Loni's main concern was she has to be "hip" which I get but trust when I say all those trends and statuses aren't going anywhere. Those posts will always be there when you get back to it. As someone who grew up with social media, having a first social account at 10, I think that you become attached to it on a more personal level. I think a lot of people are afraid or maybe embarrassed to admit that. There is nothing wrong with being connected to being "connected" on media platforms. Tons of Gen-Z have used it during their developmental stages of life which makes it a little more challenging to distance yourself from it. However, it is possible to take a break from socials, you just have to be willing to. When I took my first actual break from social, it was during quarantine. When I say that the first week rough, but luckily I adjusted and I agree with everything Selena mentioned. I was seeing the most casual things in a whole new light. Such as, having conversations with friends and walking my dog. Those little things allowed me to be more aware of what's in front of me rather than what's happening else where, which was a huge stress reliever. Now this is only my experience and I am a person who is easily influenced, so the break for me was necessary. Now I do breaks on a consistent basis. It's just about balance. You can say you don't need a break but trust me you wont know you needed one till you actually take one.

@eresiuche57762 жыл бұрын
I agree with Loni, but sometimes taking a break is not just because of trolls. For me I'm no kind of celebrity, and I don't have trolls and I keep my IG "intimate", but I took a break from IG just to escape pressure and expectations to keep up. I found I was inwardly comparing myself with people's achievements. Thinking - she did this in her career, so I'm behind. He did this in his business so I'm behind. They did that with fitness goals, so I'm behind, etc. Even though, I know everybody's journey is different and I'm happy for each and everyone of them, social media sometimes makes me question myself. So the breaks definitely help me to re-center.
@ayannamarie1232 жыл бұрын
This comment articulates exactly how I feel! Not having to be up to date on pop culture and being free from the comparison is so real and before people come saying no-one is forcing you to compare your life to others its really unconscious and before long you realize little things have crept in. Breaks and time away does exactly that, re-centers me
@cerrismatic2 жыл бұрын
I definitely like internet breaks. I've never cared about trolls, in fact, when I was younger, I used to take pleaser in trolling trolls. I currently don't use it to make money, but even when I do, like Jeannie said, timed posts. The reason I like taking breaks is because I like to hear my own thoughts. Even anyone reading this, you've now got my thought process in your head, my thoughts and ideas. At the time I'm posting this there are 65 other comments. That's a lot of people's thoughts and perceptions about things. Sometimes people can get caught up looking at the wrong things, and it's hard to sometimes separate that when our phones or devices are in our faces all day. You're like the 5 people you spend the most time with, and sometimes that's not always in person, but who's thoughts you're consuming the most, and those dramatic moments that we might not participate in in real life, it's easy to watch online. It's easy to get consumed by other people's mess, and taking a break is a good time to detach and reconnect to yourself, separate from everyone else.
@sammierose11502 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. I feel like Loni took this the wrong way. Selena didn’t say everyone else had to do what she was doing, (she actually didn’t mention anyone else in her statement. I think social media effects people in different ways. There are some celebrities that can be on it and not be fazed by the things that they see and then there are other celebrities that are constantly on the blogs bc they respond to everything a troll says. Someone that comes to mind is Cardi B who seems like the negativity eats at her and who really might benefit from logging off and taking a nice long break just like Selena did. I don't know if that would hurt her financially if she did it like the ladies in the video were saying for themselves but it really might be something to consider.

@TiffanyRayneOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Actually it's not unrealistic to not use the internet completely. For as much as there are millions of people on the internet/social media there's also millions who are not. There still is a whole real world out there, and people are living in it, not their devices or computers. And it doesn't capture everything. With that being said, using the internet is not a necessity, it a choice/activity. For some people it's an addiction, for others they may use it for employment or other resources, and there are others who don't use it at all and are just fine. So it's totally plausible.

I liked that Jeannie added in that people said since she shared her pregnancy journey that she now owes the public a photo of Monaco. Too bad it was cut off at the end.

If I had 311 million ppl chiming in on everything that I do… yeah, I would need to take time off. I had to delete Twitter back in 2011 because I had a few thousand followers, which caused me to overshare and obsess over it. 🤷🏽♀️ Some ppl are built for it. I’m not. 🤣🤣 Self awareness is important.

Loved this convo, tho I wish they would’ve also spoken about social media from the average person’s perspective. I know as a broke college student myself (lol) seeing all these beautiful models on Instagram (no hate to them at all) traveling to Hawaii and getting paid thousands to post a picture on the beach can really mess with my head

I just deleted the Twitter account that was causing me a lot of stress. And made another account for fun. I don’t use my Facebook, don’t upload my photos to IG. I just use them to browse funny and cute media. If I don’t want to talk to a guy/someone anymore, I usually say bye or block. So, the internet is generally a good experience for me, plus I live on KZbin, the internet provides me endless entertainment lol. But I know how to put the phone away when I’m out or around someone too

Been off social media since 2016 (except YT I guess) but I like myself, and I don’t need Social media telling me i should be somebody else so I deleted it. My family thinks I’m weird cause I don’t need people knowing where Im at or what I’m doing 24/7. Love that loni speech at the end though don’t let the trolls win!

I think they mean her team/management took over her accounts and post for her. It is totally possible (more than possible actually) to quit the internet and or live without it😂. There's plenty of people who aren't on it or don't use social media and they are just fine. Because there's still a real world that exist out there and people live in it. There's times my internet service was down for 3 days and sometimes a week when technology would mess up to say the least. I wasn't tripping because I still had/have everything I needed. I was fine. I think the problem is, especially these days, people live vicariously thru a digital lens. And being a real flesh and blood human isn't real to some anymore.

I'm so sad that this show is ending. I'm from germany but I watch Clips of the show at youtube. I love the ladys and I feel like I know them. I used to watch Loni on chelsea lately.. Jeanny is my favorite. I was also a troublemaker as I was younger and have also found peace in faith and motherhood.

I personally haven't had social media since MySpace. I have a linked in for business, but other than YT I don't have social media. It's blissful. I think all the anxiety that people have would go away if they got off social media. For me I'm about quality of friends. I like to reach out to my friends to see what's going on. I don't want to have to look on a post to see what's going on. To me that's so generic. Using the internet for my banking and buying needs is a totally different thing. I mean sometimes it saves my LIFE!

the “internet” or “social media” for people who use social media and or the internet to pay bills , or become educated grow their brands etc. a 4yr period of no internet could make life harder for people trying to keep up and participate in the new world and economy. not to mention what ever the metaverse.

Loni is right. If you go off social media sometimes you are forgotten. You become a "has-been" or irrelevant. Another reason is that many experience FOMO. Selena Gomez has a strong, loyal, and large fanbase. She has the luxury to continue making money without being tied to her phone. I don't think Selena Gomez means Internet though... she must mean social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Tiktok, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. Those can definitely be toxic and not good for our mental health. Remember when Michelle Phan went off the internet during her peak? When she returned it wasn't the same anymore. You can lose your momentum while on the rise. KZbin is the only social media platform I use on a regular basis.

I think they missed a very important point which is comparing yourself to other people on social media. For most of us, trolls aren't the problem since we're not celebs. Social media can make you feel like everyone is doing something better than you and it can be quite depressing. So taking breaks is a great idea
@jyn882 жыл бұрын
Social media has been known to cause depression. I remember reading about that many years ago and thought that was silly. Now that I'm older I understand what they mean.

This is so true and this is why I'm not on my accounts. Instagram and Facebook made me feel horrible when I looked at the accomplishments of some of my peers or other people's relationships, bc my relationship at the time was horrible. I got off, started to focus on GOD and myself, haven’t looked back since.
