@@Steve6cupcakes Actually, if they'd used the November 7 or December5 release timeframes, they'd have timed it even closer to the Japanese park addition's opening. While I think December was always intended for Fitness Boxing 3 to take advantage of New Year's resolutions, swapping DKCR and Mario & Luigi Brothership would have been a savvy move. If they have a Switch 2 Donkey Kong game, and assuming its a physical release, that means two DK games in the same year and obviously the new one is the bigger title. This means DKCR never gets to shine in its own holiday season to boost its sales and its being sent out in January solely to hype a system that really doesn't need any additional hype. It also would have moved a Mario RPG in Mario & Luigi Brothership out of the very long shadow cast by Dragon Quest III HD-2D that was launching the very next week, and also avoid competition with Paper Mario for first party RPG holiday sales. Nintendo pretty much marched Brothership right into the firing line and it got slaughtered in Japan as most RPG players did not want to commit to Mario & Luigi and be partially finished before DQ3 came along. Nintendo would have been wiser to swap Mario & Luigi into January 2025, which not only would have made the very first month of SMB's 40th anniversary about the brothers and not DK, but greatly improved the sales potential of both games. (Actually selling games makes money; hype doesn't make any.) And for all the same reasons you could use DK to boost Switch 2, you can do the same with the Mario brothers and not just hit up the Switch 2 launch but other Mario games likely coming throughout the year.

Might not mean anything but I recall Nintendo first revealed the N64 in the same event where they revealed Donkey Kong Country for SNES. It was clever because they let the audience think DKC was running on the new console (the graphics were very distinctive for the time) before revealing it ran on the SNES.

However if you look at specific track records for specific people you can filter out the nonsense and find actual leaks, like Nate who has a nigh rock solid track record. This followed by multiple separate news outlets hearing the same thing, multiple other rock solid leakers hearing the same thing, and Kit and Krysta believing what’s been said should be enough evidence imo.

Maybe they use DKCR HD, but I'm not sure showing a Wii-era game on Switch 2 is really all that impressive. I think its much more likely to be three or four Switch-era games seen for a few seconds each. I'd say Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, and Pikmin 4 are good candidates since none of those series is likely to get a new Switch 2-exclusive title this year. (MP4 and Pokemon Legends Z-A would be new, but not S2-exclusive.) Games that get a performance boost, including third party games, would also be good candidates, though these may need an on-screen caption for us to know we're viewing upgrades. If we see other giant IPs like 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, or Splatoon then we're probably seeing the future Switch 2-exclusive title in those series. Nintendo certainly needs to show backwards-compatibility, but I don't think they want to repeat the confusion brought on by the Switch reveal over whether things like the Splatoon clip was a port or a sequel. If we see these IPs than I'd hope Nintendo's messaging was much clearer that its new stuff you won't be able to get on Switch 1.

Fans tend to over stress the importance of things. I mean, I love DK as much as the next guy but January games aren't typically expected to sell dozens of millions of copies. It's a re-release of a re-release. Out of the titles we know about this year, I dare say this would be the best one to shout over. They are still going to be releasing a game a month (and why wouldn't they, there are 150M Switch users!) If they aren't going to show off any games, I do hope they have at least an E3 style tech demo (like Wii U had Zelda.) that would have folk dreaming about an Ocarina remake lol.

I really don’t understand why people think DK is being thrown under the bus. As much as I love Returns it’s an overpriced port of a 15 year old game. The people that are going to buy it fall into two categories, fans who will buy a Switch 2 right away anyway and casuals who aren’t going to buy a Switch 2 immediately. A Switch 2 reveal overshadows the release yeah, but it’s not like it’s just gone. It will still be on store shelves before the Switch 2 comes out, and it’s going to be backwards compatible so the “brand-new” DKC game you bought months prior still works.

People saying that Nintendo is torpedoing DKC Returns releases by having the Switch 2 reveal on the same day but show me this hypothetical person who is no longer buying the game because the Switch 2 was announced the day of release. Honestly, you probably can't. Nintendo has been marketing DKC Returns to weeks now. It all doesn't happen on release day. People have largely already made up their mind if they are going to buy it or not. So announcing the Switch 2 on the day of release probably does nothing to the potential DKC sales, despite Nintendo fans thinking it will for some reason.

The only "logical" explanation I can think of is the all but disproven scenario that Nintendo did change their schedule due to the leaks, and as I said that scenario has more holes in it than swiss cheese. On the lack of games, Nate himself was unsure of what it meant as he too couldn't envision them just showing the hardware with a blank screen, but he and one other outlet of note have heard that. Either way we'll see soon, and I'll save my crazy theory for my other comment. Nintendo once again being the kings of left field, have certainly found a way to surprise me despite everything.

I didn't buy Luigi's Mansion 2 HD because 3D is the DEFINITIVE way too experience both LM 1 and 2. LM1 was planned to be in 3D for the GCN (hence why it was later ported to the 3DS), and of course LM2 was designed for the 3DS from the start. Putting it in 2D, regardless of the resolution, cheapens the experience.

I'm unclear on the licensing for it, but I think MLB The Show has exclusive video game rights to MLB and MLBPA properties, names, and likenesses. The Ken Griffey Jr game would be a "fake league" game and would really struggle in market against The Show. This is a major reason why Konami hasn't tried to bring Powerful Pro Baseball to the west in a long time (and back when they did, they had rights to some MLB licenses)

I would be absolutely delighted if we are entering a new golden age for Donkey Kong. The fact that DK was so heavily featured in the Mario film and now has his own expansion in the theme parks is also highly suggestive. Just because the only "new" game of which we aware is a remaster, it does not mean that is the end of his revival. In a very strange way, it seems like the delay of MP4 could turn out to be more fortuitous for Nintendo. Aside from the fact that the series has never achieved sales figures it deserved, I do think it would serve as the best "tech demo" for a reveal trailer. Either way, it already has a mythology of its own, given its development history. However, I Nate the Hate's "leak" is intensely puzzling to me. He said that Nintendo would want to feature the console and not have games take away from the hardware. Perhaps this is indeed appealing to investors, but if that's true it seems like they have forgotten what made them so much profit over the last eight years. I forget when they officially announced it, but a billion software sales must have higher margins than hardware. Yes, I know Nintendo does not sell consoles at a loss. But surely shareholders understand that Nintendo is in the business of selling experiences, whether via games, amusement parks, films, etc. I think the only way Mario would undermine efforts to promote new hardware is if the next 3D game is cross-gen. Maybe that's why he can't appear in the reveal. They need to motivate people to buy the Switch 2 without alienating the current install base. But evergreen titles are available even to people who buy a Switch on Thursday. Either the launch titles are revolutionary, in which case the hardware will shine, or they are just incremental improvements, which would undermine any excitement they build with the reveal. Personally, I don't care about gadgets. I won't be truly excited until I can see what I will be playing in the fall.

And secondly, this feels contradictory to say you think it’s a much lower chance to see a new game at all, but that a game is probably more likely than not? Now, for my thoughts on the matter as a whole- I feel very confused on the timing and a tiny, little bit frustrated. Let me unpack the frustration first, since I know it’s irrational and when I ruminate on everything, I find myself not feeling frustrated anymore. Like, if my profile picture isn’t obvious, I’m a big Donkey Kong fan, and I have been pretty excited for Returns HD, since it was the first DK game I ever beat. Not first owned, as a side note, that’s DK64. But it feels a bit disheartening if the reveal is on Thursday, since that feels like DK’s being thrown under the hype train, not helped by seeing plenty of people dismissing DK as “just an overpriced port”. Don’t get it twisted, though, I agree the port is their least exciting title this year and I can totally understand revealing Switch 2 the same WEEK as Donkey Kong. And I understand anyone who was gonna buy it already planned on buying it, Switch 2 reveal or no. I myself got it with a voucher since I even agree the price feels a bit too high, so I used a voucher I had leftover from last year to save a little bit on it. Plus, it’ll still be on shelves and selling over time. And I know that January titles tend to not be their biggest hitters. And I also know full well Returns HD was never going to be the benchmark they look to when deciding to make a new DK game. Given all those factors listed, it’s really just a stop gap before the next DK game, no doubt. And all this is true regardless of when the Switch 2 gets revealed. So what’s the frustration? Well, at this point, there is none- Like I said, I put things in perspective and recognized I was being irrational in my disappointment. I’d still argue the game is still worth giving a hoot about since it’s a really good game, even if the price tag is annoying, but that’s neither here nor there. But now I get into the confusion. Donkey Kong was revealed and dated back in the June Direct, so we’ve known it was going to be January 16th for months. Why would they reveal the console the exact same day as DK Day? If the reveal was planned months ago, they clearly did not coordinate their dates at all. And if it was moved up to try and control the messaging after all the leaks, it feels like that ship has long since sailed and they missed the boat by the widest of margins. Or at the very least, they could reveal Switch 2 on the Tuesday/Wednesday before DK, since the same day confuses me, but not the same week. And then there’s the contents of the actual, official reveal. If the trailer has hints of new games like the original Switch trailer did, great. But if the rumor is true and it’s just a tech showcase… why did they hold it off for so long? With how rampant the leak discussion has been, I feel like they could have moved up the reveal sooner to better get the messaging straight, so I don’t get why they’d wait until now to do it. Like, if we get a reveal that only shows the console this week, that’s the least surprising and delightful reveal to many of their diehard fans because, let’s face it- we basically know everything. Boy howdy, though, I’m gonna be real happy when Switch 2 is revealed because then people speculating will stop doing their best Mr. Krabs impression that the reveal will happen tomorrow… and the next day… and the next day… and the next day…

DK country type game at launch would literally sell at minimum 3 - 4 million units out of the gate in my opinion. Whether it has legs or not is amother topic for debate but it would sell well, I would guess lifetime would at minimum be 10 million. But.... if its a launch title.

Honestly i dont really like the change away from saying the actual percentages in the video. I appreciate the idea of trying to make it clear and comprehensible to everyone, but the percentages are part of this channel's core focus (forecasting) and i don't think they should be hidden away in subtitles just because some people thought it was trying to be objective. Nintendo of america just anounced today the Alarmo will be available in march to buy in store for those without NSO. plus the anounced Xenoblade chronicles X definituve edition + Game Boy Lego + Dounkey Kong Country returnS HD coming soon. I don't believe there's will be a S2 anouncement made soon.
