If you read through the article you'd see that modern warfare is moving into something you've already played with; the "offense/defense missile salvo". Aircraft Carriers become passive sensors and missile guidance platforms, which fits the PLA-Navy's build-out. The US is behind the curve. The Missile boats for the PLA-Navy are the "new weapon" of the future war. Meanwhile look up FARPs, the US to offset its disadvantages at sea now are repurposing the Marines (Marine Force 2030) to be FARP builders. Forward Area Refueling Points. Basically an "Island hopping 2.0" in order to turn Pacific islands quickly into refueling bases and air strips. Also my personal view is that the Chinese will just bypass Taiwan entirely. Their goal will be to seize Palau and possibly Wake Island and the whole island chains out that far...Solomon islands gets them most the way to Palau. They want to disable Kadena and Guam and replace them with their own Pacific Air Forces. I'm in the process of demonstrating that their military command structure reflects this; easier said than done. But, if you think about WW2, for instance; it's not like the Germans had a "Berlin defense division" that ended-up in Stalingrad. The divisions and their corps command structures often betray intentions. I expect the PLA has betrayed their intention to bypass Taiwan with their PLA-RF and Air Force squadrons. Taking a look at their "Brigidization" is already the first clue. Where an Air Force brigade can be rebased in some Forward operating theater. This was not possible before 2017 when the command structure were divisions centered around the "Theater command headquarters". What possible reason does China need a Brigidization of their huge Air Force if their only objective were for the Eastern Theater Command to take over Taiwan? Conclusion; China has no interest in Taiwan. It's a distraction to purposefully obscure their real intention to take over the Pacific out to Wake Island. apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/AD1082606.pdf

It would be awesome to see the run again but this time with the AWACS pushed out to see a bit more instead of orbiting around the island. There’s no way a flight of Bears that large transits that far without being noticed so USAF/USN would absolutely have a heads up and push assets in that general direction to observe. That would give the raptors a very realistic earlier heads up and better reaction time. Also, maybe try an analog for the AEGIS Ashore system (even if it’s a destroyer off the coast to simulate it. That would be a fun slightly futuristic battle.
@harrisonpeck1308 ай бұрын

USN has had a Tico and one other tin can offshore as air defense since I was in the service in the 90's, so I'd say the air defense was lacking as well. The Russian attack came from the wrong direction and US would definitely see this coming from about 1000 miles away. That said, Raptors would be able to intercept at best ranges and F-16s would also have time to be loaded up in Murder Spec. Don't know how many Patriot systems on the island, but seems like one is super low.
@harrisonpeck1308 ай бұрын
@@species3167 idk about the patriot system itself but I know the THAAD unit in Guam just recently relocated to another one of the islands. Apparently the issue they were having on the main island was that they didn’t have enough space to employ every launcher to make a complete battery. A big concern is not creating a big eye sore for the locals, not disrupting the tourism market, etc. But definitely just like you said, no way a flight of Bears gets that close without being spotted earlier, especially not a flight that large.

I would like to see 4-6 bears firing a full loadout at the edge of their range, the island will get no early warning and the fight will basically start when the missiles are way too close. That many missiles are unrealistic and not a fair way to beat an air defense. Let us see if the defenses are capable to detect the missiles coming from multiple directions and with no early warning. The Bears just like the B52 are very old bombers that only make sense for long long range strikes. They are in no danger at all in such a strike mission.

I think as you say at the start, were it for real the Bears would be picked up on Satellite far before they ever got close enough and smashed to bits like pinatas 1,000 miles off the coast of Guam. So to make the defence perhaps more feasible I think there's three potential scenarios that could make it a bit more balanced: 1. A flight of say 4 F-22s is conducting live-fire exercises at the time the bears are spotted by AWACS, and are then redirected. They won't be fully armed as they've been shooting drones down, but even just carrying 2 AIM260s each, they could still feasibly shoot down just over a third of the bears before they got close enough. 2. A US Navy element, say a group of Destroyers, is on exercise nearby and though unable to detect the Bears any earlier, are perfectly able to provide a 'picket' line for the airbase. 3. A brief malfunction of observation satellites is what lets the bears get close, but they're spotted at more like 450-500 miles out, giving the F22s more time to scramble and their missiles more time to hit their targets - frankly this is the worst option IMO as it's just a case of tweaking distances and timings such that a select number of F22s engage a select number of TU95s before they launch. And if that is all you're going to do, why not simply remove a few F22s and corresponding TU95s from the scenario altogether?
@aztec01128 ай бұрын
This would have been the opening act of a war. Large scale bomber formations 1000 miles out to sea, in INTERNATIONAL AIRSPACE, while provocative, even if deliberately so, is not illegal. It bears watching for sure, and there would be high level communications, warnings and threats but until an ADIZ or boundary is busted, or a missile falls out of the belly, it could just be formation practice.
@daredemontriple68 ай бұрын
@@aztec0112 True, but the scenario assumes a state of conflict anyway as no country's national airspace extends to 370 miles beyond it's borders! So regardless of communications, the only way the US could make a legal first strike here is if they left it late enough for the Bears to launch all their missiles anyway. All of which is entertaining the idea that the US wouldn't voluntarily make that first act of war should 2 entire regiments of strategic bombers come within 400 miles of an airbase and presumably fail to turn away or respond at all to radio commands. After all if it was just formation practice, why are they doing it 400 miles East of Guam, which is to say the wrong side of the island from Russia *and* a long way away too!

Realistically, these ALCMs would have been launched from within Russian airspace to attack Guam, so I understand that you want to make the video interesting and have the Bears involved in the fight. For your scenario, any OOA involving Bear H (especially 22 of them!) would have had intel cueing, so there is no excuse for not having intercepted them prior to launching their ALCMs. A massive 22-ship of Bear Hs would have seen at least the whole squadron of 18-21 F-22s waiting at various CAPs and not on ground alert. Finally, not putting enough AAMs on station to address the possible amount of incoming ALCMs is a huge fail.

Can you use your wing to knock them off course or does it do too much damage to the aircraft? I also would like to see a do over on this, I think the US would have a few assets in the air on patrol. If they was able to knock a few down before they got to the launch distance to see if the other Bears would turn around.

I absolutely love these kinds of videos that yall do. One thing has been bugging me though. Even in the 80's it wasn't hard for the intel guys to figure out that a regiment of Bears was scrambling for a raid and could guestimate what target the raid was going for and warn any assets that are in the strike range of the raid. I cant speak for the airforce, but in the 80s a csg would get all of their 14s in the air and have ready to engage way prior to detection. The f18s had buddy tanks and would keep the 14s topped off, so that as soon as the raid was detected the cats would turn and burn for intercept. I think it would be safe to assume that intel capacities have increased exponetially since then so I would love to see some of the more popular videos involving american CSGs where all the birds all already airborn and at altitude when the scenario starts. For roleplay purposes you could reduce their gas a bit to simulate loitering and waiting for detection of the raid
@drewswitzer75748 ай бұрын
One major flaw with this scenario, Guam would have heard that many Bears coming hours before they arrived, and if they didn't the submariners would have picked them out on sonar and let the fly boys know.😅

In reality, US SIGINT would've tripped and provided early warning of the raid. Marshalling that many aircraft, especially bombers, will require some kind of radio/comms chatter, etc. So, the Raptors would've intercepted them much farther out.

Could you make a video with all your custom missile files? I want to play the Eurofighterm but do not enjoy how much the Meteor overperforms. You explained in one of your videos with the plane that you reduced its stats for realism, could you explain that?
@ttpechon25358 ай бұрын
GR has their own versions of most mods, which I don't think they've released to the public. They tend to gloss over how much of what they've changed too. If you want to change it yourself, go to the mod folder, then look for a folder in that called weapons, then loadouts folder, and there should be several lua files in there, these are the files for the custom weapons, you can edit their stats there. It is rather complex though, and there's zero documentation so good luck.
@intlon42998 ай бұрын
@@ttpechon2535 Exactly, I am asking for them to release their own versions or explain the changes they made and how they did it.
@rebelliousfew8 ай бұрын
Yeah, and I believe it was either a Russian or Chinese aircraft. I’ve noticed they tend to buff down the stats of Russian/Chinese aircraft and weaponry and call it “realism” when those stats were all originally modeled to public data. I think they insert their own bias into them, even though they claim to only use data that is publicly available. They really should address all changes they make to these mods and explain in detail why they do it for better transparency. Maybe there’s something I’m missing, but I’ve taken a look at all the Russian/Chinese mods they have listed, and most, if not all, operate exactly to how public data states they should act. So, I’m not sure what their reasoning is for buffing them.
@ttpechon25358 ай бұрын
@@rebelliousfew Main comment is literally talking about how they made the Meteor worse. I'm pretty sure most the mods they've changed have been made worse by them, I don't think there's any bias. They changed them according to there own research, and then tend to go the safe side, I remember Cap talking about the changes they made to the F-35 and how they went with the bigger RCS estimates. All the battles seem pretty fair.

@Justanotherconsumer8 ай бұрын
Scenarios like this one definitely make the case for maximum weight of missiles from a single launched interceptor, though more ground based batteries (data linked to planes that can actually see the threat) would probably be a better solution.

If the bombers are projected to launch entire payload of cruise missiles before being intercepted, why not save Raptor missiles to target the cruise missiles? Once the bombers have dropped their load they no longer pose a threat.

If the mission was to defend Guam, how does targeting the bombers, all of which have already loosed their weapons support the immediate mission goals? Knowing the bombers would be empty by the time y'all got in range, why not hold the Raptors back, let the bombers go, and use all air assets to engage missiles. Also the USN would reasonably have a guided-missile ship in Apra Harbor.

Because real-world, depriving Russia of two regiments of Bears is *way* more impactful than preventing missiles from hitting runways. There appears to be at least one SeaBee (construction engineer) battalion organic to the Guam garrison and there is at least a dozen commercial concrete suppliers near the base - Smithbridge Guam has 30 trucks alone. Repairs to the damage would be limited mostly by the concrete curing time, not by equipment/manpower to shove the wreckage out, fill and compact aggregate, and resurface. They could probably get at least one runway back to full operation in less than 48 hours. But those Bears are literally irreplaceable. Russia only has ~40 operational. Losing half is a crippling loss. Not to mention the loss of ~170 equally irreplaceable missiles for no real effect. The Russian general that ordered this strike would find himself defenestrated before the end of the week. The scenario as devised is a good demonstration of how missile saturation works, but the target selected is too low value - the juice ain't worth the squeeze. For this strike to be viable - knowing that the Bears are on a suicide mission - the target needs to be much higher value. Like a carrier? ...or the missiles must be nuclear, and spread out over the island, such that the effect is to "sink" Guam...
@aztec01128 ай бұрын
@@mfreed40kThey failed to protect the base. Mission failed, Guam neutralized. Doesn't matter how many bombers destroyed if you have no base to return to.

@@FNRGreat analysis, but a lot of what ifs remain. IIRC Russians, during the Cold War, anticipated huge, if not catastrophic, losses during the opening phase of a war. It's also not just the runways that would be targets, but also POL, C2, hangars and the like. With PGUA knocked out, in this scenario, Guam would be ripe for follow up attacks and/or air/sea landings etc. It would also make sense to attack Apra Harbor and send a few warheads to Agana and Won Pat. I'm not really a fan of the single direction, no feint, aerial frontal assaults. The mission here, as designed, pretty much guaranteed failure. The only choice was whether or not to attack the bombers or the missiles. Red was always going to loose the missiles. That's why, given the mission parameters, attacking the bombers would guarantee failure. Loved your analysis of the recovery effort though 👍👍
