You should bring Aymen too and ask her pov as a daughter what she goes through because I feel like all the things that you guys are unpacking mostly point towards sons. As a daughter, I think things are different and difficult, and it would be great to have that therapy session too.

I think your mum is balanced. You can't deny that she's desi but also adopted the modern thought process. She may come across as over powering, HOWEVER the fact thay you can openly talk about your feelings and views is a huge step in the right direction. Kudos to her!! Mash'aa'Allah

Wajeeh, I am a mom of grown up kids and I totally agree with you that your mom is typical a desi mother. Your mom should understand that she can’t do the same as how her parents raised her.

Not ‘you are done, like popcorn you will be pop pop popping’ 😭😂 love this podcast, you guys bring such a refreshing take as a mother son duo and it’s so awesome to be able to relate to so many aspects haha. I shared the ‘why Asian parents don’t let us go out’ episode with my own mum and she put it on the family group chat 🤣 Thankyou for your hard work and for showing up! During dark times it’s been great to find some light relief through these episodes ❤

This is so interesting to watch. I am a regular watcher and I have noticed something. I grew up in the west (Europe) although my parents are quite like mama jee and I am more open minded, after I had my child I am more thinking like mama jee and my parents. It makes a lot more sense now. I know I can’t control my child and I will never do that but the time we live in right now I can’t do anything but worry all the time about him and his future. So I just wanted to say.. mama jee you do you❤

All the topics covered in Chai talks episodes are so interesting and sometimes we can’t discuss about them with our parents because they’re not open minded. Also, I have to say it’s so hard to find a guy like Wajeeh so well raised and well-mannered. If my husband ain’t like Wajeeh, I don’t want him 😂

It is an arranged marriage where you meet someone through family or friends and you have a say in it. Forced marriage is when you don’t have a say in it and love marriage is when you find one on your own and fall in love and don’t care abt your parents or anyone’s opinion.

I agree with Wajeeh on the issue of marrying your cousin. First cousins are like brother and sister and should be respected as such. In the olden days people married cousins to either to keep the wealth within the families or to secure a good stable home as the families knew each other. Not to judge, but it is not a good decision to marry your cousin for medical reasons.

Marrying to cousins in the past would've worked, but i also saw families break up once the marriage broke, i believe its better not to marry to relatives, if it doesn't work out it can impact on generations to come especially where kids are involved. Marrying from a totally different culture etc has its ups/downs too but if marriage doesn't work out atleast it won't effect the rest of the family. Plus with relatives we have very high expectations that they will be happy, thats not the case, you see the real faces of relatives after marriage 😔 ofcourse not everyone is the same but most are like that.

I am in my late 40s and have no kids. I have been married twice My mum is in her 70s and feels I shouldn't get married again, that is her mindset. I personally think it's too late now as I am too old to have kids now. I have 2 brothers and a sister they are all happily married with children. I still live with my parents. I go to work and stay at home. People I think are my friends they are not, therefore, not got any social circle to enjoy. Mama jee, what do you think?

Most white ppl start their lives in their 40's you should try to look for a good spouse and get married, don't let your age stop you. Keep praying and use this time to also get closer to Allah swt....Ask Allah swt to grant you what's best for your Deen and dunya. May Allah swt bless you sister and keep you content in life Ameen 🤲❤️

@24:00 i completely disagree with this, 😆 There's so many real-life stories, and I've even witnessed it with my own eyes, where blood families become worse enemies than outsiders. This all comes down to a person's niyat and how consciously they live their life.
