This is my favorite U2 song. “Call out your name, call out in pain, call out in shame.” Was a heavy song for my adolescence. The Edges guitar screams, a sonic archetype for melancholy. I see the joy division in this

Song that I would have killed to hear live, but alas, my only opportunity as an adult, I was married to a prick who manipulated my life, and threatened to kick me out for showing my autonomy. And be taken away from my kids.....it was either my love for U2 or my children...

What a Boring crowd!! Sitting there like bumps on logs, unbelievable!! I love this song so much, I can’t sit still to this brilliant performance, no way!!!! Absolutely mesmerizing and magical. That amazing guitar, Bono’s passionate voice, the drums, takes me to another stratosphere. Wish I could have seen them then, been a fan since I first heard Boy in 1980. Love this song so much, this melody is so addictive…❤️

They were really on fire back then. Post punk geniuses. I've listened to Boy/October/War countless times since the 80's and they never cease to impress me. The songwriting and execution during this phase was just brilliant. Thank you for this video I love it.

The three you mentioned, plus "Unforgettable Fire", make their best career records list. Much as you, I've been listening to those records since the eighties and they are pretty much all U2 you need to listen to.

I saw U2 for the first time, in 1983 in Ft. Lauderdale as a 15-year-old kid for the WAR tour. The Alarm opened up for them and I had second row seats, my ears were ringing the entire next day. Concert ticket - $13.00, concert tee shirt - $10.00, unbelievable. I have seen every concert tour since that time with the exception of Discotheque.

What's really ironic about this song and its meaning is when life imitates art. In this song, Bono is looking for something outside his bubble. He was inspired to write the lyric after watching an atmospheric performance by the rockabilly/punk band The Cramps. "This was the peak of Goth and the gig was filled with candles," he recalled in the book "U2" by U2. "Voodoo was the order of the day, there was the atmosphere of Black Mass, and I was thinking it was the night of the tragically hip. There was a lostness in the looks on their faces. It was that sepulchral make-up, white face, dark eyes, stuff my mates in the Virgin Prunes were up to their painted eyebrows in. But it felt like the end of the world. To a very young boy, 19 years old, from the suburbs of Dublin, it seemed there was no life here at all. There might have been more humor than I was capable of spotting at the time." - Bono Vox

Needed something to prod them into moving. Not guessing that they were lucky to see what would become one of the best bands in the 80's and so forth. Kicking themselves afterwards, damn I saw U2 in their infancy, and didn't appreciate them...I try to at least listen to new bands when I first listen to them, and later have gone to say "I remember when so and so first started or played in so and so place." And they went on to be famous....
