The only indestructible resting surface I found for my dog kennel is 4 x 6 feet, ¾ inches rubber mats, the one they use in cows barns. It is comfortable enough for the feet and to lie on for long periods.

I have used waterproof crib mattresses for my dogs, with crib sheets. They wipe down easily and I put crib sheets on them which are inexpensive and can be changed and washed with ease.

Evan: you were talking about the metal legs on the dog beds that the dogs chew up and you wanted something to cover the metal. those legs look like about the same size as my cane/walker and they sell replaceable rubber tips that are really hard rubber at Walmart for like two dollars a pair. You might wanna check it out otherwise you can take a tennis ball, or a hard rubber ball, and then make like a “+” on top and push the legs down in. that will keep them from scratching the paint on the floor thanks!

The only other thing I would do is put a good locking doorknob on the going into the shop from dog/ storage room. The outside doggie door is big enough someone pass through which would someone enter the shop while you are gone.

I told my dog, Striker, an 8-ye old smooth coated collie about the dog ballistic dog bed. He told me that if I get him one he’ll gladly accept the challenge and destroy it. I’ve learned to give him several blankets that he can make a nest out of.

Heat I suggest an "Infrared electric heater" mounted above and directed at the floor! This is an excellent application in that it heats the floor and not the dogs themselves. Also works well outside to heat the concrete itself and not the "air" of course as the warmed air would be blown away by the wind, as air heaters are! They are an excellent way to dehumidify an area if not overheating is not an issue! This application will work in the "workshop" area also! propane or electric! feel great on your feet. Mickey

Nice kennel, it would add to comfort if you were to put in commercial rubber mats under their bed cushions, as the cushions you have a very thin to lay on concrete. Pads would also keep the dogs warmer laying on the cold concrete. Best, Carol D.

Our youngest Corgi would chew on things, but rope toys ended up being our solution. They seem to love those. The youngest has a habit of bringing in sticks from the backyard and chewing them up rather than the bedding.

That is a beautiful room/kennel, even to the decorations on the window sill. I love how both the dogs walked back and forth doing their inspections of the room dividing fence and gate. Y'all have thought about everything to make this a perfect space for them both inside and out. Thank you so much for sharing. JudithB Super job on the kennel. Have you looked at the big balls they have for horses to play with?? Might be a fun thing for the dogs in their yard!!! I am getting ready to clean out my chicken pens and put down fresh chips on their floor. Need to do some work on the next boxes, to keep them from roosting on them. This winter I am going to try and work outside more, and really get the cleanup and repairs done before garden season! LOL!

Dogs I tell ya. I’ve gone through a couple beds for my dog inside his crate and every single one he’s destroyed so now he just lays on the plastic tray. We have a bed in our bedroom and another in the living room that he lays on and doesn’t destroy.

Our daughter's Labrador/Australian Heeler mix is really tough on dog beds too. So have been our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for that matter. Were you able to buy those locally?

Very nice. (Though I will say that there is a reason most dog kennels are 6 feet tall. Hopefully your 2 won't decide that climbing or jumping out of a 4 foot fence is fun. With their size, and how athletic Aussies are, they could easily clear a 4 foot fence.)
