The 'whole was always greater than the sum of the parts' when Charles and Don and Bernie and Sid got into some contentious discussions, and heated sparring along with hilarious laughter, while much of America woke up to IMUS in the MORNING. And Wyatt and Deirdre were never far from Don's side, either. I remember the business, Auto Body Express, that Don Imus once helped get started (and I believe it never made a profit): a business that was apparently just to help out his younger brother, Fred, and when they would talk on the telephone, Don would always (ALWAYS) end the call by saying, "I Love You" to his brother, a brother that life had not been as kind to as it had to Don. Anyway, for those of you who understand psychology and projection: it's quite illuminating to read many of the harsh comments being made about Don Imus right after his death, comments that reveal the suffering and the misery behind some of the harshness and invective being spewed right at the moment of the man's death. These comments tell us more about the person who is making them rather than what they tell us about Don Imus. Almost all of Don Imus' pranks and his so-called controversial remarks are quite tame by today's standards, and even moderate when contrasted with our nation's leader's Twitter Account, and those who lean far left will no doubt criticize Imus for being an Alt-Right Conservative; while those who lean more to the right shall, on the other hand, accuse Imus of being a "Snowflake" Liberal. And yet meanwhile, Don Imus was just a guy who loved music, and radio, and a guy who really loved his brother. - j q t - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYDHZKeXo5pseKc

John Quill Taylor Very , very well said. I remember the summer of 72 when he hit the air waves in greater New York . Ground breaking !!! At times ,over the years, I thought he went a bit too far , but he was true to himself. He was an icon , no doubt. In many of the descriptions , in eulogizing him , I heard, was simply " he was a complex man " . " I don't care if it rains or freezes long as I got my plastic Jesus ridin on the dashboard of my car ......OH YEAH " !!! He WILL be remembered !!! Thank you .

Just read your words here, scrolling down the page. You're correct that these hateful comments from strangers are more about themselves because they didn't know Don. He called me to sign-paint his ranch for a dozen years. I met Fred about a year before Don when I made the signage for Auto Body Express. Sometimes Don would phone me up on a winter's day, bored as hell sitting in Connecticut on a Saturday, and we'd banter back and forth about current events and nonsense. My comment is at the top of the "most recent" list here.
@rikoshayrabbit6 ай бұрын
Fred hired me to paint the signs for Auto Body Express in Santa Fe. Then about a year later Don & Deirdre bought a 2,500 acre ranch 40 miles east of here and that became their summer refuge for cancer-remission kids. I hand-lettered the whole place, Western style, and I painted very decorative stuff for Don for about 12 years. His brain was like a tape recorder and he would repeat every funny comment we shared back and forth. We had a lot of laughs. I didn't listen to him daily but I'd tune in just after we'd been together and sure enough Don would be talking about me for the next few days. He loved to tease, shock and scare people but I never blinked, I always fired back with something daring and twisted and that would become material to help fill those four hours of air time 5 days a week. Don was the best customer I ever had, and he was a cool dude to know.

There was a time in this nation's history when people appreciated wit and barbed humor..In earlier times, Groucho Marx was a prime example of that. Imus brought his combined love of music, barbed wit and take no prisoners humor to the airwaves during a time when those things were not only allowed, but rewarded. Those days are, sadly, over. But there was, indeed, a time...and during that time, Imus was THE I-Man. RIP to the Last DJ.
