An absolute masterpiece of a metalcore record. I will not be taking any questions.

I know technically you are right, but in my heart they will always be a melodic hardcore band.
@Joseph-R Жыл бұрын
@@SpielkindFR I think for a lot of these older bands that started in early 2000's, it was more acceptable to call this kind of stuff melodic hardcore over metalcore, because metalcore was really leaning into that clean chorus with a bit of that scene/emo influence. So in my mind this band will always be melodic hardcore, even if by todays standards they fit more into metalcore.

I’m a big Misery Signals fan, and I know these guys were influenced by them. Not everyone’s style, but for me it’s a great balance of aggressive and melodic. Skilled musicians too, with some emotion behind it.

Counterparts are one of my fav bands of all-time. But I can see why its not for everyone. To me they are peak melodic hardcore/metalcore. The albums The Difference Between Hell And Home and Tragedy Will Find Us are masterpieces that helped me go throught alot back when they were released. I'll forever cherish them and Brendan is one of my favorite vocalist ever. Thanks for being honest and true to yourself even if you don't enjoy stuff, you're one of my fav reactor and this is one of the main reasons.

Have you ever listened to King Buffalo. Check out Loam, Grifter, or Shadows. Very good band with a variety of prog rock styles.

Took me a while to get into Counterparts. Mathcore and Hardcore both often have so little melody. Their album You're Not You Anymore is probably the easiest to get into, and a quick listen at sub-30 min. That being said, the things you didn't like are pretty consistent throughout CP's discography. Cheers for listening.

I honestly think if anyone wants to get into Counterparts they just need to listen to The Disconnect. It's literally one of the greatest songs of all time.
@jakobmogenson5150 Жыл бұрын
Perfectly reasonable takes here, I get why this sound isn’t for everyone. But given the fact that the things you didn’t enjoy about it are so integral to the sound of hardcore in general, I have a feeling that hardcore just simply isn’t your thing altogether. So many bands in the scene are so heavily influenced by the sound of hardcore punk from back in the day that it’s difficult not to hear it incorporated into the music now. After all, it’s called metal-“core” for that very reason. I think this record truly encapsulated the best elements of both genres into a near-perfect metalcore experience, but to each their own.
@coal_919 ай бұрын
He listens mostly to the newer style of metalcore which has far less hardcore influence like Northlane, Invent Animate etc. So I'm the exact opposite. I like the hardcore influenced, fast paced style of metalcore and I get bored with the groovy djent stuff.

Definitely an understandable take on Counterparts. I personally love this album because of the things you don't like haha, and actually also the reason I like genres like midwest emo and pop punk. I love those contrasts. Huge props for sharing your honest opinion on this album, I can totally see why this wouldn't be your cup of tea, but glad you listened to it nonetheless.

So Counterparts’ vocalist and the already well known Will Putney have another band with other members that is heavy as balls called END. Might be worth giving it a try later in the future.

I'd love for you to check out END. Counterparts' singer Brendan is in it alongside Will Putney, who produces a lot of great heavy records and plays guitar in Fit For An Autopsy. They fall more under the hardcore umbrella than the bands you typically feature on this channel.
@toxer7497 Жыл бұрын
What a great band, happy to see you checking them out. I recommend you END now, it's more deathore-ish with the same singer Brendan and the other members are from different bands like Will Putney playing guitar in END who is also in Fit For An Autopsy and a well known producer.

we call it "angry music for happy people." Slow sad songs are cool and all but there's something special about being able to dance and cry at the same time, so i guess you could say the sound translates better live.

The reasons you gave for why you’re not a huge fan are exactly the same for me. I can tolerate some of it more than you do I think but I feel basically the same. Imo this album was one of the only ones I think I actually liked fully.

Glad you checked Counterparts out Drew!! Although this wouldn't have been the record i would have chosen truth be told. I'd give The Difference Between Hell And Home a shot. its been 10 years as well so its had that time to marinate.

You should check out EXTENDED PAIN by thrown! It's one of Buster Odeholm's other bands, and he does drums and production so you know it sounds amazing. Kind of on the opposite end of the extreme metal spectrum from like Humanity's Last Breath and Vildhjarta, a lot of hardcore influence and aggressive, simple caveman type stuff. It's also only 11 minutes so would be very quick to film lol

100% with you on Counterparts, everything points to the fact I SHOULD like them but it just hasn’t clicked. I think you’re the same as me and drawn to albums with really polished production rather than ones with a more raw feel.
@saughs Жыл бұрын
I noticed that difference too. I like both, but I’ve always thought the more raw production (but not too raw) adds a cool factor to it. Too polished can sound very produced and sterile… but it’s all personal preference. I appreciate both.

Can't wait to see them live next week with Kublai Khan TX and Paleface! I think you would really enjoy Stick To Your Guns, they are more in the melodic direction with singing and all that.

Understand I have not seen any of your other videos and do not know what your taste in music is. I also have no musical background/ability beyond the recorder in elementary school. I admit, I understand your critiques of the up tempo almost “happy” moments of songs that continue with dark lyrics. That is a logical critique that I haven’t thought of previously. It is a clear clash/contradiction in the writing. However, I think that is just what melodic hardcore/metalcore is, and it’s part of the experience of the songs and albums. It just might not be your taste. Just like how I can’t get behind most dgent type bands. But I view it as a balance of hard/heavy and melody. The melodic and tempo driven parts are a way to set up and add value to the heavy grooves and breakdowns that you did enjoy. It keeps things interesting for me. At the end of the day, I don’t think many, if any, other band does this better than Counterparts. This is by no means meant to rag on your reviews, but simply my assessment of the music, and a response to your assessment. Thank you for taking the time to look and listen to Counterparts sir. Also, if I had to pick a Counterparts album that you would enjoy more, I would guess “Tragedy Will Find Us”. It’s a little darker, heavier, and cuts down on light melodies. Brendan (vocals) went through a bad breakup at the time, and the lyrics and the music reflects that hurt and pain with aggression. It’s my personal favorite. I look forward to a review if you ever get around to it. Regardless, you have a new subscriber, and I will definitely check out some more of your videos!
