What difference does it make when most people have been wearing cheap cloth and disposable mask for 2 years. They probably still work better than what they have been using.
@raystanczak42772 жыл бұрын
The difference is in how much protection each type of face covering offers, and for how long. A bandana offers a few minutes of protection from exposure, a blue mask with just ear loops, generally about 20 minutes, and a properly fitted NK-95 mask will protect you for around 24 hours. So there’s a huge difference. Get a proper mask, use it when necessary, and relax. But the most important step is to get fully vaccinated. This Christmas, myself and five other family members (one was 2 years old, two of us are over 70, and we’re all fully vaccinated except for the baby.) They all caught covid, while I didn’t. They all recovered after 2 or 3 days of pretty mild symptoms-no hospital, or serious illness. With a virus this contagious, a mask just isn’t going to be enough to prevent catching it over the long term. Gotta get vaccinated.

@raystanczak42772 жыл бұрын
@@shhhnowlisten7461 First, I agree that only surgical masks will prevent passage of virus in droplets. (I believe that’s due to an electrostatic layer which attracts water droplets.) The others just slow the spread to varying degrees. It gets down to probability-some will get it, and some won’t. But this one is contagious enough that we’ll all probably get it. The vaccine and boosters make it no big deal if and when we do get it. And since another word for probability is chance, then it’s like you said-who the hell knows? But I guess we’ll find out, eh? You should Here’s our story, similar to yours-and I suspect to many others. Over Christmas, six of us spent four days together, mostly inside since it was rainy. There was a 2 year-old, her mom and dad, my sister and I who are both a bit over 70, and a nanny. Everyone caught it, except for me. Can’t explain that-it’s just probability. Some will get it, some won’t. The resulting good news was that they all recovered after fairly mild symptoms (headache, fatigue, nothing in the lungs) which lasted around 3 days, then receded pretty quickly. We were all vaccinated and boosted, except for the baby. She was a bit tired for a day, then back to yahoo. The run that you had with Delta sounds rough. Best of luck!

I dunno, Walensky, I've been wearing N100 masks for a while through this pandemic and, while I'm not going to be running a marathon in one, it is comfortable enough for me to wear it all day in an office setting. An N95 would be even more breathable. Now, maybe she's concerned with a segment of the population with already reduced lung function? That's certainly a valid point, but I think the vast majority of Americans should be fine.

I make my own masks. Mine are form fitted to my face, include a filter using 1/4 inch felt which when taken out of my dryer are static charged. A clean new mask every day is also very important. Reusing masks also increases your risk. My masks seal perfectly around my face with a wire bridge at the nose to prevent air from leaking. I wear glasses and so far, no fogging issues even when I sneeze.

Here is how you can evaluate your mask, there checks won't tell you if your mask is truly N95 or KN95, but failure of the following will tell you that your mask is not an N95 or KN95: 1. Stitches are not allowed. The mask must have welded seems. Stiching holes are too big, and stiched mask would fail N95 or KN95 test. 2. Nose piece has a wire or metal strip on real N95s. If the part of the mask that goes over the nose cannot be formed to fit the shape of your face and stay in that shape, it's a fake.

I've worn 2 masks since they became available: a KN95 from Korea & foldable N95 wrap around. After each use I spray them with isopropyl alcohol. I occasionally soak on the alcohol in flat dish overnight. The alcohol evaporates, masks are dry & disinfected (tested & confirmed with microscopic analysis by product designer). Recycle & Reuse.
@jameskoziol26432 жыл бұрын
You know, 3 masks are better. At least put a surgical mask over the N95. Your KN-95 must fit very tight. Use that a a pre-filter. Also, if you have a car check the cabin air filter. I change that every month. In my car I only wear 2 masks since my cabin air filter is clean.
