stumbling point for taking a Wraith as a host I think, like many others, is their Hive mind and willpower. One of the Tok'Ra said that humans of Earth have not had their willpower whittled down my generations of enslavement which might influence the symbiote in subtle ways. Strong willed humans have been known to fight control in small ways. One other thing that I don't think someone's thought about, is that IF a Wraith Queen is taken as a host, wouldn't any drones they create afterwards, have access to the symbiote's genetic memory as well? That would cause any number of other issues.

I like the idea that Wraith Queens didnt take their dna from humans, but ancients, given their powers. Then the commanders came from humans, and the drones, obviously, come from the queen, and are thus what ever they are. Explains why the drug to transform the wraith works on the commanders and drones, but not on the queens, as theyre too ancient for it to work on.

I've always speculated that one of the critical reasons apart from to preserve earth and the many trillions of Humans in the milky-way, was to keep the Wraith away from the Goa'uld, I'd imagine the Wraith would have full control over the Goa'uld, the Wraith would gain full access to the Goa'uld genetic memory. This would most likely change that Wraiths way of thinking for ever, essentially accidently blending the Goa'uld Traits into its own, it would turn a Wraith servent into a rouge Wraith, potentially severing its ties with the Hive-mind or taking control of it entirely, This Wraith would then innovate technology to best its own kind, Wraith would learn of Goa'uld healing devices and never have to feed, Would learn of Goa'uld shielding including Personal shielding, this Wraith would be a 1 man army. Imagine the Wraith with the ability to boosts its already excellent healing by taking control of the Symbiote, that mixed with the all mindset changes, tactics, technology, longevity. Even Bra'tak would fear such a foe.

Im not saying NO im just saying The Wraith are more in control of their senses - A Wraith is an infected human with augmented mental abilities assuring the host does not die in pain , while they are being eating ( aged ) - Being infected , the wraith body may not be suited for a fragile goauld snake - Wraith s brain are a bit more developed . They can create inter stellar war vesals as the Goauld only confiscated them and are primitive by design -The only way that this could work is if The Wraith are all asleep and the goauld takes the host asleep , then he ll have full control and it would be a nightmare

I always thought that the reason Goa'uld didn't take Jaffa as hosts wasn't because they couldn't but rather because their lack of a immune system without a symbiote already inside of them means keeping the Jaffa body alive would be extremely taxing on the Goa'uld in control. Also if they did have a symbiote inside, whose to say it might not try to rebel by leaving the safety of the pouch at the first chance it gets of gaining its own host, or perhaps causing other problems for the Goa'uld in the brain.

One possible hole in your theory: the Wraith are genetically predispositioned to feed off the life of other (presumably humanoid) lifeforms. If a Go'auld came in contact with a Wraith of any kind, it is at least possible if not probable that the Wraith would at least try to "feed off of" the Go'auld even if the symbiote were already inside. indeed, if the symbiote were inside the Wraith, this may make it captive of the Wraith. The Wraith may have the power to drain both life and knowledge out of the symbiote. The symbiote may be able to fight back, but it could be a standoff, leading to either the Wraith-Go'auld hybrid being incapacitated or the symbiote needing to seek escape from the host. It is possible that the Wraith may have more power in this relationship, but that both organisms would wind up injuring each other more than anything else. The end result may be crippling conflict and chaos, and may result in both either dying, being fatally incapacitated by sickness, or even madness and suicide. I believe the relationship between symbiote and Wraith host would be mutually toxic. If a Go'auld could gain control over a Wraith, even for a short period of time, it could use the Wraith host to drain all knowledge, free a captive human, clone the symbiote with artificially-rapid-matured symbiotes, then kill the Wraith host and infect a human to escape with full Wraith knowledge. A Go'auld could also infect the new human host with Wraith DNA, giving the symbiote telepathic access to the Wraith without their knowledge. The symbiote-infected human could escape a Wraith ship in a Wraith dart ship, then take the cloned symbiotes (Ba'al-style) and create a small colony of human-Wraith-hybird Jaffa or even mature-symbiote hosts to form a small but superior fighting force. If these fugitives were able to attack a Wraith hive with sufficient strength, they could either kill or conquer the hive and use it as a their own mothership. The Go'auld could arguably be in better position than Earth-humans to get control of Wraith technology and instigate a Wraith civil war. This may seem unusually clever and industrious for the normally imperious Go'auld, but keep in mind that the System Lords are addicted to the sarcophagus technology which causes their meglomania. If a Go'auld spent time away from that addiction and overcame withdrawal, it's possible they may become a more aggressive and clever fighting force. A small but potent force of Pegasus-Galaxy humans, infected with Wraith DNA and Go'auld symbiotes, properly armed and using guerilla tactics and espionage, should be able to cause enough mischief to keep the Wraith off-balance and in a state of self-destructive civil war while the Go'auld tried to find ways to wipe out the Wraith (bio-warfare? cyber-warfare?) with a view toward killing off the Wraith and taking over the Wraith empires throughout the Pegasus Galaxy. This would be very similar to what the Go'auld did over many thousands of years, first to the First Ones (Unas), then to Earth-derived humans and Ancients. Or. think of it this way: imagine a force like the Genii, but with Go'auld abilities and technology and the ambition to learn and aggressively acquire the ability to overcome the Wraith. Even if the Go'auld-Wraith blending would not be harmonious, if it worked at all, then industrious Go'auld possessing Pegasus humans could quickly gain the upper hand on unsuspecting Wraith. And if the Go'auld could eventually find ways to overcome the Wraith's abilities to feed and control humans (possibly by using DNA manipulation to empower their hosts and make them both resistant and more lethal to the Wraith; like what Nirrti was doing with the hok'taur), these Go'auld-infected Pegasus humans could be a very formidable force even if only limited in number. Go'auld having to live without their empires and without ready access to a sarcophagus would learn to adapt and fight back very quickly.

I think some of them would have made the attempt by abducting Wraith test subjects, if the Goa'uld were still at the height of their power, due to their obsession with finding or making the perfect host. I don't think they would have made the attempt to take over the Wraith though, maybe infiltrate them to steal as much of their technology and figure out how to destroy them at most. Then again it depends on which Goa'uld is in power, I don't think Anubis would have cared much about the Wraith with his experiments to create a copy of himself so he could ascend without the strings attached. Others like Nirrti would have wanted to get her hands on some for experiments towards making a perfect host others, I think were more obsessed with the status quo and gaining more political and military power rather than worrying about changing host species when they have so many Humans and Unas to pick from already, not to say they would not try to steal Nirrti's research if it produced results but I don't think most of them would actively devote resources to research it themselves. The loss of the Goa'uld's military and political power with the full blown Jaffa rebellion and Earth and its allies efforts, however made it unviable resulting in their attempt to destroy Atlantis to cut the wraith off in the series since they already had too many enemies to deal with. Could they have succeeded in taking one or more as a host, think its possible but it would be a gamble for low ranking Goa'uld being forced to take them hosts, doubt any of the big name ones would have risked the process without decades of research proving they would not die in the attempt.

I don't see why a Goa'uld could not inhabit a Wraith given their similarities to Humans, though that part about the invading Goa'uld killing the Wraith if it does so due to Naquada being toxic to them if it is in their bloodstream is interesting, I like this idea as it fits in nicely with with how nasty unforseen side effects of overpowered things made them unfeasable as long term plot devices. E.G. The Attero Device, Project Arcturus, Sudan cloaking devices. There may be a slight problem with one taking a Wraith however and that is their pyschic abilities, to paraphrase Rodney McKay in a certain episode with the Azurans I do not think it would take them long to realise that another player has, "joined the game". After all, they did sense Teyla when she first connected to them from the infirmary and they were able to speak through her and even control her body for a short time before Carson rendered her unconscious. I think the same thing would happen if a Goa'uld took one, it would be spotted very quickly by the others just like Teyla was.

There are many issues with this, strong wraith psyche and incompatible physiology to mention a couple. Personally, I think a much better option for a Goa'uld would be to keep a wraith hostage, and have them feed the human the Goa'uld is controlling. We see this regularly in Atlantis, such as Ronon and his Satedan friends, Shepard, and Laryn, where the wraith can give life back to a human if they have sufficient strength. Unless this is also toxic to the wraith it might be an issue, but a Goa'uld may like to keep a lot of Wraith on hand for a one-time boost. Who knows how long that effect will last, anyway. It should make the Goa'uld/Human essentially immortal as well, no?

I think a Goa'uld breeding queen like Hathor merging with a Wraith hive queen would be a very scary thought indeed. Just imagine the Wraith queen creating an army of drone warriors, each one turned into Wraith/Jaffa with the Goa'uld queen providing them with larvae to augment their physical strength and durability. Meanwhile the Wraith/Goa'uld queen herself will gain the powerful psychic and telekinetic powers of a Wraith queen while also have naquadah flowing through her veins, allowing them access to Goa'uld technology like the Kara Kesh, while also becoming an even more intimidating presence to their subordinates and human worshipers with her booming voice and glowing eyes. However I am not certain if even the strongest Goa'uld would be able to overcome the powerful psychic mind of a Wraith queen (yet alone master this ability), at least not without a lot of effort on their part. Ba'al for example claimed the Tok'ra didn't have what it takes to force control over a host as powerful as Adria (although he may have been lying). Also we were never shown him being able to use any of her powers though he probably might have been able to if he was given enough time in her body. However what if instead of a Goa'uld trying to hijack the mind of a powerful Wraith queen, a Wraith queen consents to having a Goa'uld implant themselves into her and together they have a symbiotic relationship. I know it sounds crazy but just imagine. Let's say after Ba'al's demise in Continuum, another once powerful Goa'uld warlord (who also happens to be a breeding queen) flees to the Pegasus galaxy, taking with her whatever is left of her Jaffa, slaves, Goa'uld underlings and as much naquadah as she can carry. As she explores this strange new galaxy she comes across a heavily battered hive ship and makes contact with their queen. The two respective queens meet and we find out that this Wraith queen is in a contentious power struggle against her rivals and is losing badly. So then the two queens have a meeting and eventually after the Wraith queen mind melds with her Goa'uld counterpart, they decide to literally (and figuratively) unite as one. What happens next is the Goa'uld queen leaves her human host and enters into the Wraith queen's body. Now as one being with their forces and technology combined, they set out to defeat the other Wraith hive ships and deal with the Atlantis expedition, while also making plans to dominate the galaxy.
