One of the best games I went to, in the West Terrace, Cyrille's winner still makes me smile.

I was there. Awesome game ... one end to the other. Both sides throwing caution to the wind in the last 10 minutes. Tottenham must have hated the sight of Benno and Houchen that season. Big Cyrille’s determination for the winner too. PUSB

Yes, and nearly another spectacular headed goal by Houchen @ 2:08 just before Benno scores.

I took my quite reserved doctor brother in law to this game, he loved it, you can just see him running on to the pitch after Cyrille scored the winner !

I never knew of this game. How many coincidences with the Cup Final. Spurs have kit issues Spurs take the lead Houchen scores a bullet header I have watched the 1987 Cup Final loads when I was growing up but I never knew it wasn't even the best Coventry Spurs game that season

I think this was the first live match I was taken to a kid by my Dad - I would have been 6 but don't really remember much apart from leaving early to avoid the crowds getting out (nice one Dad!) and missing the last couple of goals! I remember them winning however as we heard the cheers go up!

I suspect that Tottenham brought their third kit which the referee wasn't happy with. They had a navy third kit that season, had they white shirt been brought it wouldn't have required navy socks.
@archie5925 жыл бұрын
If I remember rightly they wore Coventry's away shirt with Spurs shorts.

Seeing Cyrille in blue and white stripes but not the Albion is so sad. We should never have sold him. He should have started and finished his career at Albion. But then he would never have won anything I suppose.
@jamiew16643 жыл бұрын
as a cov fan i hear ya, but im glad you never got that wish (in a nice way). not many players stay at one club their whole career do they... im trying to think who has? gerrard is maybe the only one that springs to mind although im sure theres lots
@d.c.harrison66562 жыл бұрын
@@jamiew1664 Giggs, Scholes and Gary Neville spring to mind too. Carragher at Liverpool, Tony Adams at Arsenal, le Tissier at Southampton. Going further back, you can have Jack Charlton at Leeds, George Cohen at Fulham and Nat Lofthouse at Bolton. United were in for Regis in early '86, but there were question marks over his medical and we took Terry Gibson instead. A disaster of a move in two ways - would have loved to have seen big Cyrille in a United shirt.
