You know what, we all hate on Germany for both the World Wars but they were very effective in war. The fact that they had to constantly aid Austria-Hungary in multiple battles while still dealing with their own and at some points doing very good is impressive! And when they had to help out Italy while convincing other countries to join them while fighting the UK is also impressive! I think that Germany had probably some of the best military leaders in the world around that time if they could do all of that!

Pretty wrong. The alliance was made only on defensive purpose. The declaration of war by Germany and A-U was a sort of violation. So, it was normal that Italy remained neutral. When the situation started to get harder for the Empires, the Italy offered itself to join, or still remain neutral. The problem was the agreement. Italy asked just the territory of Trieste, in north-east, a few other territories around where there was a lot of Italian population. But, (and this was pretty stupid) the empires never accepted the request. Consequence (obvious, because also of the pressure of the population, and the "interventisti" also never happy of the relationship with the Austrian - see the 3 indipendence wars) joined the allies. Also note that the negotiation was always made in secret. I'm personally not defending what's happened, ok? XD i personally think that they should have accepted the Italy requested, and today we probably wouldn't have seen another world War. I guess that today it's just more a meme the fact of changing side, that actually didn't happened as it seems. If you don't trust me, just simply read the docs from Wikipedia, really interesting. Also the one from ww2, the army didn't "change" side. The invasion of Southern Italy + the partisans forced the main army to fall back to Salò, while another revolutionary army started fighting against the axis. The population was tired of the war and most of them joined the partisans, but the poor soldiers were not traitors. They just kept following the orders until the fall.
