This is what you should do. 1. No shoes in the house. 2. Leave carpets for bedrooms only 3. Vacuum carpets weekly 4. Mop or vacuum tiles or floorboards as much as possible or as soon as you notuce dust. Carpets act like a filter but hard floors don't and so kicked up dust from hard floors linger in the air and enter your lungs. 5. Steam clean carpets, mats, and area rugs once every 6-12 months. 6. Try and wipe your pets feet and try to keep them clean before letting them in.

Did you watch the video? It says to be safe, steam clean carpets every month! I’m happy to see carpet is just beginning to go out of style because it is not healthy. As a former carpet cleaner this is the best answer! You have to hold the water in a sterile holding tank otherwise this experiment is useless. You could pour clean water into a holding tank and come up with positive test. Also the carpet cleaners wand and hoses have to be new and never used. 🤕Not to say they don't have bacteria in their carpet but the test is totally flawed.

Leaving shoes outside allows germ ridden roaches & other bugs and insects to crawl inside of them! If you don't have a mud room, just place an adequate size shoe rack by the door to hold the shoes! Keep the area where you step inside with your shoes mopped or vacuumed!

It’s funny that they show a cheap Bissell vacuum while saying ” get a high quality, hepa vacuum.” A quality vacuum is not what you can buy at your local department store, go to a vacuum store! Most vacuum stores carry these three main quality brands: Miele, Sebo, and Riccar!
@seana806
@seana806 4 ай бұрын
You need a high airflow vacuum like a Sanitaire or Kirby, maybe a old school Hoover. Here’s one misconception people have about vacuum cleaners, suction doesn’t pick up the dirt, airflow and agitation does. Suction does pick up dirt to a degree but more so maintains airflow. Suction aka vacuum is a negative pressure, not a movement. You got to move the air in order to pick up the dirt.

@@seana806 I agree with the Kirby or Sanitaire, but the average audience of Inside Edition would not know what to do with either of these. They will probably end up picking something to break the fan, then it will be the case that “Kirby makes a bad vacuum .” The typical is ignorant to the fact that you must watch what you pick up, so the bypass system is much safer. I have access to both direct air and bypass, I would choose direct air if given a choice.

They only does the vacuum at the HEPA filter. it also has to be a complete sealed system because if it’s not sealed the filter, doesn’t do anything

This is why many people have asthma and serious allergies, but no doctor will ever tell you its your environment. For years as a kid i would get bad asthma attacks, and turns out it was the carpet and the home i was living in. Ince i moved out the attacks stopped. No doctor ever told me get a air purifier or is there mold, etc. Just her take this pill or take this inhaler !

Even with all the good habits, regular vacuuming, deep hot cleaning, and no shoes in the house, my asthma and allergies were horrible and unbearable. I dont even have any pets. We have multiple air purifiers. It didnt get better until we got the carpet removed.

Carpet is disgusting. I have not lived in a home that had it since I was a child, and I never will again. It is a dirt and germ trap under your feet.

I keep shoes off inside the house other than when I'm about to leave not because of this, but to keep things more clean so I don;t have to clean it as often in a week. The thing they don't tell you in this report is you will find these bacteria in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, etc.... even on your toothbrush. Doesn't really matter how clean you keep the place, its everywhere including your yard. Good grief inside edition, way to not have a control and not tell the whole story.

Not everyone can afford hardwood flooring or have homes newer than 2000s. Not to mention carpet cleaning not just pickup dirt from carpets but also the subfloor, which is nasty on its own.
