Considering you mentioned French overseas territories, I'm surprised you didn't mention the French-Dutch border on the Caribbean island of St. Martin. The southern half is part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, the northern half is a part of France. So despite being separated by Belgium on the European map they actually share a border in a completely different part of the world.

In fact, Ceuta and Melilla were conquered in the XV century, when Marocco wasn't really an unified state, so it is not quite the same thing as Gibraltar. Furthermore, they are very close to the rest of Spain, but Gibraltar is much further away from UK. I'm not getting political though, just remarking on the differences. I really don't care if Gibraltar is British, as long as UK and Spain get along. :)

Please let me explain the reason the Kaliningrad exclave/Russian part of old Ostpreußen exists more in-depth: Less important: Slav territories taken over by the teutonic order during the crusades Became Prussia (Preußen) Prussia merged with the house of Brandenburg creating a dominant power in central europe Important: Germany formed under Prussia (1871) --> controls Ostpreußen Germany keeps control over Ostpreußen after WWI but loses control over Danzig, etc During WW2 civilians flee/were displaced from all of Ostpreußen and all the German regions east of the Oder-River --> no (very few) Germans remain so the USSR resettles slavic peoples like the poles into Ostpreußen This then leads to the northern part of Ostpreußen, now the Kaliningrad/Königsberg exclave to be given to the USSR but formally under the control of the russian SR The southern part was given to Poland who controls it up to this day (and rightfully since the biggest ethnicity that resides there is polish, same with the northern part but russian)

Kosta M. Yeah just like how Greeks stole Albanian land
@kostam.11137 жыл бұрын
Oh the irony, Albanian talking about stealing land.
@krisjorgaqi21177 жыл бұрын
Kosta M. Just for your information Albania has never stolen land. Albania avoids getting into wars. But many countries have fucked us over including Serbia and Greece. Did you know that Epirus is Albanian? A large portion of Greece used to be Albanian land. Also Kosova is Albanian land with 95% Albanian! And before you insult me for being Muslim which is predictable from a Greek, IM ORTHODOX non religious Albanian

I find it hypocritical how the Spanish want the UK to relinquish claims to Gibraltar whereas they wont give back their own iver seas territories!
@vulturearmy37807 жыл бұрын
Shadow Fan who would they give it to? The Canarias Island and the Belearic Island were always apart of Spain and always will be. In fact Ceuta and Melilla should be apart of Spain as they were Spanish territories. Not sure where you got that conclusion from?

Russia kept Kaliningrad because it's the only port they have on the baltic sea that is ice free year round. It's an important naval base for them.

Fun fact: France and The Netherlands also border each other. not in europe, but in the caribbean sea. Saint-Martin (French) and Sint-Maarten (Dutch)!

There is another unusual border on the Caribbean island of St Martin, which is split between the French overseas territory of St-Martin and the Dutch overseas territory of Sint Maarten.

I know this is two years late although on the smallest offchance if anyone seeing this, at 8:41 you were very close to st.martin the only place the Netherlands and France border and its funny because it’s incorrectly labeled Anguilla which is a neighboring island

Canada also has a land border with France at 46.859972, -56.099388. It wont show up unless you enable Earth mode.

In Australia, Victoria has an actual land border with Tasmania due to a mapping error of some sort some many years ago, maybe you could mention that in some video sometime if that's interesting in any way

A few more to check out for other people who are interested in this: French-Dutch border on Saint-Martin/Sint-Maarten French-Canadian maritime border between Newfoundland and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon Angola and Republic of the Congo (though initially this doesn't seem surprising) UK-Cypriot border (Akrotiri) UK-Northern Cypriot border and therefore Turkish people will probably see this as a UK-Turkish border (Dhekelia)

I had a difficult time working out whether to count the UK overseas territories that don't maintain any real link with the UK, they fit into such a weird special category that I'd feel weird mentioning them
@tygret7 жыл бұрын
Same thing could be said for French Guiana though. But I guess the UK is a bit more complex.

the french connection to their overseas regions is a bit more direct, as they all use the euro and vote on presidential elections. I think it's still not 100% metropolitan France but it's a lot closer than the falklands or cetain military bases are to being "britain".
