my dads friend and basically my uncle when i was little i watched hang 12 footers on a ceiling by himself with a t made out of 2x4s. i dont remember exsactly how he did it but i remember being very impressed at how fast he did it. and how fast he was putting those screws in. he was a Vietnam vet but he was such a good drywaller. everyone called him david guitar larson cause he was always playing and singing blues songs and was just a great guy. RIP dave larson

genius, thanks! i only did ceiling drywall once, with an old Italian guy with a hernia. he was "teaching" me. he would lift and I would try to brace the center with a single 2x4, then we would both scream at each other until it was sort of tacked on. this method looks much more sensible haha

Same method, use a 2x with a 3/4" strip firmly attached (no swivel).place it over the first sheet you installed, one joist in from the end of the drywall (2× on top, 3/4" board toward the floor). Screw it through the drywall, a couple inches from the edge. That way the hole will be in the seam and not make more work for yourself. Do the same thing at the other end of the drywall. Then position a ladder about five feet out from the edge of the first piece of drywall and lean a dead man against it. Make sure the deadman won't fall over and break a window or damage drywall! Insert the second piece of drywall, raise the opposite edge, and wedge the deadman underneath.

Not a bad idea. You can also rent a self crank drywall lift that is very easy to use and there’s no need for blocks. The first few sheets will go a little slow, but as you get used to the lift you’ll move along at a faster speed.

I only made preparations for one side of the drywall. I staged my ladder about five feet from the wall, with the deadman leaning against it. Then I would insert the drywall into the support on the wall, lift the drywall, grab the deadman and wedge it under the side opposing the wall.

Why would it not work ?

@CurtisWesbrook Жыл бұрын
@@kevovernon If you're doing a piece in the middle of a room, you wouldn't be able to: 1) slide it up the wall like that, and 2) have the 2x2 to rest it on, because there would presumably already be a sheet of drywall where you'd need the 2x2 to go.

Thanks so much! Saved me from having to hire another person to replace one full sheet of ceiling sheetrock! Owner of the house stored a lot of electronic equipment balanced on the joists. Raccoons got in the attic and created havoc and damage to A/C and two holes in the ceiling. One hole was created when the electronic equipment was knocked off the joists crashing through the sheetrock. The other hole (3' in diameter) was created when damage to the A/C drip pan was damaged causing attic insulation to soak up water and eventually got the sheetrock wet which then fell through. So, thank you for your vid!
