A few things to keep in mind. You are not dealing with a decent human being, you are dealing with a miserable creature. When you are negotiating they are pretending to negotiate (they are totally convincing). They 'enjoy' a negative response just as much as a positive one, but they hate a levelheaded emotionless response as they need to be able to press your buttons. And one of the most destructive things is that they prefer a lose-lose scenario to a scenario where you win.

Wow, that was amazing. You not only hit the nail on the head, but you summed it up so that it was super easy to relate to. And I always appreciate intelligent (and I don't mean that to be condescending towards absolutely anyone) people who are kind enough to post knowledge whether through experience, or books, etc. to help out others like me that really need and can use it!

“Don’t react, because that is exactly what they want you to do.” I learned this after a few years of living together as common-law. One day, he made mention to me about how our next-door female neighbour had lost weight. I agreed with him. He then said, “Wait..... Is that one of those things I’m not supposed to notice?” I shrugged my shoulders and said, “I don’t care.” He smiled and said, “Are you going to get a complex now?” I said, “Nope.” Then continued reading my book. He sat still for awhile, hummed, looked around, then eventually just left the living room. We are no longer together.

After lying in bed after returning home from my nieces babies funeral which I went alone to. I had tears rolling after she said a prayer. Immediately after the prayer, she turned her back and made a point of moving away and fell asleep. She falls off in a few minutes , I take 30. I spoke to her about it and she said " I thought you were asleep " No empathy. Just doing what she thinks needs to be done or learned.

I want to thank you for all your videos. I'm disabled and trapped with a covert narcissist. I know why she is why she is, it comes from very bad parenting by her narcissistic, dismissive and abusive parents. It took me almost 25 years to pinpoint it, and although I'm pretty resilient mentally and emotionally, it's a daily game of tip toe through a mine field, it gets exhausting. Your videos are helping me cope with my situation immensely. Thank you.

This explains so much. I was confused how my ex could seem narcissistic without the grandiose behaviours. “Insidious” is exactly how I describe him. He behaved in a meak and quiet way, he made himself seem like a poor innocent victim of his ex and his parents. He pretended to be loyal and progressive and kind. But it was manipulation. For years!! We were friends for years before dating. I had no idea and was completely blind-sided by his true self when we dated.

Sounds a lot like my ex-wife. Here's some more stuff that I experienced, things to watch out for. Extremely unemotional- like she never cared about anything, nothing really touched her. Nothing I ever did was good enough- that tired/bored/disappointed look was on 24/7. Never gave (returned, actually) any of those little love gestures, like a whisper in the ear or a stroke on the back. Badmouthed most people from her past, with special emphasis on ex-boyfriends. A very persuasive liar at first, but never able to sustain or stick to the story after you get suspicious and start factchecking. Wouldn't talk in depth about anything- 2-3-4 short sentences on just about any subject, even those of importance to her. Unable to admit guilt or apologize and extremely intolerant of criticism. Altough posessing animal magnetism (smell, movement, voice tone), still passive in bed, never got intimate or passionate, never wanted to talk about sex. Although she tried to hide all this in the initial stages of our relationship, a lot would pop out because deep inside narcissists despise you so much that they think you are not even worth a truly hard faking effort on their part

I read it months ago and it seemed like every time I spoke up, he took a step back, got quiet/distant/acted different.. then when approached denied doing so.. said he was just tired. It got way worse towards the end. I started detaching and he would tit for tat, avoid my presence, and devalue me like crazy. He did mean things behind my back, swore he’d make it all up to me but didn’t. I left for my own well-being and his excuse for acting cold and angry was “ I wasn’t talking to him” “we both weren’t talking”. False, I was trying to talk to him. I was telling him his behavior was scaring me but instead of showing love compassion and empathy, he chose to mock me and invalidate me. Saying “yeah bc I’m so scary” with a sarcastic condescending tone. I was trying to tell him I was on his side and he mocked me saying “yeah yet ur kicking me out of the room”. With a huge attitude and left the room. I started crying so bad. I didn’t just kick him out. I told him to leave out of respect for myself bc I felt alone, unsafe and like I didn’t matter. He always had me justify why I was hurt by him yet I just had to understand that he wasn’t being loving bc of his depression. I left with my aunt the next day. He ended up blowing up my phone with the same shit he did when I found stuff on his laptop.

I am in this right now. Thank God you are out already. I'm not there yet, but working towards that. When you want to be heard, they mock you and dismiss, and when you try and help them, they call you the abuser. When you explain to them why you stay in silence, they act stupid. I am in that stage, of keeping my distance, although in the same house, to protect my mental health. Yet, he says that I'm abusing him. Go figure!

All spot on! No. 4, play the victim, was a hallmark of my ex CN. Always the victim, poor me. Ugh. So glad I finally divorced him, after 47 years. I never understood what a narcissist was till I happened to read an article and, man, were my eyes opened wide! So many things make sense now. Delighted to say I am now happily married to one of the most kind and unselfish men ever. Not a narcissistic bone in his body! Every single day is now a gift. ❤️

I am in this marriage 57 years and could not pin down my dissonance. Like you Sheryl I was not familiar with narcissism until a read about it by chance and BINGO! Glad to know it is spoken about it. My children do not see the covert. I had enough. I am pleased that you put your life the way it should be.

For sure. You are spot on. Trust ur gut its crying out to you to see what they are. Affection for a narc is exhausting but theyl expect u to give it constantly. Even if your great to them they'll spit it back into your face and then deny what they did even happened. Just give up dealing with them theyl drag you down then bugger off saying uve changed ur nasty. It's exhausting and pointless

No pity, no remorse, no apology and certainly to empathy. Totally incapable of these things. I thought I could change her but, the more to be nice and caring, the more I tried to drown myself in quicksand. I was inlove, I still do love her but, there is nothing, absolutely nothing that can be done. Only pain and heartache. I chose myself. Thank you so much for all you do for us. A religious female covert narcissist is what I went through.💔

Thank you so much for your video Rebecca. It is mind blowing seeing the last 5 years of my life relived through this video. I just recently divorced a covert narcissist and have an 18 month old child with her with 50/50 custody. Could you possibly post a video dealing with child custody with a narcissist? Being married to a narcissist was hard enough but sharing custody with one is a whole different level of stress. Thank you!

New sub. Great videos. Where were you in 2016? I needed you in my life when I was divorcing the covert narcissist. I did okay. I’m crushing him now. Have two kids with him. I have STRONG BOUNDARIES. Low contact. I got a court order for Our Family Wizard. It’s work dealing with these demons. But you can beat them. Stay the hell away from them once you leave. And Document everything.

It's always those health issues down to a headache. I've been trying for years to stay a step ahead of CN but step one is always so difficult because I'm big on communication. I have a lot of trouble not engaging or feeding in. I always think that I can say something or ask something that will make it stop. I read in the comments about keeping a journal. I'm an artist as well and I was thinking of using what I put in the journal for song lyrics but it's not really what I want to write about. Trying to find personal comfort and its rough. Thanks for the tips.

Duuuuuude ... I fucking love u and wish i could give u a hug. I am living thru it with three kids from that person. I cannot help but feed into it im ten years deep and im 33 ... I have recently realized i may die bc of this woman. She is abusive mentally and physically... I kno shes going thru mental shit of her own and as a light worker o feel like im obligated to help her.... Bc what does time even mean right.... But now my kids are watching this shit and its going to hurt them as individuals in their adult and teen years... Spiritual astral high five my dude!
