You see, the items you can get from a case (that I think you get at the end of a game for getting gud) that you open for a $1.50 Key could potentially give you weapon skins that sell on the steam marketplace for anything ranging from $0.20 to like = or >$250 (The highest item I've seen from videos is a $250 knife skin) You would feel like shit if you bought a $250 skin then opened a case from a $1.50~ key and got something of a value like that, so valve is essentially testing you by asking you if you would rather fork out hundreds of $1.50~ key purchases for potentially amazing (and also profitable if you sell the skins) skins or straight up pay another person $250 for a potentially devastating feeling if you get anything of equal value within enough of a time period to make you feel shitty for buying it.

If you look at the list of weapons as he's opening the cases, the blue is lowest and the yellow is the highest. Each drop can be any of a number of qualities from battle scarred to factory new which just determines the wear on the skin and there's a chance the skin will be stat trak which means there's a counter on the side that counts every kill you get.

There is: grey for consumer grade, the least valuable, and you can pretty much get them for 3 cents, blue, which is mil spec, the most common, most of it is worth only 5 cents to 10 dollars for a stattrack, then there is dark purple for restricted, light purple for classified, and red for covert, knives are always covert because you basically have a 1% chance of finding them per crate, or even lower. If I had to make an assumption: Blue 70%, Dark Purple 10%, Light Purple 5%, Red 4%, Knife (Because they are yellow in the crates despite being red/covert out of the crate) 1%.

yes, but most drops are consumer grade (grey) and if you are lucky, mil spec (blue). Only once have I seen anyone get something higher tier, and it was my friend who got a mac 10 dark purple (right above blue). Honestly, I suggest putting $20 on your account and just getting cheap skins you like. Then after about 1 year, you will have accumulated enough random drops that you can sell over the market place and buy some keys for decent drops. Don't think all case openings are like Aleks' here, he is very unlucky.
