Is this really the most UNDERRATED Tom Cruise movie? If not, we'd love to see which one is! Also, what do you think of AI today? Does it freak you out? Are we under attack? This movie explored that in a few ways! PS Sorry our pug Nala was caught snoring in this, we have been trying to be more mindful when we hear her snore lol. Enjoy the reaction and we will be back Monday @ 12! THANKS ETHAN FOR THE SUGGESTION!

I would say, yes. It is one of the most underrated Tom Cruise movies. I really enjoyed it when I watched it and had a tough time convincing people I knew to watch it. Granted, those people did have issues with Tom Cruise already. The wouldn't watch "Edge of Tomorrow" either.

You really need to don't give a damn about what rotten tomatoes scores say about any given movie. They are known for manipulating scores. It was already suspected before but it became certain when they live-tweaked numbers at the release of Captain Marvel, because the audience didn't had a uniform praise for the flick.

Tom Cruise’s association with Scientology was a a negative high with the press and social media around the time Oblivion came out. This really chilled people from going to it. I know tons of people who love and discus this film to this day. Edge of Tomorrow was hurt a bit less for the same reason (plus bad marketing). Two excellent SciFi films. Thanks for reacting.

I dont think it was scientology, Ghost Protocol came out like couple of years before that and like gave a new life to the series because it was so successful. I think it was just bad marketing, but Edge of Tomorrow did better, I think. Either way, both of these film are in my top 10 ever anyway.
@ImperialMJG
@ImperialMJG 6 ай бұрын
It wasnt Scientology. It was bad marketing and in the midst of when Superheroes was what everybody wanted to see (except me). Only period Scientology effected his movies was 2006 and 2007. It was pretty much over by 2008 as Valkyrie did pretty decent. But from 2010 and onwards that was forgotten. Only people complaining about Cruise and Scientology is those that have a grudge against him and Scientology. They are 0,0000001% but they make alot of noise. But if you look at comments about TC today on youtube videos out of 1000 comments maybe 10 mentions Scientology. Being the last real movie star which we will never see the likes of again makes some people of course find something to shit talk him cause thats what they do to people that are more successful then them.

This has a poor rating because most of the people who use movie rating sites like metacritic and rotten tomatoes have bad taste in movies. This movie was incredible. I loved seeing it when it first came out. Also, there is no real Jack anymore. The real one is dead. All the Jacks on the surface of the planet, as well as the ones that were in the Tet, as well as the Vickas, are all clones.

All the Jacks were clones of the original Jack. The original Jack was long gone. Same with Vicka. Morgan Freeman character took an interest in the one Jack clone because he saw a lot more humanity and curiosity in him as opposed to the countless other clones he had no doubt observed over more than 50 years and saw a chance. I suggest you give it another watch sometime. I think it will make more sense the second time around. They throw a lot at you in this movie and if you start thinking a certain way, you’ll miss the clues and little facts they drop to help you understand. It’s one of my favorite science fiction movies of all time.

One of the interesting questions about this film is asking if Victoria always knew what was going on but was so obsessed with Jack she was willing to live a lie and even die over and over in order to have him. Basically, she could be “Cypher” in Oblivion valuing living in a “clone matrix” with the man she otherwise would never have more than resisting alien slavery.

I don't think she was aware either.. But Since she had no love interest maybe her flashbacks weren't clear, memorable or desirable? Or maybe they were disturbing remember she (rightfully) panicked a little when they were captured. Remember Jack 49 is patrolling his actual home and stomping grounds every single day😢. That's why he kept getting memory triggers. Also, I don't think we should assume their cloning process is the same as ours. Maybe they can clone a Brain and recreate the chemical pattern? So imperfect memory results?
@Account-number-3587
@Account-number-3587 9 ай бұрын
to me, there is no ‘real’ jack. what’s left is just clones of him that became so perfect after the tet done that multiple times, the clones began to be aware of its past memories. after the 49 jack dies whats left is just 52 jack which eventually gain it’s own revelation and begin to seek julia, now already unbound from the tet and joined with the scav

This is one of my top sci-fi movies. It is crazy to get 54% out of 100%, are you kidding me? I can't even find another movie like Oblivion because the director made so few movies. That is why i prefer IMDB ratings over rotten tomatometer. half a million people rated this movie in IMDB, so that tells you just how many millions of people watched it. most people do not rate movies. Anything in IMDB that can hit 7.0 / 10 is very good (with a sufficient number of voters of course). And this is what Oblivion is in IMDB. i personally will give the movie a much higher because of the great story, concept, twist, how cool the tech is, how cool they sound, and how clean the visuals look together with CGI. like i said, i can't find another movie that has this type of dystopian setting and great visuals. I finally understood that they used front-projection instead of green screen, so that's why it looks so clean, good and blends with the actors. And the lighting is based on real footage which can cast shadows to bring out the effects and immerse the audience. This movie is done very well. I wish it was longer.

The point of this movie is not that they found the real Jack Harper. It's that the real you are your memories and what they made you to be. As tech 49 learned about what happened and remembered his past. He became the real Jack Harper. Just like there were hints of it in tech 52. And when tech 52 saw Julia, it awoke the real Jack in tech 52. Tech 49 new that 52 would be there after for Julia. So he chose to destroy the Tet, which was not just AI, but an alien AI that grew beyond its original creator's control, and had been going from planet to planet, sucking up their water for fuel in order to stay alive.
@DocMicrowave
@DocMicrowave Жыл бұрын
This is a great movie. Love the concept. The only thing that ever bothered me is the end. Technically there are at least 52 other Jack's out there who have the same memories that will be triggered upon seeing Julia. Likewise, there are least as many Jealous Vikka's out there. That could be very problematic for Julia and her daughter if/when they find her.
@alicequinn505
@alicequinn505 8 ай бұрын
I don't think that would be a problem. Vika's not vindictive, she's just in love, and Julia already has her Jack 52. With the scavs revealed to be people, it changes things too.
@DocMicrowave
@DocMicrowave 8 ай бұрын
@@alicequinn505 Maybe, but I still think it would be a problem for Julia with the, I'm going to go with thousands of, Jack's out there who still have deep unrealized feelings for Julia waiting to be activated. If Jack and Vikka 739 ever encountered Julia, there might be problems. maybe even leading to more Jack on Jack fights. As for Vika not being vindictive. She clearly wanted Julia out of the picture from the first time she saw her. And of course there was that scene where she ratted Jack out to the Tet on his return with Julia. Not even wanting to hear an explanation. Seemed just a little vindictive to me. (Watching them embrace remotely certainly didn't help her disposition.) She might had been in love, but she certainly seemed like she wanted to get back at Jack for hurting her. She always covered for him before Julia came into play.
@alicequinn505
@alicequinn505 7 ай бұрын
@@DocMicrowave Vika just found out her Jack cheated on her, and reacted emotionally. I think just like with anyone it's possible for Jacks to get over Julia, even for some of them to stay with Vika, but if not... still not seeing the problem
@DocMicrowave
@DocMicrowave 7 ай бұрын
@@alicequinn505 Well, you kinda spelled out. Over time as more and more Jack's and Vicka's discover Julia's existemce, you'd end up with a bunch of smitten Jack's, as well as a bunch of hurt and jealous Vicka's. It's in their programing.. They would be hard pressed to try and ignore the feelings. Not saying the Vicka's would go on a murder spree. But they would be all pretty messed up mental as they realize their world has crumbled. A funny scenario would be a bunch of Jack's duking it out on Julia's doorstep. Similar to Jack fighting his clone in the movie.

@l00d3r I get that, but there are ways to react while avoiding going down long what if's that take the reactor away from their viewing experience and in doing so catching more details that create opportunities for even deeper post film discussion. As someone who is subscribed to about 25 difference reaction channels? And have viewed far more. There are a lot of different ways to do reactions. The best ones either limit their engagement during the movie slightly so that they don't miss things and do a post discussion, or the ones who pause occasionally to have discussion based on key moments during the film. Pausing adds a little bit of extra work when it comes to the editing process. However, it allows you to milk every ounce of content out of each movie.
