Wish Alyssa is feeling better soon. Wow after an hour and a half of straight pumping there is still a strong stream of water, it does not look like the flow decreased any. That is a good sign the well is in a good aquifer. Congratulations, job well done

Water is never lost even if running down the road. Completely recyclable. Evaporates into the air or sinks back into the ground to water the Forrest.

Lived in and old farm house and the well was easily a hundred years old. Had an old pump jack that we would turn on from time to time that replaced a windmill to fill the cistern. If I was in your situation I would just pump water into the cistern you have with a simple prefilter to keep major amounts of sediment out that may pop up from time to time and then for water in the house use a small pump and tank for making sure you have the desired pressure on the upper floors. A float valve in the cistern for minimum and maximum levels will allow the large pump to run and hour or two at a time every couple days and then just a small 110v pump in the house for demand and then put in a carbon filter to knock down bad flavor that can creep up at certain times of the year. It's a little more complex but instead of having the well pump pressurizing the line all the way into the house to the top floor it is just filling the tank with only the head pressure of the lift to the tank system. You may even find that the water pressure from the cistern is more than enough for what you need upstairs. Figuring your top floor fixtures at 35 feet below the cistern you should still have 15psi (height of water level in feet X 0.433) of water which will easily run a bathroom sink or toilet so unless you are planning to put in a dishwasher or clothes washer up there it should be just fine.

I have the exact system you guys are talking about, been using it for 12 years no issues. You guys may have already passed this point but I don't mind sending you a picture of my setup and I don't mind answering any questions. One of the nice things about having the cisterns is if you have any sulfur in the water it gets to gas out before it hits the house. You probably also want to invest in a water softer to protect your appliances and hot water heater.

Not a bad idea to chlorinate (sanitize) the well and circulate it through the system. Then let sit for 24 hrs and flush it out. This will kill any bacteria that may have entered the well and or pipe during the drilling process. Always exciting to drill a new well. Lugged water from an artesian well 20 miles away for 15 years before I broke down and had one drilled. Love your videos and enthusiasm...looking forward to the next vid!

The string you are using to pull the wire will cut in to the pvc pipe on the corners like the 90s corners, you should use a pulling string or fish tape or a small rope.

Hi Jesse and Alyssa It has been fun watching your progress over the last many months. When I was watching you two pulling in your cable to the well I heard a sound that may cause you grief in the future. It was the sound of the jet line cutting into the PVC conduit. A couple of ways that you can cut down on this problem is 1. Look into getting a pull line that is called mule tape. It is a flat rope that is coated with a material that makes it very slick and it is designed for pulling wire in PVC conduit. 2. On the end of the conduit where you will be pulling the wire out of you can use a rigid metal 90 elbow as this is the 90 that will get cut. 3. Another trick to use is get yourself a piece of 1/2 " poly pipe and slip it into the conduit past the 90 degree bend with your pull line inside. It will keep the jet line from sawing into the PVC conduit. Also as someone said previously use some pull soap. Hope one of these ideas helps.

Use the cistern to feed the house. Use the well to fill the cistern. Set up a pressure booster in the house. Worked at a job that had a booster because of low city water pressure. If we lost power we still had some water pressure on the lower level of the building which was nice. Sucks on my well when power is out because no water. Dont wheel my generator out unless its expected to be a long outage.

You could always add a sand filter to your water supply. A buddy moved to Mexico and wasn't happy with his water supply so he found a used pool sand filter and hooked it up. He's able to back flush it every month or so and he has great water for his whole house. He says it takes out a lot of the mineral taste from the water. A cheap way to filter the water. It cost him $20 and another $20 for new sand.

As a water treatment specailist my biggest concern is that you plan on storing your well water in the cisterns.. if you do so please add a UV unit or chlorinate to kill off anything I might be growing in the tanks, with the chlorine from your municipal water this would have prevented bacterial growth for a short period of time, on the well water it will be free to grow. If you have any questions going forward feel free to ask

So glad to see Alyssa feeling better. Take care of yourself and don't overdo it so soon. We have missed you. More bugaboo in videos. Purple snow? What ever happened to yellow snow? 🤪 Just use a whole house carbon filter system between the well output and cistern input. That way you are filtering out anything undesirable before it goes into the cistern, especially with a little one.

Our well guy recommended a 3 float system. Top float is the normal refill tank. Middle float is a problem warning, it should never get triggered. If it does you have time to get the well guy back out to fix while you still have water. Bottom float is the Oh No, shut off the pump to avoid burning it out.

I grew up with well water in Michigan. I had a lot of cavities until fluoride tooth paste came out. This was in the 1950s. I know the pump and pressure tank was in a well pit and that my Dad, Uncles, Grandpa and neighbors drove the well with a sledge hammer. They hooked up to municipal water when it came out and after that we just used the well pit as a tornado shelter a couple of times.

If that was my well I would not put in the pump without a safety line tied around it, so many people have a pump on the bottom of their well... tho they say the pump is full stainless sometimes that is not the case, and in your case if something happens to that pipe, or to the fitting cap of the pump, you will not be able to recover that pump.

Thanks for all of the thought process of the steps in building your home, My father was a well driller and I worked with him for some time. his explanation for the the clearing of a well is as fallows, the clay and other sediment washed in to the water sand from drilling he well clears up with in hours of pumping the well, as you continue pumping the well will bring up very small particles of sand, this will happen for some time may be weeks as the sand drawn in by the water. This will stop when the fine sand is filtered by the corser sand in the well creating a natural screen. Shocking your well is recommended as it will disinfect all of the wetted components of the well. To do this lift you temp cap off the well head, pour two or three gallons of house hold bleach down the well. Wash the bleach down the well with well water until you can smell the bleach at the hose. pump the well over your hill until the bleach smell and taste are acceptable to you then fill your system. I really enjoy your channel thanks again Richard from Spring Lake Alberta

Congrats on the well, and great video as always. The only thing that I can say bad about the well is you didn't put a torque arrestor on it just above the pump and no safety rope. I can't remember how many times I've had to help people replace their PVC pipe because the pump twisted itself clean off the pipe (broke it). As for the safety rope, I know y'all are only 80' deep, but if it breaks free it's going to the bottom and it's not fun to get it out.

While it may seem like overkill, I have a similar system in my home. As a prepper, I tend to overbuild everything with redundancy to ensure I have what I need no matter what goes wrong and if any single part goes bad. I have a well which feeds large holding tanks which then feed my house. Given the concern about the potential of contaminated water or even just occasional elements getting to the water which would contaminate the simply, I have a small system that injects the slightest bit chlorine into the stream between the well and the holding tanks. So I know the water in the holding tanks will remain bacteria free. So essentially, the holding tanks are always full and clear of bacteria. The pump in the well is triggered by a float in the tanks to refill when ever water gets siphoned off to the rest of the house. So the holding tanks have good turnaround. I then have a house pump, pressure thank and filtration system after the tanks to take care of pressure and cleanliness throughout the house. This gives me complete control over house pressure, storage, water softness and all else. Like I said, it’s way more than most have. But essentially your already most of the way to a system like this anyways.

Wonder if you could rig some type of filtration system to attach inline with your pump you currently use to get the water up the hill to the cistern tanks? Maybe a filter system like what is used in an above ground swimming pool or a hot tub. Whatever you would use you would want the filter to be replaceable easily. That would help keep the cistern tanks cleaner.

I built a well house over the well head that includes my generator connections for the well pump, the solar battery charger with batteries and the inverter and main breaker panel. The effect of the thermal load of charger and batteries is such that it never freezes inside the well house even when the temperature outside is near 0F. At that temperature, the propane doesn't want to flow very easily to the generator, but there are ways to manage that too. My water has iron too and you can definitely taste it. There is a bit of sediment, but the water in the last bucket definitely was good enough to pump to your cistern. Enjoy having unlimited water on site!

What, no torque arrestors (Torque Stop) at the pump?!!? It stops the pump from banging into side of the well when it tuns on. Seems like your pump guy wants to come back and replace your pump in a few years after it beats itself to death. My pump was put in 25 years ago with TWO of them (on at the pump and one about 3-4 feet above) and it has not had to be pulled yet.

Research check valves, valves on each section to be able to isolate each section or branch for convenience, and a vacuum breaker so you don't pull water from a section you don't desire to. After water test you will know whether you need filters or softener. When taking water test do not touch inside of container with anything but the water. Been there done that.

The driller should have told you you need to run the well for 24-48 hr for it to clear up. As a driller I always let them know that you have to clear the mud and sediment out of the water sand so that it pumps clear. Drilling disturbed the sand that the water runs through and makes a dirty hole so till you pump the dirty water out of the casing and the surrounding 2-3’ of sand around the casing it will be dirty. Yours cleared up fast.

Personally, i would put a couple of float switches in the tanks, they connect to a 'start stop' contactor, basically the pump starts when the level gets to about 1/4 full, and stops when it's full. This should reduce how much water STAYS in the tanks, what is left should mix with the fresh water, even the rush of water from one tank to the other (link pipe) should mix water in that tank..
