When I was growing up, the barn we stabled our horse at just had a salt lick block (about the size of a cobble stone or brick) mounted to the wall inside the barn's thoroughfare ... one stop salt and minerals. Cheap too. $500+ for a pair of mineral bins seems crazy.

Cattle are not like humans, they can smell what their body is craving. They will naturally look for the minerals. If you ever watch them in the pasture they will eat a certain patch of grass then move on to another, they can smell what grass has, what their body needs. Put solenium in their mineral feeder as well. It is something that pregnant cows need and so do steers!

We mount those style mineral feeders to semi tires (or whatever size tire fits). Put an eye bolt through one side and then you can drag them around between pastures as you rotate the animals. Tires help keep them from flipping over as well.

My wife worked for a pet food manufacturer. She fed their feed to her dog and when she started a new bag the dog developed a horrendous case of bad breath. She went to the quality department and quizzed them about whether they had changed the formula. No change. The dog with bad breath became a joke around the office. After a couple of weeks the quality department asked her if she still had some feed left. Turns out wild garlic had gotten into the wheat. Lots of dogs had bad breath. Be interesting to see what your milk tastes like. 😊

A cow's diet always changes the milk. In European countries dairy farmers are regulated as to when, where, and how to graze their cows so they can control the cheese that those countries regulate better than Uncle Sam regulates gasoline.
