Could the EU military conquer the UK?

This video talks about a hypothetical situation where the Brexit talks go sour and EU somehow magically unites against the UK, waging war on it. Assuming no one else reacts, how would such a conflict go? Sure, the premise is silly, but the rest of the video isn't. Just how strong EU is, militarily? What could the UK do to defend itself? And UK is considering that they won the war by themselve, I lived in UK before and they are proud to be the winner, ignoring the fact that Russia and US do the most of the job and soldiers of the Empire dies a lot for them. Though you really want to think that in a war the French would use nukes on the UK? A government that would use nukes so close to themselves is not a government that you want in control. Not only would it be a quicker case of mutually assured destruction given the small distance but when the Atlantic winds blow from the west like they often do, who is going to get the majority if the fallout? BY no allies do you mean no material support? Cause if BAE can get stuff, time will be of the essence and EU wont have a year. 2 things not accounted for. Bink didnt even talk about the naval war. Britain would have no trouble destroying nearby French ports with with stand off weapons. Its one thing to fight the EU navy in open ocean, but its another thing entirely in the channel or off the Irish coast. The royal navy air defense from ports has not been considered. Any landings would be under incredible peril. Scandinavia are good sub hunters, but wont be able to operate anywhere near them, and UK subs could easily terrorize any crossing attempts. 2. During the initial phase Eu has 2 choices, 1 attack the mainland before UK can stronk up its industry and shelter the weapons, or try to prevent common wealth reinforcements from arriving. In terms of navy, the numbers are deceiving. Unlike most of Europe, The UK has 90 years of in tandem war games with the USA in preparation for war with Warsaw pact. This includes ABM search and track that can be used to see all of Europe. Then there is the Mediterranean and the UK holdings there. While not much of a navy is there, its purpose built. This all adds up to time. The USA began its pacific campaign with with a 3 to 1 disadvantage in navy too. Granted, we had luck on our side. But the Brits are lucky at sea too. If it cant be done in under a year, it would be suicidal to continue past that.

In my opinion Eire is a non starter. We would not invade because it would not look good. The RAF would take on any Eu forces going there along with the Navy and the EU taking casualties would soon back off. The biggest joke is if the EU talks the French into taking one for the team,not a chance. As for being overwhelmed by sheer numbers in the air, well the Germans thought that a few decades ago. And ill throw this out there, what if the US, Canada, and UK formed our own entity like the EU? We could expand the US and call it United States of Briton. But US constitution stays in affect, we just make some amendments to allow this uniting. I love London more than DC but DC is better suited as a capitol. I would like to see the Union Jack as a flag, maybe put some stars in it for each state. Basically take the best of both countries. The Royal family would still stay as the royal family of the State of UK. And of course the currency would be USD, and the UK military would be the national guard of UK, but the Navy would be absorbed into the US Navy.

America is allied with all the EU countries as well. Moreover, the EU is one Americas biggest and most important trading partner. Doubt America would want to get involved, especially if it meant that it would have to either garrison to the UK, or garrison the entirety of the EU. It'd be Afghanistan on steroids either way. As for Russia, neither the US nor the UK would seek Russian assistance. They wouldn't have too, Russia would join in on its own accord, which in itself would be a reason for the US to either shut the conflict down, or side with the EU.

Not for the first time, the narrator in these videos mentions 'Royal Army Soldiers' when speaking about the land force element of the UK's armed services. There is no such thing and hasn't been for over 350 years. It's called the British Army for a reason - because it fought against the Crown during the English Civil War. Yes there are such things as the Royal Navy (the senior service) and the Royal Air Force. But not a Royal Army. Even the Guards Regiments that protect the Queen's official residences are formed from the British Army.

Well. Its less about Winning. And more about the UK being able to hold out on their Island. Winning would Require the UK to create an Invasion Force themselves. Which is unlikely going to be Successful. Even France or Germany alone would likely not lose a War against the UK. But neither of them could possibly Win either. because neither Side is able to really get enough Power to Bear over the Sea to Defeat the other. The EU together however would be able to actually get an Invasion of the UK on the Road. Which is an somewhat Impressive Feat. Because the UK as Island is actually a rather effective Fortress. You can Laugh. But the main Reason for the EU to be able to Succeed is likely its close Proximity. I am absolutely not sure that the USA for example would be able to Invade the UK. That would be off the table pretty quick, as your own government would have to fight on 2 fronts, internal front of army mutiny due to more educated and younger people having sympathy towards the EU and fighting and external force. British forces would be overwhelmed by Irish guerilla tactics, as it would take out many senior officers and general staff that Britain would not be able to defend against it if this scenario was played out. So the uk will know where the french are based, giving them a massive advantage if firing first at the french site's (near neighbours and so little warning). Rest of euro military are pretty small in number and they rely on NATO to protect them. Nato is mostly led by the USA and British military supporting them. Also a lot of countries would possibly stay neutral and not want to get involved in such a conflict. A non nuclear country does not pick a fight with a nuke country....its suicide. So a conflict would be mainly confined to UK v France. The UK would not really want to get involved in a land war on european soil again and so it would be a defensive war on the UK side. If the UK mainland attacked it would bring in commonwealth countries and the response of the USA with regards to its bases in britain/europe would be interesting. Unlike in europe in WW2 when the population quickly capitulated as the govt's fell and resistance was minimal (and exaggerated to make countries ego's feel better after military humiliation). However the UK people are different in attitude and a invasion would be resisted to the bitter end....at any cost. Its doubtful the EU has enough military trained soldiers to conquer the UK (taking into consideration a lot of countries would not get involved) and some countries may even switch sides....Scandinavian, Malta, Crete, Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Poland. Plus Spanish people are not keen on the french......so despite Gibraltar.......they may prefer keeping on good terms with the Brits living in their country. Then you have the USA.........if push comes to shove......they will always side with the Brits. They see the UK as a massive aircraft carrier and if you hold the UK....you can conquer europe. The english speaking world would not stand by and watch its motherland fall....to the french.

Yeah you would not want to be a soldier on Uk streets as shown by the Uk during the troubles in Northern Ireland. Imagine what happened there but now you have the entire country’s people against you. With the many Narrow lanes which go around like a maze with tall Hedges places like the SouthWest would quickly turn into a gorilla war. Large armoured vehicles wouldn’t be able to make it down lanes which would turn into killing zones. Angry farmers with shotguns plus small groups like the Cornish Liberation Front would grab all there weapons and potentially get flooded with angry people wishing to join. Issue is even if soldiers took all the weapons away somehow they can’t open fire on a bunch of angry protesters with pitchforks unless they wish to break the Geneva Convention. This unrest would last for decades and the longer it goes on the more equipped they’ll become. No question the British have a great and elite military, but most the EU countries have amazing and very elite military. Take for example Denmark. They have a small army, but some of the best troops in the world. Combined with other elite EU military I don't see Britain having much of a chance in the long run.
