Völundr Frey It's what I have seen from observing people. Most of my male acquaintances, friends, or family members have ended relationships and marriages immediately after the wife or SO cheated. On the other hand, I have seen women take the man back even if they split up for a little time. Note I said MOST men, not all. The ones that do take the girlfriend or wife back are in the minority. The wife has a better shot at forgiveness IF they have children,and as sick as it is, I've seen the guy who takes the wife back "get even" if you know what I mean.

+ladynottingham89 well sadly I learned the hard way. I had an ex girlfriend cheated on me with my best friends who told me and I didn't believe them. She admitted that she "kissed" one and I was like "k". And more recently I had an ex boyfriend who cheated on me that I know of at least five other people in the short time we were together. I took him back several times. But I do agree with you, but I think it has a lot to do with how society looks at woman.

Because marriage is being touted as the ultimate fix-all for most relationship problems. Nearly half of marriages fail because of cheating, and marriage isn't always about love. I'm personally getting tired of people being so preachy about marriage. What works for you may not work for someone else. I've seen many commited relationships where there are no marriages. Being married doesn't mean that he/she won't cheat, and that ring isn't going to protect you from it anymore than religion will! And yes I have been married before, but he passed away. You can very well have a loving commitment filled relationship without that ring, which is really only a symbol.

The problem I see with cheating partners isn't only the act of cheating (which is hurtful enough!) but also that cheating seems to be their solution to solving an issue with their partner. So instead of talking, they are looking for someone else to fulfill their needs. And until he (in this case) isn't learning to change his behavior (with the help of a counselor), this is going to happen again, next time there appears an issue in the relationship.
