@@Rudgged there are plenty of other skincare companies that have blue light products too. Rae thought the research she saw RFLCT do was revolutionary and worth supporting. She probably also advocated for affordability and unisex properties of the products because she knows accessibility is important to her community. Honestly, CellularMD sells a blue light serum for 125.00 and has been for a while. Higher Education also has a blue light blocking moisturizer. Even ColourPop Cosmetics has a serum addressing blue light. I don’t think Rae’s decision was solely based on blue light protection, I think she saw the research they were doing, thought it was important to share with the gaming community, and got behind RFLCT because they wanted her to help create a product to address the issues they found in their independent research. I understand that we may not get to know what that research was and that frustrates both Rae and us, but if we’re going to attack Rae based on RFLCT then we should attack all the other skincare companies promoting the same or similar anti-blue light benefits.

I think the big thing with Rae and the RFLCT product is that we expect the nonsense and lies coming from big companies. One of the reasons why KZbinrs and streamers have gotten so big, is because people tend to see someone that is just like them, and want to prop them up because they feel they can trust them. You create a bond with your audience. People will see through bullshit, especially coming from sources they trust and "know" or invest so much time into. They go in trusting that person more so when a streamer attaches their name and brand to a product, you need to do every thing possible to ensure it's a standup company, a product that's legit. It isn't new for audiences to see through bullshit products being propped up by streamers to get a bag.

The reason why the whole Rae & RFLCT situation was so big and why the internet reacted to it in such a way isn't just because people wanted to target her (Tho ofc some people would have been doing that and were doing it for impressions) but because Rae made it out to be a big deal She said she worked on it for 2 years and was excited to announce it. She endorsed the product and her Twitter said she was the Co-Founder of RFLCT. She made out she was heavily involved in it but then when we saw the whole Blue Light damaging skin, it made people's heads turn, and so when it was clear as day that the whole Blue Light Protection was a lie, it seemed like a "scam" and made people question what Rae's intentions were, especially since her Twitter bio said she's the Co-Founder Valkyrae seems like a really genuine person, however we don't know her in person / irl. There's plenty of people who seem genuine but turn out to be fake or manipulative. Rae is the last person you'd think would pull a "scam" so it was shocking. RFLCT was (and still is) looking dodgy, so we're left thinking did this company mislead Rae and is taking advantage of her or is Rae in on it? When Rae tweeted an audio note, one of the partners at RFLCT replied to it with an incredibly tone deaf tweet. From that point, it became obvious that RFLCT is taking advantage of Valkyrae and she most likely got mislead and believed everything they told her about the product, including the false information on blue light I feel bad for Rae, but hopefully she learns from this. Not to be so naive and pretty much blindly trust someone / a company when they could be dodgy

I love Rae, but the problem with what happened was they claimed there were studies to support their reasoning but it was never on the website. If you say you have the study show me dont hide it. If they never said "hey we have studies to prove xyz" I dont think anyone wouldve cared. Rae explained why they couldn't, which is why she wants out. The company claims that they needed to get the research trademarked/patented before making it public, as they were afraid of it being stolen, which isn't the best look because no company should do their own studies if they have a monetary interest in its success. From top to bottom, it was a shit-show. An overblown shit-show, but one nonetheless.
