I was just introduced to ST a week ago, getting a new tattoo. The artist was running through a ST playlist on Spotify while she worked. WOW, I've been obsessed ever since! Another band she turned me on to...Conception. They're another prog metal band, kind of a mix of Dream Theater and old Alcatrazz (with Yngwie Malmsteen.) Vocalist is the old vocalist from Kamelot. Fantastic stuff!

Sleep Token are one of those bands where people fall into 3 categories: They instantly love it, instantly hate it, or it takes a few listens to grow on you until you love it. I know I have said this in Nightwish reactions, but you need to show Ash some Epica. It's basically Nightwish, but heavier and leaning more on the duelity of topics.

My reaction is very much like hers haha. I like it when they get heavy and a lot of times it’s just a bit too sobby for some reason. Not sure how else to describe it haha. I respect it a lot and it’s a journey for sure but just hits me more when it has some heavy bits.

Its literally pop music with some chugging riffs thrown in. I can appreciate the music, but its just too pretentious for me. Its also kind of generic or way too similar to other bands. And don't even get me starting on the friggin' costumes and lore. For that reason alone I don't like them.

The world is full on individuality and that's what makes it great! Be damn boring if everyone liked the same bands the same music. And that individuality hits every corner... Example: Your missus loves Will Ramos - Lorna shore and their music but not so keen (if at all) on Sleep Token and their music, But Sleep Token is Will Ramos's favorite band! He's a huge fan boy of Vessel lol. That's how the world turns :)

I think you're right, you kind of have to listen to the album as a whole otherwise the genre switches and kind of artsy nature of each song feels disjointed. It's not a concept album in the sense of all the songs flowing and fitting together and following a theme, but at least the fact that every song is quite different makes some kind of sense.

I feel like without the slow bits it would be nothing but a generic chugging metal band and we have plenty of those yuh know? the slow bits that allow the breath in the song make the chugs hit in a way that’s so satisfactory that without the slow bit I don’t think it would feel the same

Totally agree with the ladies reaction. This is a masterpiece, but god do I wish they made an entire metal song. I like all the other genres included as well but the metal bits are so goddamn powerful and end a bit too fast for me to release all the energy
