Wow! Having the resources to check on neighbors and help them out if needed is good. Your comments on living in a community that functions as a Community, not just a collection of houses, is insightful. So glad that your hard work has paid off in a warm, safe place for you two and the growing baby plus Bugaboo. The coming year, with the new baby, gardening, flying trips, house sheathing, interior finishing work, canning, etc.. etc...will be an exciting one. Thank you for bringing us along on your adventure.

People have different priorities but wife and I have a long term project in the works: figuring out what to do with 63 acres of NE Texas 20 to 40 year old regrowth raw land.First thing we did was build a barn for a couple of tractors,then we bought an old D-6 and started clearing,cutting roads etc. Built another bigger barn and started bringing in more tractors,tools,implements and equipment.A house of some type will be the last thing we do. Barns protect and secure the most important things we have on the farm: the equipment and tools we need. You've got some really nice equipment: all sitting out in the weather...Barn or at least an equipment shelter might be a wise investment.

Nice to see people helping others. I am retired - so I am happy to go out with my 13 HP snow blower. I plow 3 complete driveways and sidewalks. Clear driveways 'front ends' for 4 others after the plow comes by and plugs their driveways. One is handicapped / 1 has had surgery and others work during the day. Friendly neighborhood with people looking out for each other. The way it should be.

You need to timber frame a 3 or 4 stall loafing shed (slant roof, open front), to park your vehicles and equipment under. Park your truck and car over, out of the way. Back them up to the hot tub? You could even tuck the hot tub under the end stall, in the shade, out of the weather!

We live on a dead end street and do not get near as much snow as you . But during the last two bouts of snow , I cleared 9 driveways with my lawn tractor with a two stage snowblower . I dream of getting powder but we usually get "wet concrete" snow . Been clearing neighbors driveways for years and enjoy it . Received many thanks . Being retired has its advantages .

If one us had a broken down car the other would pitch in to offer rides to the store or appointments and we would do the same for them as well. Community is so important without it, every one fends for themselves. Thank you for the reminder.

You waited long for that roof "shedding" footage! Well worth it! You maybe should tie a tarp over the backhoe to kerp the cab from getting snowdrenched? And then maybe if mommy hop on, a small tarp will kerp the snow from her legs? Like a 2 x 2 meter little tarp?

I know are snow in Veneta Oregon doesn't even come close to Idaho but we got hit with a foot and a half yesterday I got a bunch of boys together and we shoveled snow out of driveways up and down our street it felt really good.

Hello my friend I was an equipment operator for many years and Backhoes very often didn’t come with caps. We would put a big sheet of plexi glass over the front of the cab. Drill holes and zip-tie them to the post. This cut the wind out. Stay thirsty my friend.

I have seen just about every video you have posted since the beginning. This is by far one of the best. Of course, I am a Michigan boy who lived in Idaho for 3 years and northern New York for 3 years where a lite snow is 3 feet and the last of the snow piles melted somewhere in June or July. Watching your videos, my wife Vicky (born in Boise) and I miss Idaho so much.

I showed my wife and she couldn't believe the snow got that big....... From a person that hasn't seen snow for real in her life. Even today its been 37c (98.6f) here in Melbourne Australia, cooling down over the next couple of days to 36c (96.8f) For her 50th next year, she wants me to take her somewhere so she can experience the snow like your getting now. Crazy huh :) Keep warm and we'll keep cool cheers

Would it be beneficial to cut some plexiglass/acrylic panels that you could screw onto the backhoe to work as a windshield? I know they could get all covered in snow but it seems a windshield of sorts could help when you get out on the road. Maybe it would help block the wind a little.

You should try to use a leaf blower to get rid of the snow. If not too sticky it can makes wonders. As a protective perecaution, maybe put a transparent tarp shell on the backhoe cabin would save you a lot of time while protecting the panels.

Have you guys thought about buying a snow pusher for the backhoe? Think it would make it easier for you. It does costs alot but you could probably find one used.
@davidmc81105 жыл бұрын
Yeah, during a storm it's always best to clean it up every several inches of accumulation, a snowblower will clean it all up without burying everything or creating huge snowbanks, and then you can do the final plowing for the last run or two. Snow storms can be fun :)
@robertherzog20875 жыл бұрын
I know how you must feel with that blizzard.I was watching you plow the day we had a cold front come through with lots of rain and dropped the temperature down to 65 degrees. Here it is the last day of February, the trees a have all blossomed out and we have winter conditions in Tampa, Fl. But at least we don't have to shovel or plow rain. Yeah, I'm rubbing it in on the weather, but we certainly don't have the mountain views. Keep the videos coming, I look forward to watching them.

@BIG77BUBBA5 жыл бұрын
When you’re done using the tractor put a tarp over it to cover all four sides of the cab with A cloth or a strong tarp and bungees you knock off the snow before you take the bungee cords off and then you open it up. Or you can just unstrap the bungees and flip it over and pull it all off at one time and then you’re done and you can put plexiglass on your windshield so you don’t have snow flying in your face those are some options that we use
