The craziest part about Nerissa's covers is that they don't sound like covers. It just sounds like that's how the song was meant to be sung. Most of the songs she sings I don't know beforehand, and without the context, it's so professionally sung that I would just assume that's the original version. She truly is remarkable

well yea, i mean if you don't know the original song, of course it would sound like that's 'how it was meant to be sung'. kind of a weird comment you really didn't think that one through. by all means, celebrate her beautiful voice and the quality of production. but don't you discount all her hard work by saying they don't sound like covers. that's such a weird statement to make if you "dont know" beforehand.

This here is am agreeable take. As a hiphop artist, one of my main goals myself is just to make first and foremost a set of lyrics that sounds like it fits the beat given. Nerissa, like me, has the skill I call "Tutorial Performer", the ability to just get on the instrumental and be like "here's an excellent example of how you should handle it." Outside of my weird way of explaining this, good goodness this track is beautiful

@@housemana I think I understand what moohooman meant though. There is this feeling you can feel quite often with cover song that 'something is not right' even if you don't know the song before hand. It's something about the style doesn't really fit the singer or they're trying to sing in a way that's not natural to them; idk, I'm no singer so I can't really put my finger on it. But with Nerissa, she can 'take over' the song to be hers. And this is not the first song that I assumed it was one of her originals. To be fair, this one is quite a popular song so I noticed some familiarity about half way through, but for less well known songs, there are times I don't notice even after many times listening to it. In fact, there's a reverse situation for a song in my country. It's an original song for a teen drama sang by the lead actor & actress. The original song wasn't half bad, especially when you consider they are not professional singer; and the drama was popular, so the song got popular, too. But this song was made in the style of a certain group that was very famous some years ago, and one day, the group did a cover of it. Boy, they completely took over the song to be their own. I think this is at least somewhat an indicator to the quality of the singer who can do this and it's worth praising.

​@@ws.hicks0214 yeah, especially when you're familiar with the singer's original music, there's definitely an indefinable quality that their cover songs often have. Like you can tell they're trying to sound a particular way instead of just doing what comes naturally (even if they do it well) Re: covers that replace the originals, that's somewhat famously what happened with All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. It got covered by Jimi Hendrix, and supposedly Bob Dylan liked his version so much he forever changed the way he performed it live to be more in line with Hendrix's version

What makes Rissa's songs/covers so special isn't her vocal range, nor is it that she does this professionally. What makes it so insanely pleasant to listen to her singing is the amount of emotions Rissa puts into her songs and the fact that you can clearly hear 'em out at any time. You always create such an intense atmosphere that it is hard not to recall all the adventures I've experienced in books and anime. This one especially reminded me of Spice and Wolf where I travelled through the deep snow towards the north to bring Holo home. Thank you for all the hard work you do and for sharing it with us.
