In this video I’m gonna show you how to play a tasty n’ twangy country guitar lick for your bag o’ tricks.
Pulling off this lick requires techniques used by the best country guitar players, including hybrid picking and of course some percussive chicken picking!
I’ll break it down for you, piece-by-piece, and show you how to use the techniques involved. And by the end of this video you’ll have a badass lick to add to your arsenal and bust out at your next jam.
The lick is in the key of A, and you’ll notice that a big portion of it fits inside the A minor pentatonic scale. Just like in blues and rock, the pentatonic scale is popularly used in country guitar as well.
Personally I love the unique style that country guitar can add to something as prolific as the pentatonic scale.
And when it comes to the best country guitar techniques, this lick has got it all! Pedal steel-like bends, hybrid picking, and chicken picking. We’ll go over each technique and how to apply it to the lick.
Bonus: with these techniques under your fingers you have the opportunity to apply them in creative ways to the other licks you already got in the bag. Think of these country guitar techniques as a way to make your licks instantly country-fied!
