Every morning a new word was posted on the white board in the kitchen,at dinner time, they had to tell us the definition, part of speech, spell it and use it in a sentence! Their friends all looked forward to word of the day as well! My best Kitcheaide investment was a second bowl! We bake large batches of cookies and or overnight potatoes and being able to have two bowls is fabulous!

I have 2 abandoned houses in my neighborhood. I could sit on my porch and watch the rats playing tag. These are bigger rats and they could actually chew the seals off of my home canned foods. I think they might be able to beat you up and tote you of if they wanted to. Anyway I don't know how you feel about this but after losing so much food I finally had to go with poisons. I bought the "Just One Bite" from Amazon and it worked and worked good. i do have dogs so I had to put it somewhere they couldn't get it. It is a little pricey, at least it was to me, but if you don't have an adverse thought on it, you could give that a try.

Something that has helped me with mice is to go into a TSC or hardware and buy plug ins that emit a sound that the mice can hear but we can’t. The ones I have a little light in them but there are those that don’t but they all work good. It may take awhile to get rid of them but it will happen. I bought mine with 3 or 4 in a package. I have one down in my cellar, the main floor has 1 in nearly every room and 1 in one of the 2 rooms in the upstairs. I had 1 left so I plugged it in my garage. I don’t want to ever be without these little devices. I’ve had these since fall of 2019.

A good way to drain fat from ground meat is to line a salad or large bowl with aluminum foil and place a colander over the bowl . Pour the entire contents of the frying pan into the colander. I always place a folded paper towel into bottom of the bowl to absorb the fat. After it drains as long as you want it, fold the foil into a pouch and throw it into the garbage. In the winter, it solidifies quickly. Not so much in the summer. I place used paper towels used for hand drying or lightly soiled to absorb the grease before throwing the pouch away.
