As someone who attended the Chelsea-Wrexham match back in July & sat in the upper section, I can tell you it was uncomfortable sitting up there even with the match having a 7pm kickoff. That is the reason why I think the match had kind of a poor attendance when compared to other exhibition matches involving European clubs that Levi's has hosted in the past (even though both Chelsea & Wrexham are pretty popular clubs in the US) because people weren't willing to pay for seats that left them exposed to the sun especially the upper section ones. I find it kind of shocking that FIFA selected Levi's Stadium as a 2026 World Cup venue despite this problem because it will be a major issue for both players & fans especially given the fact that many World Cup matches will have midday kickoffs to cater to European TV audiences. Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto would have been a better choice to host World Cup matches (like it did in 1994) mainly because it is cooler & there are more shaded areas.
@tk80mufa54 ай бұрын
Good comment! 👍 1994 was also a bad World Cup due to games being played during daylight in the unforgiving summer heat. But FIFA don't care. Before 2022 and 2018 , it was hosted in two of the most crime ridden countries on earth in 2010 & 2014. Look up the future 2030 and 2034 hosting of the FIFA World Cup. What a mess !!! FIFA is the problem. They don't care about the players , never have, never will. Old cryptkeepers in suits. P.S. you're right , if anything , games should be held 9 p.m. local time , that's the official match start of UEFA Champions League games , due to Spanish heat , which makes playing before that unbearable.

Either end of the weather spectrum you benefit from one, and it’s insane the Bills are not doing it in their new stadium. It’s entirely possible to have the whole snow thing without the fans getting snowed on. However, it’s all for nothing as the NFL is the number one sport and league where you don’t have fans, you have customers. The owners care about profit, not the fans. See the announced upgrades at the Levi all geared toward the 1%, not the real fans.

His flight instructor shared that the FAA was already frustrated that the stadium was approved to be built in the potential flight path of the "secondary landing pattern directional geography" and the "emergency landing directional geography". Whether that's true or not I will not pretend to affirm. It's a third hand account which in journalism is speculation. It makes sense though. In the case they would have to build a second roof project it would come with painstaking cost regulator oversight more than usual and including expensive and possibly ugly FAA safety features such as permanent full time blinking red light spires and directional sign rooftop safety paint. They said ownership would have to foot the bill completely. They know that because the Bay Area's current economics and political views. It's crazy that this video popped up in my algorithm because we were talking about it maybe three to four weeks ago. One of our wealthy friends has paid for his pilot's license, training, and expenses these last three years so he can get a great job as both a commercial airline pilot and our friend's private jet pilot.

Brody, Brody, Brody, Brody, thank you thank you thank you. It just proves that never had any intentions in building that stadium in San Francisco and that height restriction is a bunch of BS, they could build a 200 feet additional awning on top of that stadium and it would still be within the legal limits. The ownership of San Francisco are the most people in football.

I read some where they built it that way to shade the 49ers bench and leave the visitors in the sun. Californians can complain, but the Cardinals played at ASU for 30 years, and in September and sometimes in early October it's 100° + at 3 in the afternoon.

Great analysis!!! Could a situation where it gets protected via a solution similar to Hamburg FCs stadium, same in Shalke 04s and the new Camp Nou in Barcelona happens where it’s a big old fabric thing that is retractable. With 4 nice scoreboards in the middle? Something low profile enough to protect all the field? Keep the thing open like SoFi, not an air conditioned done like Allegiant Stadium.

Just watched this video. My general thoughts and reactions. I bought SBLs, have seats. After experiencing Levi's, parking, sun & heat, I sell my tickets. Never go! I've been twice in 10 years. I never missed a game at Candlestick prior 20 years. 1) In the very early days of planning, we were told they were most likely modeling our new stadium after Arizona. 2) Has any nfl team other than the Niners built a non-dome stadium since 2011? 3) It's not just a few September games. My first game there was in November - we roasted. There's no substantial difference between September and October sun or temps in Santa Clara. So it's not just a couple of games. And it's not just the sun - there's no breeze. As you note, it's a stadium designed for a cool and windy site. 4) It's not just the east stands. My seats are in the middle deck in the north end zone. (Would be under the jumbotron in the images you showed). According to my neighboring seatholders who attend - they never get shade. Would a roof or sunshade help? I don't know. But I think the case for evaluating it, the scope of the issue, is bigger than suggested in your vid. And we shouldn't forget preseason, and the man who collapsed and died on a day it was 80° Don't want to deviate from roof topic too much... but the entire stadium is a disappointment. We got a stadium most fans refer to as "a really nice college stadium" but not an NFL stadium. It's also a horrible location, hemmed in by railroad tracks, the Canal, and Tasman: no opportunity to expand, add other attractions. They used terms like "near major freeways" when promoting... yeah, they're near... but there's no access directly from those major thoroughfares.... I don't know how parking is today. In 2014, when I got my tickets, I was assigned parking in an office park 0.8 miles away, no shuttles. What a joke! I don't know if they still do that. Overall, Levi's Stadium was a masterful real estate deal for the Yorks. Not a symbol of pride for the fans... we have the least impressive NFL stadium built in the last 15 years - maybe longer, depending on reactions to MetLife.

Interesting video Brodie. At Great America, the Drop Tower is 224 feet tall. That was approved by the FAA long, long ago and is about 1/2 mile closer to SJC than the stadium. So there is precedent for a taller structure in that area.

Stanford Football Stadium has the same problem. You can get cooked if you're on the east side of the stadium. Not to me the sun is in your eyes until sunset. PS - Candlestick Park location was always freezing at times, not to mention breezy.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This stadium will be replaced and the team will move back to San Francisco proper by 2035. Between the awful design, the ongoing issues with the city of Santa Clara, it’s going to happen. The final nail in the coffin will be hosting World Cup games there in the middle of June/July for the World Cup in 2025. Its going to be a PR nightmare!!

There is nowhere to go in or around SF. That's not going to happen without a new stadium which is also not going to happen. The 49ers absolutely could add a very shallow overhang. Just add a netting overtop. Problem solved. Doesn't have to be an actual structure

The original plans for this stadium was meant to be built in San Francisco and designs were not updated to fit the final location of Santa Clara. The best thing to do to avoid the heat is watch a night game. I think this stadium was built with bad timing in mind- the construction was built between old and modern and after this was built, all other NFL stadiums that followed stepped into the modern era. I think they rushed into this stadium knowing that they had put together a competitive team that had enough talent and coaching to make it back to the Superbowl but we all know after the stadium was built the wheels started turning drastically. They basically went from windy location at Candlestick Park to a hot and sun-baked location in Santa Clara. I wonder if there's always a rush for season ticket holders to try and grab sections away from the East side. Brodie Brazil, I just subscribed to your channel. I like your voice and approach and you described this issue quite well. Looking forward to watching more of your content.

How about the niners upgrading the vip amenities for the Super Bowl and World Cup while substantially raising the season ticket price for the long time fans? It’s not fair to the long time season ticket holders who are getting priced out to take care of the vip’s and not the common fan.

I’ve been to multiple games sitting up there on the eastern side. I have seen a fare-share of people who have been taken on a stretcher by the team’s paramedics due to the heat, alcohol, etc. It’s a dangerous situation, especially with those steep steps.

So the whole FAA thing is basically BS since there's another building that's 70 feet taller and closer to the runway, we know they could add 70 feet to the structure and not be a problem. It's also funny how the team uses language like "sunny" and "warm", not the truth which is uncomfortable and hot. Also the whole "impractical" excuse is just a way of saying it's not impossible, it's just impractical for the owner's wallet. Clever language by the team but if you read between the lines this is just saying ownership doesn't want to pay for a difficult project.

Why not look into new solar technologies? Let the roof pay for itself, being solar it is non-reflective, and could produce enough energy to help the stadium become net zero carbon. Isn't this the goal of the environmental movement?

Considering Levi sits in the direct flight path of an airport, there are height restrictions in regards to construction in the flight path. The current height of the stadium would exceed those restrictions if a roof was added on

Brodie - Love the content. Sound and reasonable, which shouldn't be a hard bar to clear but it really is these days for some content creators. As a season ticket holder in 120, right in the sun area, I can tell you it is very, very hot. But it is only that hot 1 or 2 days a year. In fact, one of the reasons the 49ers get an early season prime time game is because of the team's request to reduce the number of afternoon games within the first month of the season. For me, a nice trade off. I'd much prefer an early season prime time game (like tonight, MNF against the Jets). In fact they don't have a home afternoon game until Sept. 29 this year, Regardless, the stadium isn't the greatest, but as a fan who remembers the YEARS of talk about getting a new stadium, and how awful Candlestick was towards the end, I'm glad they have Levi's and will deal with the one hot day a year.

Isn't the issue that you have be 1000 ft above the highest point of a structure that has people in it? So they already probably have some sort of relief / exception for that - which the FAA probably isn't willing to adjust anymore, right?
@brodiebrazil4 ай бұрын
those minimum altitudes are more for VFR flight over populated/unpopulated areas, and don't include final approach corridors of airports

Makes sense - thanks for the explanation. Weird this is the only thing I was able to find about the FAA and building heights near airports “The FAA does not have the authority to limit building heights, and the decision to issue a building permit is up to the local government. Many local governments and states have laws that prohibit issuing building permits if the FAA determines a structure would pose a hazard to air navigation.”
