This is only one side of the story. The force must have balance, and straying to far to one side is always a threat. They dont get to "use" emotions in battle, they have to actively fight against them otherwise they succumb to the dark side. Being a grey jedi means you are at all times enduring a constant war inside yourself. One side always wins, a grey jedi simply prolongs this process. Imagine it like this, grey jedi are not in a place where they have discovered "true enlightment" or anything like that, instead they are standing atop a pinhead, and even the slightest deviation from their chosen path with make the pin topple over and they will be consumed.

If you want a complete answer: Sith make the force their slave, Jedi are a slave to the force And grey Jedi are partners with the force
@elitegamer93104 жыл бұрын
Well, the Sith do try to bend the Force to their will, but ultimately they instead enslave themselves. By trying to bend the Force to their will, the Force makes them crave power. The stronger a Sith becomes, the stronger they want to be, it's never enough for them. In the Old Republic, it was the Sith who destroyed themselves. Their lust for power lead the Sith Empire into a civil war, which almost resulted in their complete destruction. So in short, the Sith are also slaves to the Force, the Dark side.

The concept "there is no dark, there is no light, only the force" has been an idea that has floated around for ages now, going back to the je'daii comics and the dawn of the jedi series. Personally, i like how this serial explained it, as well as naming the supposed sides. The dotj series explains that a force wielder should aspire to be like the planet tython, as they call it, a state of bendu, balanced between the ebbs of the twin moons, Bogan and Ashla. If one leaned to close to Bogan, or the darkness, they would begin to become corrupted and burned from inside, if they leaned to far to Ashla, or the light, they would become blinded by the light and not see. To correct this, the je'daii who leaned to far to one side or moon, would be sent to the opposite moon to meditate and find bendu or balance. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no fear, there is power. I am the heart of the Force. I am the revealing fire of light. I am the mystery of darkness. In balance with chaos and harmony, Immortal in the Force.

While the path of the Grey Jedi does seem to make the most sense, there are a couple fatal flaws to them when you analyze the more prominent Grey Jedi. They either turn into apathetic cowards choosing to hide away whenever injustices happen rather than act (Jolee Bindo, Zez-Kai Ell and current Luke Skywalker) or they're just a small push away from fully embracing the dark side and becoming psychopathic killers even more so than regular Jedi (Kyle Katarn, Jaden Korr and, from the looks of things, Kylo Ren). I do think that the path of the Grey is the best, but I have yet to see any Grey Jedi break from this pattern.

+RandomBloke On paper that's true. In practice, it's hard to maintain that. The Dark Side isn't simply a tool, it is a corrupting influence that requires constant vigilance and will to keep at bay (this includes knowing when your seemingly selfless desires begin to become self-serving. Easier said than done). The Grey Jedi is an unattainable goal without being either light leaning but apathetic or dark leaning and torn.
@z_is_for_zombie74237 жыл бұрын
J.C. Gleason Honestly that’s most likely an artifact of Star Wars’ classic story structure. There’s the light, and the dark. Those are the only significant players in the conflict. There cannot be a third faction that is anything more than ineffectual. The Star Wars narrative all but demands that grey Jedi be weak and ineffectual, so the spotlight can remain on the Jedi on the sith. So while you have a good point, I don’t think it’s fair to place the blame on a loose organization of Mavericks that, quite honestly, are victims of narrative more than anything else.
@MrDoomGuy937 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's true. Like I said, if the Jedi existed in our world the path of the Grey would definitely be the best. It seems like, ever since the release of Last Jedi, that the main Star Wars canon is only just now starting to add more complexity to the whole Light vs Dark thing. Though I doubt it'll ever reach the levels as the EU (case and point: Revan's character and story).

Finally. A guy who thinks that the grey Jedi wouldn't work. A lot of the people in the fan base thinks that a grey Jedi is the balance in the Force, when in reality there are not, but rather apathetic cowards who go away from civilization , when they can do something about the perpetual wars between the Jedi and the Sith. There's also another kind of grey Jedi, it would be Luke's Jedi Order, they train adults meaning they have already connections to their families and friends, but because of that, their fall of the dark side to be quicker, This already happened in both Legends and Canon, and, you know what, Luke's Jedi Order didn't last a millennium or two centuries, and in the Canon, It didn't even last for a century. I kinda wish that the people in the Star Wars fanbase learn that their fanfic grey Jedi would not actually work and that the Force is not some ying and yang thing, but rather be apathetic cowards just like the Bendu from the Rebels T.V Show or they just made themselves falling to the dark side quicker just like Anakin who let his emotions flow through him and tried to stay in the light side, but ultimately failed. There is a reason why the universe needs both a dark and light side all the time. Why the dualities of these ideals are not shared with these ancient beings that understand the force. Perhaps it was even in reference to the Sith themselves. The force in its natural state is, a force - for a lack of better words. The reason why the “Jedi civil war” is called just that. As a child I idolized the Jedi and grew up wanted to be one but as a teen all I had was hatred towards the world due to what it’s taken from me my father and I then idolized the Sith. Now as a young adult I know I would finally rest in the Grey because I don’t idolize nether group however I want a balance between them and I go with the flow of life even if I had a bad day I trust the universe to guide my path and I shall go and enjoy it all.

Revan was the embodiment of the old Jedi, until he realized that the ways of the Jedi were not meant to stop injustice and murder. He then became a Grey Jedi in all but name and code, fighting for the innocent and weak, with the goal of bettering their fates. Then he discovered that there is a dark menace lurking in the Shadows of Dromond Kaas, and Revan is also discovered by the Sith Emperor Vitiate. He joins the Sith with a clear goal: use whatever necessary to destroy the Sith Emperor (rightfully so!), and that was Revan's downfall. He used the Star Forge and his mind got blurred by the force, like the minds of the Dark Jedi and Sith. The Force bends the minds of Dark Side Users, so that they become even more powercraving. Revan was not craving power for his own good, he was craving power to protect the galaxy against extinction by Vitiate. That's why he was able to "repent" and become "light" sided once again. Of course, Genocide of the Sith Empire's population (see "The Factory") is by no means "light" side, in reality. But maybe in the twisted minds of the Jedi it might.
@techpriest43473 жыл бұрын
Grey Jedi have two definitions depending on when they were written. You're describing the latter grey jedi which were some weird halfway point between the light side and the dark. But that idea runs contrary to the lore of the movies and George Lucas' thoughts on the force. George commonly had two ideas about it, that the light and dark side were the fight between good and evil, and he tried to push some eastern spirituality into it via a yin and yang approach. However his thoughts on the former were much more developed as an idea. Grey Jedi used to mean Jedi that didn't agree with the council, but were otherwise light side affiliated. The dark side of the force is a corrupting... force (yeah, weird way to write it). You can't just dip your toe into having your actions ruled by anger and fear because it will forever define your fate. New Grey Jedi try and pretend that wasn't the message of both the OT and PT
@OfficialWhitson4 жыл бұрын
I mean look at Revan, he constantly evolved becoming more and more powerful when he jumped from Jedi to Sith. But once he was redeemed he truly understood the force and all its abilities becoming one of the first true Grey Jedi, to master both light and dark allowed for balance and control within the force.
@derrickhaggard5 жыл бұрын
Kyle Katarn's teachings to Jaden and Nosh pretty much sum up what it means to be a Grey Jedi "No ability is inherently good or evil it's how you use it." "It's okay to feel angry but don't let anger control you." and finally "Both sides of the Force Light and Dark are two sides of the same spectrum what path you choose is determined by your choices."

Yet, he was also training her to see the BEYOND, the bigger picture because where he ends she begins with furtherance and completion of her training. This will go beyond The Last Jedi movie. The in between is TRANCENDENCE. The beyond is part of the TRANSFORMATION. She must learn and experience both. But, because the movie will cover a portion I think she will only learn a particle of what is needed before trouble dawns.

The corruption comes from the fact that they claim to feel no emotion. By denying that they feel emotion, those feelings become stronger. In fact, the reason they deny feeling anything is because they are afraid of falling to the dark side, which is and of itself, is a paradox. They're afraid to feel, yet they feel fear. That's a pretty big flaw in the jedi.

I think the biggest problem with the Grey Jedi is that they are essentially fence-sitting. They hold no favor with the Jedi or the Sith, and will likely be caught in the middle of any large-scale conflict between the Light Side and Dark Side. Note that there are few Grey Jedi that live on into old age. Once they're too old to fight, the forces of Light and Dark would soon close in for the kill. Either the Jedi would punish them for their morally ambiguous actions, or the Sith would steal their secrets and kill them out of hatred.

He literally DID NOT LISTEN to what they had to say, and as a result brought on his own suffering because of his need for attachment. This is why the central theme of buddhism is that life is suffering, because life is comprised of desires and wants we conflate as needs, when we learn to let go of as much as possible, we are free. Grey jedi ideology isnt nuanced, its fucking retarded.
@memecliparchives22544 жыл бұрын
@@iflyte EVERYONE in life needs attachment. THERE'S NOTHING wrong with that. That's natural for so many people, even for someone like Obi Wan. And as for the Jedi in the prequels? It appeared as they have become full fo themselves due to the absence of the Sith for so long that little that they know that ONE OLD MAN was the Sith Lord they were looking for all along and he was hiding alone amongst 10,000 Jedi. Another case is with Ashoka. When she was framed for what Bariss Offee did and the Jedi Council pounced on the fact she was guilty and only Anakin defended her. When she was found innocent, The Jedi WERE ARROGANT TO APOLOGIZE TO HER and insisted that what she suffered is some so called trial. Don't ever try to make the Jedi look like saints the world only needs ever again. Because they fall into their shortcomings because they cannot accept that the light can blind someone as the dark can blind anyone.
@iflyte4 жыл бұрын
@@memecliparchives2254 Cool the melodrama kid, I could go the entirety of my life sanctifying the jedi and there wouldn't be a damn thing you could do to stop me lmao. Secondly, again applying buddhist philosophy to the force (cause it's the same damn concept) kind of debunks your whole "baww everyone needs attachment baww". Let's break down what the force is really about, it's not light/dark side, it's about spiritual vs physical. The essentially do not die, they transcend physical form and become one with the force because they have let go of any and all earthly desires. Conversely, the sith are ruled by their passion, and like any who place absolute importance on earthly desires, despite their impermanence, what they have come to consider their "needs" essentially twist and corrupt them. This is why what could arguably be considered to be the ultimate dark side ability is to cheat death/manipulate life. No matter what you and your little grey jedi fifis think, attachment is ultimately bad when you are sensitive to the force, no matter how you try to skew it with "trendy" moral relativism. As for everything else, oh yeah, it's jedi arrogance that prevented them from detecting Palpatine, not his clouding of the future or y'know...him being a master manipulator to the point of setting up crisis after crisis behind the scenes to ascend to the highest level of government. Oh and him being the most POWERFUL SITH LORD in existence. Yeah I'm sure that counts for nothing cause "hurr just an old maaaan". As for Ahsoka's trial, no they didn't "pounce" on it, the evidence was overwhelmingly stacked against her, and even then, the vote against her wasn't unanimous. Again, the dark side clouded the jedi's senses of precognition and clairvoyance, without that they're normal people who have to rely on logic. I mean ffs you act like they didn't immediately apologize (and then some, seriously wtf do you want? For them to literally kiss her ass?) after Anakin found the real culprit. People like you view the jedi credo as callous and unfeeling because you think you can have it both ways without consequence. You by existing are the coalescence of dark and light, spiritual and physical, as Yoda said, the dark side is seductive and easy because we, by living, are naturally slave to desire, even at our most base and primal level.

And now there are rumors that Disney might give Revan a Sex change and give the role to Brie Larson... Not really sure i want Revan to be cannon under Disney if they want to do that with him 😑

I've wrote a few fan fiction on myself as a jedi in the star wars universe. I've known deep lore about the Grey Jedi code and it sums up my personality, I lie in the middle of both not falling evil or good. I live in the moment and do what I must when I need to.

The thumbnail couldn’t have used more opposite characters if it tried. Ahsoka is so pure and kindhearted and Maul is a flaming seething ball of rage smothered in hatred.

Would kylo ren be sort of a grey Jedi then ? Because he is trying to finish what darth Vader started (bring balance to the force) but as he says to the darth Vader mask he keeps feeling the pull to the light so he can't embrace the light and the dark so that's why he kills Han Solo, to embrace the dark and gain the power of both the dark and the light. Maybe ????

Akenno 230 I think he wants to be a Sith and follow the Sith code but he is simply struggling with leaving the light.

when he says "finish what you started" he means killing all the Jedi.

Kylo isn't gray, he's just a Sith wannabe with a short fuse, daddy issues and an obsession with his grandfather.

If the Gray Jedi philosophy is as powerful as you claim, then surely their teachings would be far more widespread than they are. As far as Qui-Gon Jinn, do you have any evidence whatsoever that he used the Dark Side at all?
@CrusaderLogan6 жыл бұрын
His examples of using the dark side come from his morally ambiguous actions (the dice game).

Tell that to the dogmatic religions of our world that control so much that they shouldn’t, even when people are aware of it. Or the political parties that are so divisive. It’s very hard to occupy a gray area because it requires so much discipline and self reflection. It’s easy to gravitate towards a side of the spectrum and view that side as the one and only way to live and view life. It’s much harder to be open minded, adaptable, and realistic. War only makes this polarization worse, which is why you see such a large amount on either the light or the dark side (the Rebels or the Empire, etc.) and the very few who are able to maintain their moderate and grey viewpoint and lifestyle in the middle.

Havel the Rock He did as the Force willed. he never touched dark side abilities. He was NOT a grey Jedi. He was one of the only Jedi during the clone war era to actually follow the Jedi ways as they were meant to be followed. I can't stand when uninformed people call Quai-Gon a grey Jedi. It taints his name for one, and for 2, it shows a fundemantal lack of knowledge when it comes to just what a Jedi is supposed to be

They were wiped out very early on in EU lore by the ancient jedi. For scope they were out numbered at least 10 to 1. Also technically the je'di order was as well and were wiped out in a coup by light side users.

When you look post order 66, the numbers of sith-jedi-grey jedi became quite balanced actually. There were only two true sith (because the rule of two), 6/7 jedi (in canon), and quite a few grey jedi now because many former jedi lost faith in the order after seeing it's downfall and its flaws in hindsight. So, in the grand scheme of force users, being a grey jedi wasn't all that rare for a time.
