Such a good crossroads song. This and the next one. He really could have chosen different in either of those songs and had his entire life change for the better.

His life might well have had a better end if he'd made a different decision here, but his decision to stay and try to get his plan through Congress was probably not a bad decision in itself. The world we live in would be very, very different if he had not gotten that plan passed, and it was something he'd invested a lot of time and energy into. The NEXT decision you refer to, well, that's another story.
