Cap what you could do for the Argentinians is to do this mission with the modernized Argentinian Air force you did not long ago! Using JF-17s as fighters and the 23 Skyhawks for bombers + their ships have working SAMs.

yeh we might get some insight into that from the Ukraine war (what impact cost has on whats used for what). In a few years to come when the truth starts coming out itll be interesting to see how the cost of the western munitions balanced against the effect. And also of course how did Russias expensive systems manage in terms of cost v impact. As in a slugging match, weapons like the meteor can suddenly become a liability... unless of course if what few there are, are enough. Certainly cost is a big issue in the uk. Our kit is often the most advanced on the planet - but we dont have the money to make enough of it.

@@r200ti Valid point. The Russians (and Novorussiyan/Eastern Ukrainians) have simply been using cheap artillery rounds because they do the job. Can be produced 10 times as fast as the "guided" rounds too. Not sure how many Meteors Mt Pleasant would have on hand, but I doubt in the cost-conscious RAF if they would have more than 1 full combat load on hand. If given this tactical problem, I'd have used cheap drones or something first to draw off the meteors, but it is what it is. A-4s can only do so much against Gen 4.5 a/c You'd get the same result with F-16V, F-15EX, Rafale or others.

It’s the 5 Astute class submarines, 1 of which may or may not be in the area at any given moment that really makes the Argentines think another invasion is a bad idea. Unless you know for definite that all 5 are in port in the UK you are going to be very wary of attacking. The first you will know of its presence is when you start losing ships and other Assets, and even then you won’t know where it is.

UK Gov would be aware well in advance of the launch of any actual assualt. A small number of C17s would be able to reinforce the Islands extremely quickly with the likes of 3 CDO Bge and 16 Air Asslt. The differencve in global SIGINT available to UK Mil now compared to 1982 is astronimical.

Except like in 1982. The capability isn’t the problem. The politics are. The Falklands garrison was deliberately thrown under the bus. The marines had give 3 weeks warning to the invasion. The home office refused to acknowledge or action anything they were told to hold position at the garrison. Actively pulled ships away from the island. Before the invasion started and the garrison, it’s bunk houses they were told to defend were raped by machine gun fire and grenades in the dead of night. It was a miracle the Marines had broken orders and formed their own defences; knowing they’d been abandoned by britain. The Falklands were REALLY ugly

The likelihood the UK government wouldn’t have intelligence of an upcoming attack isn’t realistic. Also the second those EWR are taken out planes would be scrambled, and that’s not to mention the planes already flying CAP in the first place. I would also be interested in a GR first strike video where older aircraft attack a couple of airfields and weaken the enemy force, but if you can make AI scramble on detection that could be good too. Once GR strike is complete reset the mission missing the airframes and structures that got hit during the strike and use it as public blue vs GR red funday.

They need the AI though as they don't have many real players; plus this isn't a particularly realistic scenario anyway let's face it as the British ground forces aren't modelled, the Argentines don't have nearly that many combat-capable ships or planes in real life and the moment the radars suddenly and unexpectedly went silent to Argie "special forces", the RAF and other British forces there would immediately get suspicious and go on full alert (IF said radar-sites went down at all, as those radar sites are gonna be pretty well-defended & well-secured, the terrain leading up to them's open and pretty rough and the local civilians will all be pro-British and can spot an Argie a mile away)

The west need to come up with decent cheap point-defence systems PDQ. Current systems either don't work (cough, CWIS) or are too expensive. Sky Sabre is a great start using relatively inexpensive ASRAAMS - but they are still too expensive to waste on drones! A single Type 45 based in the Falklands (Which is SOP) can track every single plane the Argentine air force has, then has the capability to engage every single one of them. The Type 45 sensor suite can detect when one of those Argentine planes leave Argentine air space. Really don't need extra resources down there. 1,200 soldiers are based on the Falklands. Also, re scenario 1, to quote the movie Battle of Britain "leave the playing fighters. Its the bloody bombers we want". The Pampas are the ground attackers and aiming to take out the very valuable radars. With no AAMs left the Arg strike would be successful and thus the islands would be more vulnerable for follow on. Even without Meteors the Typhoons can just use their AMRAAM short-range missiles, and after that they can use their 27mm cannons, and after THAT they can return to base, refuel and re-arm and go back up again, which can be done very quickly. Wouldn't be many Pampas left by then, and even if there were and they took advantage of the Typhoons being "down for water"? That's where Sky-Sabre comes in

This 2nd scenario is a crock of crap. IF just one of those EWR’s on West Falkland dropped off-line, it would instantaneously lead to a scramble of the alert Typhoons. Plus the RAF would have known about an Argentine build up, prep’ & launch because of the surveillance assets, in addition to EWR’s.

"2nd scenario is a crock of crap" Kind of correct, but unless they nerf the British response it all plays out exactly like the _first_ scenario, so there's not a lot of point. @@skatman3278 Regarding the scenario, my guess is that with only four fighters if they suspect that an attack is imminent they will try to keep one airborne on patrol using its radar to look for low-flying threats. One with the pilot in cockpit ready to take off immediately. One at a lower level of readiness but still able to take off in maybe 10 to 15 minutes. While the fourth will have recently landed from its last patrol and will be undergoing a little light maintenance while being refuelled but should still be able to be turned around in 30 minutes. They only need to hold out for between 24 and 48 hours until reinforcements can arrive from the UK; probably comprising a further 12 fighters with tanker support, one (or more) 747s filled with troops as well as a couple of AWACS aircraft.

Just in case you are interested, in the late 1970s there was rising tension between Argentina and Chile going on about some territorial dispute for the Beagle channel. Although there was no real combat involved, many times Chilean aircraft would sonic boom over Argentinian airfields, effectively invading restricted air space. Argentinians did the same though. A confrontation would have been very interesting: Chile had mirage Vs, f-5s freedom, canberras and hawker hunters in service, and these force might have been pitted against Argentinian mirage iiis, a-4s skyhawk, Super Etandards, iai daggers and canberras. Argentina also kept in service some f-86 sabres as well.

If you fired one from 19,000m at a target at 1000m it then also has a huge amount of gravitational potential energy to play with: 33.5 million Joules to be exact. That is going to increase range by a significant amount.

The F-5 is a better analogue for the fighting hawk than the free A4. Fighting Hawks have good all aspect Sidewinders and really good radar. Honestly, if you wanted to do it right, you would use a nerfed F-16 (nerf the airframe to fly like an A-4 and Fox 2s only. Getting the radar right is more important than getting the airframe right.) The difference between fighters with intercept radar, and fighters without is night and day. You can't substitute a fighter without a radar for a fighter with a radar. Those Arg fighting hawks are probably very effective fighters within five miles. They have an excellent look down, shoot down radar. The only weakness it has is the lack of a Fox 3 missile. The E-Cs just flew in circles, even when they got close, and then missed with their p5s. Fighting Hawks would get picked off by the meteors at long range and then swarm in and kill at close range.

Agreed. The avionics the Fighting Hawks looks about the same as the F-16A.

Hello valid viewers from the United Kingdom. As an Argentinian let me tell you the top three priorities of our government: 1) printing money 2) printing money 3) printing money occasionally some alarm will come up and they will grab a microphone and shout that recovering the malvinas is a top priority but seconds later they'll get back to printing money. There's also the thing that a generation ago our military were bloody murderers so out of caution no one here wants to give them money (not even pesos) to buy new airplanes so I think the falklanders are safe because these two things (the real priorities of our politicians and the reputation of the armed forces), and not only because of the meteors in your typhoons. See you in the world cup.

Defended from Argentina? Absolutely. Contact your local Boy Scout troop, they will enjoy the field trip. Take along some modern looking scale war jets from the local R/C club so their imagery looks like you have air assets.

Now i am not an expert but does Meteor loft irl? since its an air breathing missile, the higher you go more difficult it will be for the meteor to maintain kinetic energy(just like how jets thruggle up high).

The Argentines aren't much of a threat currently. They only have 32 A-4s in service and all of their efforts to procure replacements in the last 30 years have failed due to financial crisis, political crisis, arms embargoes, or lack of funding.

@@GustaHeavy exceptionally, events put some more in flight, but most of the planes were used for spare parts, the figure of two operatives is for an even sadder reason, they only have four AIM-9L in their arsenal

As well as the river class patrol vessel (the river class in the Falklands is modified to carry a Lynx IX or Wildcat attack helicopter) there is always a frigate or destroyer on patrol in the South Atlantic. Another thing that should be noted is that even with your caveats the Argentine forces are in such a parlours state that they’re cannibalising their own fleet to keep their flagship running. There is also a great deal of stored kit in the Falklands, Argentina is closely monitored and at the first sign of trouble reinforcements could reach the islands by air in 10 hours.

There is also an army garrison of just over a thousand troops, additionally there some Royal Marines and the FIDF.

4 thousand Argentine forces if they landed would never be able to take the runway and reinforcements would push them back into the sea.

Interesting scenario 2. What's more likely is poor maint leading to breakdown of equipment hard to replace with this dysfunctional government giving an opening, but as others have pointed out it would just lead to an increase in patrol to attempt to compensate.

Interesting video, but, if the Skyhawks are sneaking in, then why are the Eurofighters sitting in the hangers all warmed up and ready, I mean it's a sneak attack, no one knows there coming, right, or am I missing what a sneak attack is. 🤔🤔
