I always figured the Queen of the Black Puddle was a siren, that would explain why she only went after Eustace. Sirens entranced sailors, who were always men, to them so they could kill them

You know what I like about this while also not really understanding? Somehow, having Eustace around of all people makes Muriel happy. It doesn't really make any sense, but at the same time, that's enough for Courage to risk his life to save him. Granted the concept is a little muddled up when in other episodes, Eustace gets taken due to stubbornness and stupidity and Muriel just wonders where he went. I know this incident is framed as fatal but some of the others are fates worse than death. I guess it's because this time it's not really his fault. Something actively targeted him without provocation.
