It's 7 coins to do a coup, not 11, and 10 coins to be forced to do a coup. Also, the Inquisitor doesn't come in regular retail copies; the card was a promo. A regular copy just has the five roles: Duke, Assassin, Contessa, Captain and Ambassador.

The version that Matt has is a promo yes, but there is an expansion called Coup Reformation that comes with Inquisitors, just with different artwork. Definitely not in the base game though, that point still stands.

You guys should really check out the brazilian edition. It goes into a kind-of-renaissance italy theme with an amazing art style that I believe suits the game even better!

Came here to say this and found your comment! Being used to the Brazilian edition, which is very good looking, I was really surprised by the look of the game on the video. I don't know about the price on the UK, but here it is also a very inexpensive game, great value for the money

i like the early / mid game of coup, but its end game when there are only 2 or 3 players left all with 1 card each you can't really bluff and you know who is going to win and can't do anything about it really.

Their title has never changed. They were always called Shut Up and Sit Down. The Opener was a specific series that SU&SD created for a period of time.

There's many editions of Coup, with same rules but different themes. My fav is Polish one named "Światowy Konflikt" ("World Conflict") - USA for income, Russia for Duke, European Union for Contessa and so on. Funny (or is it?...) how they update it, so there's Obama, Trump and Biden edition while Putin's face remains there on the box and cards.

Lmao I own the game and didn't realise it until I googled it. Used to play it a lot in high school and almost forgot about it. In Poland it's called "global conflict" - it has sketches of Obama and Putin on the cover and has cards like NATO, EU (has Merkel's face on it), UN, Russia, police, media, protest and so on. I personally find that hilarious and have no idea why there rethemed it like that. Though the card backs are black, which is nice.

One time I played this once with my friends, I only lied once (claimed Duke for money) and played honestly after that. All my friends kept trying to knock me out with assassins and stuff. I won by defence and telling the truth. Paise the Contessa.

Imo the game is much improved by adding the rule that you need to specify a specific target whenever you coup or assassinate - if they don't have eg: a duke, they don't lose a card. Adds uncertainty, makes it possible to win with 1 card against someone with 2, and generally means more bluffing :)

if the person has let's say an ambassador and an assassin... And you try and assassinate/coup their assassin... How do you go about them saying "I don't have an assassin" and then them just ambassadoring to swap out the assassin next turn?

If someone assassinates you and you say they're lying, if they're not lying you immediately lose both your cards. tbh I didn't like how the assassin worked overall

You always play with 15 cards - 3x5 roles. You play with either the Ambassador OR the Inquisitor. Also, so what if you don't have the inquisitor card. You can always play with the Ambassador card using Inquisitor rules.

I like the game until you have 3 players left. Once you have 3, two of the players can team up on 1 guy if they want and just eliminate him. basically play until you are down to 3 then quit cause it stops being fun.

It's an feature they used to do. "The Opener" indicates that the game is a shorter piece that you might use to start the evening off before getting out a bigger, feature game. Alternatively it can mean it's a game which is shorter than others and relatively accessible to non-gamers, showing them what games can be like without investing time into something like Pandemic.

The trick is to always bluff and go for 3 coins because it's actually safer than being a wimp and taking 2 coins. The game is kind of broken and bad once you figure that out...

I might get the guys to try it again sometime and see how it works out for me.

@@blitzs619 Quick summary. I was new, and played a 3 player game with two experienced players. I had the rules explained to me, and said "I've heard this game is great, I got this/seems pretty simple". The veteran A goes first, chooses to assassinate me. I say you can't do that and challenge, but he's the assassin. Dead/eliminated, total play time was less than 30 seconds and I received no turns. Seriously unimpressed and a pointless, frustrating waste of time, there was no fun to be had. Played a couple more bouts, went exactly the same. Skip it and play something better please :).

@@andredevilliers7825 your so called "experienced" friends don't know how to play the game. Each player starts with 2 coins. It takes 3 to assassinate, therefore it's impossible to assassinate on the first round.
