When I see racist imagery or words online, it "triggers" my anxiety and deeply makes me sad. Everyone just brushes it off like it's nothing. @PaintedHoundie5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, wouldn't use the word stolen. We typically move on from genres we help mold pretty fast. Like rock for esample: The rock we're familiar with today is more influenced by bands that came from the uk, by that time that started pickin up we were moving onto something else. Even the genres that we decided to keep around change every other 4 years or so. The genre absolutely has black cultural roots, but what the genre transformed you can say really is theirs. There have definitely been vultures in our history. But we do tend to move on pretty quick, in terms of those genres mentioned.

@PaintedHoundie5 жыл бұрын
@@lowrider276 didnt imply that we literally abandon genres. im saying there are trends of us not staying on the same wave for too long. thats why i used the rock example. we definitely were not pushed out of rock, we were done with rock within a decade. artists like jimi hendrix actually had what youd call a struggle, being frustrated not being accepted by black audiences very much at the time, and had to go to europe to get more recognition for his sound. cause at the time that sound was on its way out, we had moved on to that funk/soul sound. he was straight up clowned trying to perform in harlem, and was even accused of playing "white man's music". and there's other genres like disco that just didnt last as long, or changed into something else fairly quick. new jack swing was less than a decade, ended like mie 90s. you gotta give some examples of us straight up being pushed out of a genre, unless youre saying our genres often get "elvisided". if thats the same as what you mean i agree with that on some level. but id like to get more info on that, for research's sake if you can provide examples.

Lunar Orbit except most music and culture is hybrid across the Americas , so that’s not really a good point imo . Considering that Africans had no other choice but to “adapt” and “assimilate” to their surroundings, makes this convo much more complex than simply derivatives. However even if we go with your point, if there’s a shared origin of music, why are black people left out of it? To me that’s the point.
@tananario5 жыл бұрын
Sorta. There is a bunch of Celtic beats in there. Country music came out of the fusion of the two. tananario yep. I’m a black southerner and have Celtic lineage myself because I’m “from” the south. It just surprised that billboard charts participate in that racist shit. It's frustrating how non black artists can be versatile and do every genre and get credibility in each genre but black artists gotta stay in the R&B/Rap fields. It’s so sad how history can be rewritten. Thanks for setting the record straight. Old Town Road is more country than most songs on the country charts these days. You’re completely right; so many popular country songs today have so much pop, rock, rap, and r&b elements. It’s been this way for years and nobody blinks an eye. I can’t help but think of a very similar country song to Lil Nas X’s that was really popular in 2010-ish maybe. It was called Dirt Road Anthem by a singer named Jason Aldean. It was a country rap song and it charted pretty high on country charts. I can’t help but wonder why that particular song wasn’t taken off the charts at the time. It’s so awful that Lil Nas X was treated so unfairly. There’s actually a video of him talking about the billboard situation (the lyric breakdown video) and even though he never specifically stated it, anyone with empathy could tell it really hurt his feelings. One of my favourite Nicki Minaj songs is "Lookin' Ass" and I cannot sing along. I went to a country music party once and left within the hour because I found the crowd obnoxious. But the reason I love both genres so much (and hope that they eventually successfully grow together) is because they are the ultimate genres about the American experience. And I'm not talking about mumble rap and "I love my truck" ballads, I'm talking about the quality content of both. It's so interesting to see as an outsider.

It's so sad because hip-hop and R&B originally a black genera and every damn race jump on it freely and be creative and also gets praised for it, but when black people jump on county music it's such a huge problem, the country music community are just a bunch a trashy racist folks!!, I hope a million more black people jump on county music and make huge impact like lil naz x did

I’m white and love country music and never cared about the skin colour of the person singing it but I think it’s sad that there’s not many black people in country music getting recognition even when they started country music because it comes from blues and folk which people of colour started

I don't know a thing about country music, or even the artist, but this got me feeling some type of way. My sister on here dropping knowledge and historical facts, just straight educating. I didn't even realize I liked country music, but I listened to Faith Hill, Billy Ray Cirrus and Dixie Chicks back in the day. I'm learning.

Not to be conspiratorial, but I think country labels put pressure on billboard to remove the song bc it would undoubtedly shoot to the top of the charts (leading to less money for them). It appeals to a wide audience, and combines two genres with some of the most loyal listeners. Another reason might be that they are not alright with this kind of crossover with country. Rock is great. Pop is okay. Hip hop? Absolutely not, apparently.

When Florida Georgia Line and Nelly had a remix that HAD to go on the charts. Where the hell did THAT song end up on the charts?
@MiaRosenbloom5 жыл бұрын
I think it's dope that more people of color are embracing country music and becoming artists of the genre. I think country needs the diversity, especially considering where it originated from. Also, while I like how modern country music barrows elements of hip hop, and R&B (as a white person who grew up listening to hip hop yet was born & raised in the sticks, modern country music bridges the gap between the sound I like, and the culture I'm familiar with), I think it's unfair that white country artists can use elements of urban music and still be considered country on the charts, but a black artist can't. That's messed up, and it needs to be corrected. Thank you Kim, for bringing this to everybody's attention. I hope Lil Nas X, and the rest of black artists who venture into country music get the recognition they deserve in the future. I believe times are slowly but surely changing for the better.

SMDH Florida Georgia Line did a remix of one of their songs with Nelly and the genre that it is considered is country pop and drumroll.........country RAP! And that song came out when I was in high school, so there's literally no excuse for them pulling the first song when they knew that genre already existed.

I thought I heard somewhere that the term "cowboy" originally inferred a black person. It came from many of these ranch hands being black, and being referred to as "boys" back in the day ... then eventually the term cowboy was coined. Also ... my grandfather was a black man from Missouri who loved country music and played the banjo. I never knew that history of the banjo.

Most of the “country” nowadays isn’t real country, including Old Town Road (clearly rap), it’s crap. Real country is Hank Williams Jr., Darius Rucker, David Allen Coe, Kenny Rodgers, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and others. It’s not race, it’s tradition and talent.
