Japan has this huge Navy on 1.2% GDP spending.. if they spend 2.4% they could even double or triple it putting more resources into the Navy.... it has a better surface fleet than Russia France or Uk now, its pretty much the 3rd best Navy in the World now with Russia going backwards as it loses numbers from old ships and the UK and France getting smaller all the time Japan has teh same number of Destroyers and Frigates and the UK and France combined , only losing out on carrier force projection.. Japan also has more numbers and a slightly better air force then both the UK or France as well.. If japan spent 3-4% GDP on defence they would be a huge powerhouse they only spend 1.2% now they are very effiecient

Japan has the best value for money western military on Earth .. the size of there military for its budget is incredible... put it this way Japan military budget is only 49 USD billion, Australia is 38 billion now yet Japans Navy is 3.5 times stronger than Australia , there air force is 2.5 times stronger and there Army is 5 times stronger .... yet there budget is only 28% or so more than Australia , aus MILITARY is terrible for the amount of money it spends - Singapore has about the same fighter force in Air power with a budget 3.5 times smaller
