I had something similar happen to a tenant of mine several years ago. I had a small, low income mobile home park at the time. The company they hired left their trailer on a side street a block from the park. With a broken axle and two tires missing. I felt a certain responsibility since they were coming into the parks as new tenants and had ran out of money. I paid to have brought on into the park and they paid it out along with their pad rent.

One of the guys working for me down in Houston said someone had given him a free mobile home. All he had to do was to move it. I was skeptical, so offered to go look at it and give him my opinion. The frame was rusted through in several places (this is close to the coast where salt air corrodes everything) and lots of the framing was rotted. I told him to pass on it, because he'd never get it to it's destination in one piece. He reluctantly took my advice, but apparently someone else took it. A few days later it was sitting in the road just a block from where it was originally...broke in half! Now the new "owner" was financially responsible for cleaning up the mess!

The original axles and hitch are often long gone and the mover will supply some when it's time to go. Obviously I dunno if that's what happened here or not though.

This is the most intelligent comment in here. Many people are not understanding that the mobile home IS the trailer. It looked pretty rusted out and just broke from the weight of all their stuff and rolling down a road. The moving company should have done an assessment before they agreed to move it. In addition, tires were rotted.
These monsters who do this to people need to be held accountable for the damage and loss of their home. God works miracles! You both will be blessed with another home in Jesus name!
@phantomduck65 Жыл бұрын
Why was it being moved fully furnished All the extra weight is probably what caused it to break
@dosmundos3830 Жыл бұрын
It's definitely what caused it to break. I've seen many homes in worse shape than that moved...empty.

Unfortunately there's a huge market for trailer haul movers. Especially affordable ones. They likely have many customers lined up and theyve likely caused a great deal of damage to other trailers. A 16 year old trailer is structurally vulnerable and requires an expensive process to safely move.

I think a lot of people are being mislead by this news lady saying "The moving company's trailer broke" ...it wasn't the moving company's trailer, it was the frame of the house trailer that broke so for those that don't understand, the people's house fell apart when someone they hired tried to move it, how is that the issue of the moving company other than the fact they tried moving something that wasn't structurally sound enough to be moved
@WilldoAldone Жыл бұрын
I bought a 1959 mobile home and paid to have it moved which cost $2800. The moving company told me up front, If it cannot withstand moving, we will have no choice but to unhitch it and leave it on road. They also said it must be empty of furniture and appliances to keep it as light as possible. Moving companies are not responsible if the home breaks because of age and condition while moving, so please have the mobile home checked out to see if it can stand being moved before you pay a company to move it. There are no refunds, if it breaks while in transport and will abandoned it on road, because they cannot fix it.
@JNisHIScr8n Жыл бұрын
The professionals know this like you yet still made the attempt. This does make them liable. If a repair person comes to your home to fix something and creates a bigger problem unrelated to the service needed are they not liable? If a person can sue a dry cleaner for damages, these people have a solid case. If the moving company did tell the owners to empty out the house, then they are only partly responsible.

Many years ago we had a mobile home moved across town that had been in one spot for many years. It made the trip just fine. We were never asked to unload our belongings. They just gave us some helpful hints such as, place the lamps in the bathtub with bed pillows to keep them from breakage and secure all cabinets with breakables. I'm pretty sure mobile homes are sold with the appliances already in them and most of the time they're fully furnished. I've never heard of having to remove your belongings to move them that's a new one on me. Maybe things have changed your maybe none of you ever had and experiences with mobile homes. Sounds like a lot of wealthy people in here. I can't believe how people are calling them cheap and saying bad things about them. I'm sure they're doing the best they can. This is a very unfortunate situation.

Doesn't the house sit on the trailor and tires all the time? Was it the movers trailor or the homeowners? And if it was the homeowners trailor attached to the house, why is it the movers responsibility that it was old, rusty and weak?

It was not the moving company's trailer. The mobile home frame broke and if you just look you can see it was in horrible condition and should have never been allowed on the streets in it's condition. The trailer tires were old.

After moving a mobile home a few times. The moving company failed in its inspection to see if the house was sound enough to move. Just looking at it, there was no bracing. I'm betting the floor decking was rotted and the exterior walls collapsed through it onto the floor joists and all that damaged the tires and the hitch. In other words the house should never have been moved. The moving company needs to pay the customer the 1,600$ and the city for cleanup. If you need to move a home you MUST have it inspected for structural intergrity either professionally or by someone experienced in home construction.
@mryeahisaidit Жыл бұрын
The truck did not damage the house . The house broke its own frame which doubles as a trailer hint why they are called trailer homes . He's not liable for structural failure caused by the homeowners trailer. Their lucky he's not charging them for any damages 🤔🤔 Still a messed up situation to be in , best of luck to them
@dosmundos3830 Жыл бұрын
The mover knew it was overweight because it was full of contents. Mobile home frames are designed to transport the home empty, truck frames are designed to haul the household contents. He would have never made it through a weigh scale.
@JNisHIScr8n Жыл бұрын
The movers are souly responsible. They're supposed to be the professionals. They should have inspected the home, made sure the owners emptied content ( if necessary), they should have made sure there was no structural problems like rot etc . They were the ones who should have known better. 100% liable
