Absolutely staged to some extent. There are even court shows that totally scripted with actors(case in point: America's Court, which is presided over by Kevin Ross. Ross was removed from the bench as a judge & disbarred as a lawyer so, he got himself a TV show!) But shows like Couples Court, Paternity Court, Judge Mathis & Divorce Court are still legit...even if they stage them a bit. You're seeing actual people going through actual heartbreak.
