This is what you should do. 1. No shoes in the house. 2. Leave carpets for bedrooms only 3. Vacuum carpets weekly 4. Mop or vacuum tiles or floorboards as much as possible or as soon as you notuce dust. Carpets act like a filter but hard floors don't and so kicked up dust from hard floors linger in the air and enter your lungs. 5. Steam clean carpets, mats, and area rugs once every 6-12 months. 6. Try and wipe your pets feet and try to keep them clean before letting them in.

Did you watch the video? It says to be safe, steam clean carpets every month! I’m happy to see carpet is just beginning to go out of style because it is not healthy. Keeping healthy carpets is very expensive and time consuming. The really sad part is how carpeting became popular in shops, doctors offices, and churches 😢

As a former carpet cleaner this is the best answer! You have to hold the water in a sterile holding tank otherwise this experiment is useless. You could pour clean water into a holding tank and come up with positive test. Also the carpet cleaners wand and hoses have to be new and never used. 🤕Not to say they don't have bacteria in their carpet but the test is totally flawed.

This dude. I do it for a living and can say no one empties, rinses, scrubs and bleaches every time. Maybe once every 3 to 6 months depending. I often empty the tank and occasionally blast water through it to rinse. That's it. Lol we clean up EVERYTHING with it.

This is a no brainer. OBVIOUSLY carpets can make people sick. We used to have carpet throughout most of the house but thankfully got rid of ALL of it. 😊👏🏻 I'm one of those people who absolutely HATES carpets and would absolutely, flat-out refuse to live on it again. Just nope! 🙅♀️ Give me hardwood flooring or linoleum any day over carpet.

Tips from vacuum vet here. Keep your shoes outside. Shampoo 2 to 4 times a year. More if you have pets. Vacuum 2 times a week. Have a spot cleaner to remove stains before they set. Use a vacuum with a hepa sealed filter system.

Leaving shoes outside allows germ ridden roaches & other bugs and insects to crawl inside of them! If you don't have a mud room, just place an adequate size shoe rack by the door to hold the shoes! Keep the area where you step inside with your shoes mopped or vacuumed!

@@Warp2090 regular vacuums do nothing to throughly disinfect a floor though 🤦♂️. All they do is pick up dirt. They do nothing to disinfect bacteria tracked from the bathroom or especially public places. You can mitigate this issue by leaving shoes at the door but its difficult for families with lots of kids

@@Impishsheep better as long as it’s a disinfect shampoo and not regular shampoo plus it’s a lot of work to be shampooing and extracting the carpet even once of a month let alone weekly or biweekly. You can probably disinfect and mop a hard wood floor in a single room in 5 min or less whereas if it were carpet it would probably take 30min to an hour to properly do it plus the way longer drying time

It’s funny that they show a cheap Bissell vacuum while saying ” get a high quality, hepa vacuum.” A quality vacuum is not what you can buy at your local department store, go to a vacuum store! Most vacuum stores carry these three main quality brands: Miele, Sebo, and Riccar!

You need a high airflow vacuum like a Sanitaire or Kirby, maybe a old school Hoover. Here’s one misconception people have about vacuum cleaners, suction doesn’t pick up the dirt, airflow and agitation does. Suction does pick up dirt to a degree but more so maintains airflow. Suction aka vacuum is a negative pressure, not a movement. You got to move the air in order to pick up the dirt.

They will probably end up picking something to break the fan, then it will be the case that “Kirby makes a bad vacuum .” The typical is ignorant to the fact that you must watch what you pick up, so the bypass system is much safer. I have access to both direct air and bypass, I would choose direct air if given a choice.

You could probably do that same test on any hardwood or laminate floor and find similar kinds of results. The big thing is they don't say in what quantity etc. Yes carpets will hold more, but it feels like there might be a bit of fear mongering. After all I bet if they reran the steam cleaner within even half an hour of cleaning it they would find similar results.

Bought engineered hardwood flooring for my bedroom and gonna install it within the next two weeks. Every time I vacuum there is a bunch of fine dust in the vacuum canister. For years as a kid i would get bad asthma attacks, and turns out it was the carpet and the home i was living in. Ince i moved out the attacks stopped. Carpet is disgusting. I have not lived in a home that had it since I was a child, and I never will again. It is a dirt and germ trap under your feet.

My house has carpet almost everywhere.. Theres two stories to my house (upstairs and a furnished basement)..in the hall,bedrooms,laundry room,living room upstairs is carpet (half carpet in the bathroom) and downstairs (the stair well is also carpeted) theres carpet in the bedrooms and the living room

I keep shoes off inside the house other than when I'm about to leave not because of this, but to keep things more clean so I don;t have to clean it as often in a week. The thing they don't tell you in this report is you will find these bacteria in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, etc.... even on your toothbrush. Doesn't really matter how clean you keep the place, its everywhere including your yard. Good grief inside edition, way to not have a control and not tell the whole story.

Not everyone can afford hardwood flooring or have homes newer than 2000s. Not to mention carpet cleaning not just pickup dirt from carpets but also the subfloor, which is nasty on its own.

I thought all floors were hardwood but covered with carpet? Am I wrong?
