I totally agree with your assessment of the Mr. Cool unit. We're on our third season with two 24k units in our shop and they've worked flawlessly. I liked them so much I installed a 24k in our pool house outbuilding. The first unit took the better part of a day to install. The second took almost 4 hours. The third took two hours. Our son-in-law liked the units so much he asked me to help him install one in his garage. So, he bought a "just like Mr. Cool" unit and saved $200. He may have saved $200 but it took two of us a full day to install it. It was a royal pain. Tolerances of routing the lines within the unit were incorrect and the line set was extremely hard to bend without kinking. Thanks for the video!

I am happy for you. Just so you know, to tell true humidity, you need to start watching your dew point. The weather can say 100 percent humidity just because it's raining. But that humidity feels nothing like the hot humid days of summer. Just a little FYI. If you start following your dew point, it will tell you a lot 👍

Yes, dew point is a much more fundamental measure. It is also intuitive and gives you a target - keep air temp above dew point and there won’t be condensation. We have a dehumidifier in our little cabin - the slab would be cold in spring and dew point would go higher than the slab. Now it stays at 50% relative humidity so it’s good and dry.

Once you clean the rust off the jointer bed or table saw, put paste wax on it and it won't rust. You just have to add more wax as you use the tools and it wears off. That's how I keep the rust away. I use Johnsons paste wax for floors.

Evan to remove the rust from your tools all you need is some brass wire wheels and WD40 clean rags and your cordless drill or grinder depending on what type of brass wheels you purchase and buff away after you get the rust off go back with some ascestone and clean rags to get all the oil from the surfaces,then apply some wax on the surfaces Rockler sells products for proctoring the cast iron and steel surfaces.

Ok, first, great job on the installation. But with the line set being in a coil like it is over time, it will destroy the outdoor unit. The reason is that your refrigerant has oil in it. Any oil will settle in the bottom of the line set.

I am not too far away from you in S. Wisc. and I know what you mean about humidity. I insulated the shop when I built it, but I only heat it with a Kerosene torpedo heater or a propane heater, and in both cases, it introduces even more humidity to the space. For things like the table saw top, or machining tool surfaces, I have had good luck waxing them. Pretty simple and protects the surface. I would love to install a unit at some point, and probably should considering that is the industry I work in, lol. Take care!

After you buff the iron surfaces with some fine steel wool to remove the rust you can apply a coat of car wax . This aids two ways: your work will slide easily on the surface and it will slow down future rusting.

Evan If I Didn't Know Better I would I would have thought you wasn't installer for that company you did a great job. Now I have a suggestion that can also help you with your moisture problem in your your Workshop or any space in your house that has moisture problems even your basement. And this is a DIY item that I learned when I used to work for a retail supply company and I used to sell power tools and I made a lot of money by getting the scale rust off of people's tools and I passed this on from my old time of the taught me this. Get you some containers to about the same size the bigger the container the better off it would be and put you some curriculum nitrate which is mostly ice melt or get you some well salt and place that in one bucket/ container that has drain holes in the bottom of it and place that inside the other bucket container so it can catch the runoff of moisture that is in the particular area where you place it at.Evsn it sounds funny but it works TRUST & BELIEVE . Now to remove that scale rust at our job the best thing to do is to get you some penetrating oil like WD-40 and spray it on the rough surfaces and let it sit and come back with an orbital da sander with some sandpaper of at least 180 grit or higher and sand the surface to remove the surface rust. Wipe off with a horrible wreck and get you some of floor wax or beeswax and buff it on the surfaces and that will leave a penetrating protected against any more rust on the metal surfaces. Please try these DIY suggestions I'm sure you be happy with the outcome
@farmtheland2 жыл бұрын
Yes I really like the MrCool, I was wondering about them and after the way you show us the installation I am getting one for my two car Garage, I live in Arizona and we spend a lot of time in the garage, but it gets so hot we have to stop. As for your tools you can lightly spray them and wipe them with W-D 40 helps alot with the rust

I hate to say this but just because you have an AC/Heat unit doesn't mean your stuff won't still rust. Adding A/C will actually create even more humidity problems. The problem is the construction of pole barns with the metal shell makes for a nightmare humidity issues. You need insane amounts of insulation and a dehumidifier plus the temperature control unit (which you have). Good luck and hope your new unit is enough to solve your problem!

I'm not of a mind to want to burst any bubbles but... that jointer bed will continue to rust if you do nothing to prevent it. When I maintained a shop I would have had rust issues with my jointer, shaper, cast iron table saw, cast iron drill press, and the ways of the lathe. I did not have a rust issue because I kept those items waxed. I used Butchers wax but any hard wax will do. Those tools that were used a lot got the treatment about every year. The less used tools could be stretched out to every other year. Not only will you enjoy the feel of the tools but your projects will move more smoothly over the tools. Don't worry, nothing will be so slippery that your projects will land on the floor rather they will feel brand new all the time. Good luck with your new and beautiful shop.
