Ok very clear explanation but for a simulator how would you find the course? Would ATC give you the wind direction at clearance for takeoff and you enter that wind direction into course?

Hi, I'm on the mfs2020 xbox and flying the a320. I'd like to better understand the heading and track thing: 1) So track = course correct? 2) in the a320, for approach, I use Track FPA for descent on VOR approaches. This means I'm using flight path angle to descent and tracking a course. But can we use track function without FPA to correct for wind? IF I put FPA 0°? 3) Or should I just calculate wind correction angle and insert that corrected course as my Heading?
@PILOTCLIMB Жыл бұрын
It's all correct, if you fly Tracks you are taking the wind into consideration already

Thank you. I have one more question. I'm flying a straight in VOR approach for landing with Track FPA. In real life, what's the distance to landing you'd typcally switch off the AP and hand fly the airplane? I was also wondering what the aircraft would do if I'm in the same VOR config for landing, AP on, with track FPA mode and if change the heading? Same if I'm now in AP off, VOR Track FPA mode for VOR approach and change heading? Many thanks

Hi great video aviator,you are a lovely person as well... Regarding the video: 1. Is the course the same as track?I think they are. 2. I did not understand the last concepts of the video, it was kind of fast and the concept at the end was not that clear for me I believe 3.Does the plane correct for the wind always or the plane flies the course by itself. 4. Why does the heading stay the same if we have a crosswind ( I agree that the course or track changes since the vector of wind and the heading give the course vector) but isn't there a sideforce in your example 090° wind coming from the right thar causes a moment on the head of the airplane( also known as heading) that changes the head direction?...hope it is clear. Cheers mate👍🏻🖐🏻

Hey, many thanks for you great comment! Track and course the same. Some autopilots are able to fly courses, some not. The wind doesn't produce a bit heading change moment since its force is spread throughout the whole plane. I hope I answered your questions!

This is something I've never fully understood. As a simmer, I just ignore the course because the point A and point B vary all the time. Say you will follow about ten wayponts to the destination, the are not lined up straight towards the destination runway, so your heading will change all the time. However, you change heading, but not course (on the couse selector) or should you? Sometimes heading change is too quick and changing course with it takes a lot of time. My question has always been whether you should change course as you change heading or it's end goal is to be "chased" in order to reach the destination runway properly lined up. I never noticed the auto pilot changing the course as the heading changes either, so if that happens, I never paid attention to it.

Hey, I hope you are doing great!! The if you have to fly to a point (which could be a waypoint or your destination) you need to set the right track. The track should remain constant and the heading changes if the wind direction/intensity changes. Let me know if I have answered your question. I wish you a great day!

@@PILOTCLIMB Thanks. But if you are flying IFR and ATC assigns you a new heading, should you set the course to that new heading and then change the heading itself or do you just follow the heading (use the heading knob only)? My question is if you should change the course all the time. If you are holding a pattern, for example, you will have constant direction changes. Should you set the course to the new flight path at all times then (especially with wind component)?

Stupid question but is track and course the same thing?
@PILOTCLIMB Жыл бұрын
It's not a stupid question, practically you can think of them as the same, however the course is what you follow with your track..

Hi Gabriel. A bit out of topic but I wanted to know your feeling about the situation we are currently living in the aviation industry. As you are a pilot, I would like to ask if you see any sign of improvement or foresee any positive sign. Thanks a lot, curious about your opinion (if you are allowed to share it)

Hey, the situation is getting better, some airliners are recruiting and there are more flights however, the present pandemic is so unpredictable that the situation could change very quickly for the best or for the worse. Finger crossed!!

Heading error signal used in the Heading select mode : A) is the difference between the desired Heading and the actual Heading. B)is the difference between the desired course and the actual course. C) comes direct from compass system.
