It’s worth remembering, however, that the media torment and fan backlash started long, long before Rashford’s form dropped (it hadn’t even been established). Mainoo hasn’t played much this season, and was a revelation at the end of last season. Who knows where he’ll go? What I do know is making statements about how fans will react and what will happen in two or four or six years is… unpredictable. There are many, many of us that would have said the same of Rashford five years ago.

If you tried to bring a Mainoo replacement in you'd pay 60m+ and also have to pay the new player a salary that is way higher than Mainoo is currently paid. So clearly, even from a business perspective, it is sensible to negotiate a higher salary for Kobbie and just try to keep it low enough that it doesn't become a future problem. The message that no player is beyond reproach is a good one as long as it is just a message. But the FA and UEFA need to look at the PSR situation urgently because the idea that clubs are going to be pressured to flog their own young players is disgusting.

It's a bit misleading about the derby game that we almost didn't continue that streak because Kobbie was the only academy player in the team. If you look at who was available for that game you'll see there was actually no other player available except academy graduates. So if Kobbie (or anyone else) wasn't available for that game, the manager would have had to get another academy player (or not get any player at all).

Mainoo: £20k/week NO fee. Plays week in and week out and is one of our best players and he is just a kid. Mount: £250/week +£50M fee and heavily injury prone. He played 761minutes for us over year and a bit.....not counting his high weekly wage that is £65.703/minute. Point is MUFC have bough poorly for years with very little to show for it. Focus on youth and home grown academy players. Although, Sir Jimbo does not give me great confidence.

The Rasmus and Mount transfer definitely deserves an investigation. It’s almost criminal. How a 35mil player could end up costing 70mil just after ETH’s agent became Rasmus’s agent. The guy came in injured, didnt pass medical exam. Mason Mount had the pelvic injury while he was at Chelsea, he didn’t play that season. He only had 1more year on his contract and no other team had interest to sign him. Somehow we paid 65mil asking price. The contract extension for Luke Shaw was definitely criminal. How his contract got extended on that wage is just beyond me.

People need to realise the reality of our financial situation. If we want to progress and get players in to fit Amorims system, some academy players may have to go. Their sales are “pure profit” and anyone we bring in can be amortised over multiple years. Selling Mainoo for £80 mil could allow us to bring in 4 player at £40mil each now and then spread the transfer fees and wages over 5 years. Yes, we pay more in the end but it allows us to fast forward our recruitment. Just like Chelsea have done.

@ I’m a United fan. Was freezing my nuts off the other week at Wolves away seeing us get beat. Been to 3 x CL finals mate and hundreds of games, so pipe down. It’s just the reality now because of the following reasons…. A ) our squad needs a major revamp B ) Amorims system requires players that have profiles we don’t have, wingbacks and 2 x 10s and a proper centre forward. C ) FFP rules are set in such a way that selling academy players goes down as pure profit on this years books - that is why Chelsea did it. As I explained, selling one could mean we bring in 4 players. D) beyond academy players, who has any value? Sell Hojland or Antony and we take major losses. E) If Amorim doesn’t get his players, how much time will he be given? F) prior managers / administrators have loaded us with deadwood G) Accept the fact that this is the reality and sometimes you have to sell one of your best players to fund a few more. It could be better in the long term for us.

@@gaffs82 when you have a squad full of dead beats you don't sell your best player as it makes the squad even weaker which causes the club to lose even more and stop investors wanting to invest in the Club full stop. You take the loss on the useless members of the squad as you remove the expense wages off the books which in turn allows you to invest in new players. The culture of the club has been the biggest problem with Rashford at the front of the queue walking around the pitch not putting any effort in. Finally it turns out Mainoo was never for sale just another nonsense story from the daily mail !!!!!
