I think part of this issue is that people turned 'dating standards' into wishlists and don't realize that they did so. Being "average" nowadays has such a negative connotation on it when the reality is that most people are average everyday people. You can be a confident person while recognizing you're just a person with real problems and life issues like the next man, but everybody it seems is more focused on being "high value" when, if everyone was "high value" then the term wouldn't exist. Even that phrase is poorly defined nowadays with everyone giving it their own spin, but being a "high value" person is simply about being someone with character, morals, and being someone who provides value to those around you and your community. It's not about the luxury and wealth or the look of a celebrity, but about what you do for others and how you carry yourself as a person.

Those traits are not easily measured, especially for capitalistic or entertainment purposes. The term "high value" is not poorly defined; it is poorly measured. The dominant culture MEASURES "high value" according to money making or entertainment traits: number of followers, beauty, luxury items acquired, status job, physique, etc. If you can't become a brand within the dominant culture, they have measured you as not high value. I have been following this channel for like 2 years or so and Courtneys videos was what finally got me to put relationships on the shelf... To finally stop hoping that "the right woman" would show up. Most of the things she has said, I already knew or suspected, and some things actually shocked me, but I really can't stand modern dating. I think the whole “having a checklist” and “my man should earn this, should be this tall etc” is the dumbest thing. Having a good/lasting relationship is 99.9% love based. A feeling. Not materialism or anything else. Ofc do I have my preferences, but experience proved me wrong many times. On some occasions I encountered woman that did not fit my “preferences” at all, but I fell bigtime for them. And once you get that feeling that your heart is about the burst, butterflies in your stomach, and wanting to do everything for that person, anything else doesn’t matter anymore. Money doesn’t matter, looks don’t matter, even some personality traits that might be perceived “not attractive” don’t matter. If that feeling is mutual, you have won the jackpot. People these days are so delusional, and are only following their checklists. Those relationships are doomed to fail a lot of the times, or many are unhappy in the relationship they are in. No surprise the divorce rate is skyrocketing these days.

So they are pulling out the big old scale and are trying to weigh the pro's and con's in a logical way. This will result in the "below average", "average", "above average", "supreme" etc. labels. To add to that, anyone that has made a lot of money knows that money can flow nice and easy, it can also go up in a puff of smoke, a big part of making good money is taking risks and sometimes those risks don't work out. My bigger point is that finding somebody that makes a million dollars a year today does not mean they will make that much 20 years from now, 10 years from now or even 1 year from now. Picking a long term partner based on the amount of money they make is a probably not going to survive the long term.

70k a year is like lower level income depending on the city you live in. Some of these cities have such insane cost of living that a higher yearly salary thats not high enough becomes a bit of a trap- Your working class doing quite well, but then suddenly the little things that you would've qualified for that could help you live get taken away.... and THEN your paying hidden taxes on top of that. Narcassistic individuals who overcompensate for their own average qualities by amassing things for status. A lot of people posting this kind of stuff are plastic, not real and they need the status that comes with money to feel good about themselves. It is proof positive that how we feel about ourselves directly effects how we treat others and what we expect of them. If we have a good amount of self esteem, we will be realistic in our appraisal of ourselves, and our expectations of others. For me, when I’ve seen videos showing young women talking about how much their husband will need to make, it doesn’t so much make me think the women are gold-diggers-although those undoubtedly exist in the population. Rather, the statements make me think that they are simply part of the overwhelming parts of the population that are economically illiterate. That’s not just young women, it’s not just women, it’s EVERYONE. I hear people all throughout every day demonstrating 100% illiteracy in economic matters, and that’s what I tend to think is happening in most of these videos. We all need grace in our lives from time-to-time, and that means not just that we each need forgiveness from others, but that we need to not automatically assign the worst possible motivations to people when they need grace from us.

I so relaxed when I started seeing myself and others as being the sum of our parts. I have qualities that are below average and a few that I honestly believe are above average. I stopped dwelling on my below average areas and don't brag on my above ones. I can find the same in anyone if I look hard enough. No perfect people. Thank you Courtney for this video. I am missing an aspect, though. I think people are already delusional, when they believe that possessions make them happy or make their relationship last. Women often want to decorate themselves with a high class man in the pursuit of some kind of competition, instead of wanting to care and be there for someone else and spend their time with a person. It ends up being about showing off how flashy they are by having and doing expensive stuff. It stems from a sick and shallow society. There is also the expectation, that the money a man makes is to be spent on the woman. First and foremost, it's his money. Social media and thirsty men have caused a lot of this IMO. Women can get endless attention not even leaving the house when they turn on filters and take special angled pictures and make themselves look like an unrealistic version of themselves and guys in the comments drool all over them. Such an important vid Courtney! I have been realizing how judgement of myself and others is the toxicity itself. Accepting myself and others as they are is the healing agent that actually empowers me and then others around me to the aspiring heights we all are shooting for… division is exactly that… it divides and keeps us from connecting with others. As I’ve done the work on my self, life has looked so much fuller, rich and intriguing, and what do you know… I feel like I’m surrounded by many beautiful people. That’s not toxic positivity, that’s clearing out the blocks of hurt within me to see myself/others clearly… and then Enjoy it All! Life can be hard, but we will get there together. I think it was still pretty simple around 10 years ago. Back in 2014 when dating apps were a thing but not a norm. I remember that tinder was sort of embarassing back then and it was for people who are too clumsy to connect with others irl. 🤔
