The elephant in the room is the Brandon is 32 and Jessilyn is 21. Jessilyn is trying to figure out how being an adult works, but she is making colossal mistakes. Brandon on the other hand has been an adult well over a decade now. Just hearing Jessilyn talk/explain her way through everything gives us a snapshot of what Brandon hears every time finances/money are discussed. He needs to wear the pants in the household and say "no". But he can't because he's got to spend money on his BS too. Yes, they have a kid (which makes this even worse but hopefully give them motivation) and Brandon has alimony for another kid (which makes this even worser). What's funny is they could have lived like this for years. It's took a major emergency (Jessilyn quitting her job AND car sales being in the bust phase for Brandon) to highlight the insanity. Hope they figure this out for the kid's sake.

There is no way his CS is $45 a month. He is claiming he makes ~120k a year. He probably owes a fuck ton in back CS..which means his wages can and will be garnished and/or he will go to jail. The back child support should have been high lighted and emphasized more as not only is it morally reprehensible, but being a dead beat dad will destroy him legally if his ex cares even a little bit. No drivers license, can't work anywhere that does even a basic background check, wages garnished and at worst he could land in jail with a criminal record. Paying the back child support should be priority one..full stop.

All that in 1 year together is INSANE. Immaturity is a huge problem here. She's 11 years younger than him. She was considered a kid like 3-4 years ago. She probably thought of the 120k a year income as being way more than it is. It IS a huge income for someone at 21 to have access to. I hate to point the finger at her so much... but her 60k SUV, her apple watch, the BABY's IPad (my kid's have $30 kindles), her $65 nail sets, her subscriptions.. She went crazy for an entire year. He didn't stop it. I assume he helped accrue it, it can't be all her. I'm not sure she really soaked all this in though. She came for help with solutions of her own to argue for and doesn't seem interested in getting rid of their biggest monthly expense... her extremely expensive car. I don't know any 21 year olds driving a 60k car, jeez. It was pretty amazing to air it all out for everyone. You gotta commend them for doing this. I wouldn't have the balls. I’m just so glad that I’m too chicken to buy a new car. I am currently driving a 2001 Toyota RAV4 with only 146,000 miles on it and only having paid $2500 for it back in 2017.

That assumes everything goes well and there are no complications. Most costs are paid by insurance if the mom has coverage, or welfare if the family is low income and the state has such a program. But if a woman has no job she has no employer provided insurance and can't pay for her own policy, and if she can't be added to her husband's plan or a parent's plan (someone has to pay those premiums) that's why medical loans happen.

As someone who's 26 and having to financially take care of their mother, it has DESTROYED me. And the guilt I feel about having to possibly cut her off is something I can't come to terms with. If I don't help her she would be literally homeless.

It's not fair that she is doing that to you. I'm so sorry. Not sure what your situation is but that seems really young though (She's what? In her 50s max?). If she can't work for some reason, I would be looking into government benefits like housing, Medicaid, etc. Otherwise, if she's making you be the parent, you unfortunately should be the parent. Like "get a job, adult-kid."

Omg this! My mom moved in with me when I was 31 and it damn near ruined my relationship with my husband and it put off us starting our family. It's awful and bc of this I have been putting in 8% into my retirement account and saving as much as possible to avoid this. Having to care for your parents bc they're broke and still can't change their spending habits is infuriating.

I noticed that and idk as a guy maybe I am off target with this but when I see long nice nails that kinda tells me you don't get down and do the hard dirty work around the house because that gets in the way of changing the baby, cooking, cleaning, etc. I am sure you can still do these things with nice long nails as long as they are not crazy long, but its going to make things way way more difficult. And if I have learned anything from people they are often not going the difficult route they are often taking the ez road aka not doing what they should be doing as a stay at home mom.

I can't get over that she quit work prior to getting paid maternity when they offered her a desk job instead of sales. That's sad. When your country has practically no social safety net, you HAVE to take benefits like that. There is no valid decision not to take that if you have no pregnancy complications. Forget the way your mother or grandmother did it. They lived in a completely different world.

I doubt some of this part of her story. She is 21 and the baby isn't brand new. It's old enough to have an ipad. So she was 19 or so and she was a car salesman with enough drive for them to want to keep her around. Doubtful.
