I wonder if she made it to the end, or whether she got so close and died with end in sight. I hope she made it, but I suppose we'll never know. 😢 What a warrior, regardless. RiP, Mother-Abs.

I’ve experienced this in a race before…it was like a migraine. Right before a big climb I got tunnels vision and basically could only see my hand and arms slight vision of the trail and my feet. Took about 8 miles for it to return to normal.

The national media and therefore general public isn’t paying attention to ultra running or ultra runners. The big 3 sports in the US pay top athletes millions a year but the games fill stadiums selling 10 dollar beers and sell tv ads for millions x 10. Yet none of those athletes in any of those sports has the toughness and endurance of someone like Courtney. Interestingly back in the 1800’s ultra runners performed indoors to large crowds and winners made large sums of money. These indoor races still exist (6 Day in the Dome for example) but the public interest in mass just isn’t there.

Yet, she will probably not take anything from it. Too humble to, for example, acknowledge her VO2max being elite and she runs on feeling alone; doesn't even measure her heart rate (or pay attention to it whenever she does wear a watch).
