Evan, you are absolutely correct about the corrosion at the bottom of the vessel. I recently retired from a 45 year career in mechanical engineering. I specialized in pressure vessel design and fabrication. Our experience has been that the majority of horizontal tanks fail along the low point lengthwise centerline. The increased corrosion here is caused by rain, on the outside, and potentially condensed moisture on the inside. But since this tank will be in propane service, it is unlikely to corrode internally.

Great job Evan, getting that all ready before your cold weather hits. It looks great and having the concrete pad was a real blessing. It won't be sinking into the dirt with the rain and snow., like the blocks might have. So happy for y'all that it tested out in good condition with two minor parts to put on it. Many dollars saved. Thanks for sharing this project. Have a Blessed day.

It probably will never matter, but I'm quite sure that concrete pad you found is actually an old septic tank. It likely has a large cement tank under those two slabs of concrete. But it seems like a suitable foundation, and it should serve you well for what you were needing. Nice job getting it repainted and situated.

If it was me, I would set up the inside of the workshop to have a T with shut offs and one for the main heater and another so I could hook up one of the LP quick heaters ( like a salamander) to quickly get the heat up to work or when you open and close the big shop doors. Also Evan, you probably already know this but try to keep a constant temp in the whole shop as not to draw moisture, my father didn't believe me about it and our tools would get rusted. Also when I was in the Boy Scouts, during winter campouts with concrete floors the moisture was horrible for the first 4 hours of heating the cabins. One time it was like a river. Enjoy your channel. Oh, I live in Peoria Illinois

With the type of can that your paint was in, if you take a eight penny or £.10 nail, and put about five holes around the inside of the rim of the can, when you put the lid on any paint, it spills into the rim will just be pushed back into the canna drain into the can

Evan consider installing Infared heaters. If you are installing air heaters the floors will remain cold and if door are opened at any time all the heat will escape! Infared heat floors equipment. Infared heater have no vent stack/vents outside. no heat lost out the roof stack with infrared, Air heaters have a fan motor too to energize/maintain. I had recommended them for the dogs' kennel a while back.

I am new to your channel since you talk with Pete in Rantoul, Illinois, and reviewing many of your videos I saw that two new tractors appear, but did not see the old tractors for a while then I saw you raking with the 731 case, and then found where you were working on the D 17 rebuilding the rear end. Really glad to see you still have both of these old tractors because they are classics and I sure hope you keep them forever. Although we didn’t have an Allis Chalmers, my neighbor had a WD 45, which I spent plenty of Tryme driving. He also had a WD6 McCormick Deering with the diesel that starts on gas, just like Pete’s MD that he recently rebuilt. I did grow up on a model, a John Deere, DC case, and a 1949 silver king with a 25 horse Continental engine.

A quick paint-related tip: If you invert your part used cans briefly before you put them back on the shelf, the paint seals all the tiny gaps around the lid and stops the paint skinning over during storage.

I loved this video, it reminded me of playing on our propane tank when I was a kid. My friend Anita showed me how to climb up and use the tank as a pretend horse. The handles on our tank were more on top than the handles on your tank. They were positioned perfectly to use as reins. The hood or cap was our horses head. Never mind our horses had to share a head or that we were traveling in opposite directions. Somehow we were both headed west. She always used the play name “Amy”. I wanted that name too but only because I thought Anita was so cool. I came up with a different name and we rode off into the sunset on our silver steeds. Lisa

Evan I highly recommend radiant heater mounted about 15 feet off the ground on the wall. I got two 25000 BTU F272200 . They are not too expensive and still running after 15 years. I have two of them so I can run only one when it is not too cold or run both of them to warm the garage up and turn one off. You will need to have a passive exhaust vent in the ceiling and have a CO alarm which you should have anyway.
