The Oakland A's are outspending the Red Sox in free agency. This team continues to pee on your leg and tell you it's raining, and you guys go out to buy umbrellas. So to address the BP that you haven't addressed yet, is to bring back the guy you didn't want to extend. Laughable. Since 2020, they have signed two players to contracts that were more than 2 years in length. They don't care anymore and you guys keep giving them your money.
@traci635Күн бұрын
No they are not! And for reference the A's HAVE to spend or the powers that be in MLB will stop John Fisher 's revenge sharing..... Red Sox have signed Buehler, Sandoval, Wilson and Chapman. Traded for Crochet, Narvaez and Sabol.....so they are improving the team....do you want them to spend just to spend regardless of fit?
@thrawn5kКүн бұрын
@@traci635 Trading is not spending. And the names you listed? Ok, Buehler, 21+ million, Aroldis Chapman 10+ million, Sandoval (who you laughable mention) is 18+ million, ANNND Wilson is making a cool 2.25 million. Hm... 21+10+18+2=51 million. The A's signed Severino for 67+ million, and that isn't even bringing up anyone else they signed such as Brent Rooker making 60 million up to 90. Math I guess is hard. Also, I like the ... "HAVE to spend or" . You probably think the world is flat, because the Red Sox told you it was. You believe everything else they say.
@Frank-u5c1gКүн бұрын
Who do they need to sign? Bregman? He's a bust waiting to happen. .260s batting average with 20 hrs? Not worth a long term deal. Arenado? Where is he going to play? I'm fine with the Red Sox not giving bad contracts to over the hill player the last dew years. (Except Giolito, P U bad signing) They have plenty of rookies that I'd rather give a shot to than these b and c level players.

@@Frank-u5c1g They already missed the boat! That's the POINT! They signed nobody, and this late in to FA is slim pickings. Something to take into consideration: Pivetta gave up the most home runs in the mlb against the breaking ball,abd did it by a wide margin. Right now we already have the last 2 league leaders in homers given up in Kutter and Giolito,Buehler who was hit really hard and even Bello was hit hard when he was getting behind in the count,even in the second half.I think Breslow took a huge gamble in offering Nick that QO. Guy is a beast in that relief rile though. We need better situational pitching and hitting.

I've always loved Nick because he's a mad man with great stuff. I think he's the kind of mad man who thrives on high leverage situations, too, so I would be thrilled to see him stay in a Red Sox uniform. I know he famously wants to be a starter, but he honestly looks like he gets bored and distracted when he doesn't have a specific reason to get fired up. He's an energy guy, maybe not the discipline guy it takes to be a starter. I'd love to see him float between the pen and spot starts here and there; I bet he'd have some fantastic starts in the post season when other guys are getting tired.

Pivetta as bullpen arm has a lot of decent qualities. As you pointed out his numbers as a reliever are very good. The other side of signing him is that should one of the starters go down it gives you an arm in place to go to. No to signing Pivetta. He was miserable (personality wise) at being a reliever and wants to be a starter and I'd rather keep Crawford as your 6th man. Even if traded you have other younger starters who could step in and are younger and cheaper and probably would be just as successful. If you are thinking of bringing in someone, I'd rather take a chance on Scherzer. Besides sooner or later teams are going to lose their starters in Spring Training and need to sign a starter and you can get that draft pick. I think staying away from him is more beneficial to the Sox than a positive. Oh and a nice little nugget that was on Weei this morning, The Oakland A's of all teams have spent more money this year in FA than the Boston RedSox. Gotta love that.

If he's going to be prideful and have that attitude about going to the bullpen, then I'm good on him. There's nothing worse than a guy who lacks self awareness. He wasn't that great last year and it's clear the rest of the league feels the same.

There are those who would disagree with bringing NIck back but I always have felt he has decent value. You can never have enough pitching and I would feel fine with him coming back. I think its a good idea. You can find a fit for him in the pen . I would not be surprised to see him come back and I hope that he does. I am pretty surprised no team has signed him. I have seen worse pitchers get big contracts in the past. Scherzer is too injury prone my friend. Signing him is probably asking for more of the same. He has not been able to stay healthy. David Robertson would be interesting. He's about 40 years old but he is a good athlete and is still a good pitcher. Thank you Corbin. Great video as always. Joe

Pivetta is kicking himself for not accepting the QO. He may have to wait until the draft to be picked up by another team. The issue of Pivetta in the bullpen (beyond wanting to be a starter) is the that the biggest question mark is at closer and I do not hear anyone saying Pivetta can close. If he does go to the bullpen then either Winckowski or Criswell gets moved. The idea of getting him as a back of rotation piece only works if the plan is to flip Crawford for a right hand bat.
