Thumbalina’s birth mom chose the perfect bed to have her babies. Otherwise, Thumbalina wouldn’t have survived for 8 yrs and still going strong. This is a very sweet story and thank you for taking such good care of her.

In the summer of 2019 it was sundown my husband called for me there was a baby squirrel beside my back porch the mother squirrel must have placed her there to be rescued so I rescued her I had her for a week she got constipated on me I thought she was going to die It's illegal in Massachusetts to have wildlife as pets I called my veterinarian to get wildlife rehabilitator I got in touch with wildlife rehabilitators I met them and I passed off the baby squirrel they took care of her and she survived they sent me pictures of her It's the best feeling in the world when you're able to rescue a helpless animal Thank you for rescuing Thumbelina She is just the cutest thing ever god bless you all

So true. Respect for all living things comes from being raised by kind parents that teach this to their kids. Being selfish and abusive is from a lack of values and morals. This is such a sweet and unusual story ! I love squirrels......I have had a lot of interactions with them over the years. I fed a cat colony for years that lived in a wooded area. In addition to cats, there were a lot of squirrels so I always had peanuts. I used a rollator to walk my supplies to my little group. While I was feeding the cats the squirrels would open the rollator and help themselves to peanuts. They are very smart ! We TNR'd the cats and eventually placed them all. ❣

I do understand the love you can give to a little squirrel. Years ago I raised one. I had to teach it to jump from branch to branch. My adult male cat kept her warm when she was a baby. Long story short to explain how my cat took care of my little Nutkin. Finally in later summer after I felt she was ready to go off on her own. I drove to the country to my mother’s house to release her. When I went to Moms, I’d call her. She would come running to me. Each year she would stay further away from me until she stopped coming. I still miss her 45 years later.

What very special people you are. I'm so happy that Thumbalina found such supportive, compassionate parents. I've always had 4 adopted cats since moving out on my own, (I had PLENTY of space - a Manhattan loft). My NYC friends who knew that I've volunteered w/ animals at the Humane Society on E. 59th since my teens, labelled me odd. If they chose to distance themselves, it was OK with me. I hope you never have had to hear "but she's a rodent" or any other ignorant comments. And, yes, these little ones do become your kids. You have hearts as big as the sky, & I'm especially happy that you share the same passion. Many good things to you three 😊.

Had a co work who raised infant squirrels abandoned or injured in cooperating with our wildlife refuge. Many days,Carol would come in on her day off to show us her new baby snuggled in a cloth shoulder bag. Absolutely precious these little ones are as Thumbelina! Great job mom & dad❤❤❤❤

I rescued a squirrel. She opened her eyes to me. I fed her every few hours until she was able to eat on her own. She Blessed my life for 10 years. I miss her. She was unreleasable or I never would have kept her. They do not make good house pets. She was litter trained for urine but like other rodents they dropped their pellets where and whenever. Even though she had plenty of branches and toys to chew on. She still liked the woodwork. She was Absolutely worth it. Just don't watch or hear these stories and go get a squirrel and think it's a good "pet". They should be wild Unless they're not able to be. ❤️🐿️

What an unusual story about a squirrel. Parents are terrific w all their patience and who knew you could train a squirrel! I just checked and Thumbelina could live to 15yrs old in the wild. With such loving TLC she will surely live a lot longer.
