This was a super helpful intro to coronaviruses! Thank you! I am still trying to have a better understanding of RDRP if anyone has a good link with a more thorough explanation.

Very informative. This is the information I wanted to hear as a bio student... now if we only knew the mutation event or spillover source responsible..

Vincent Racaniello does a weekly or even daily KZbin cast. He's the author of maybe the most popular Virology text. You may be interested in checking him out!

What about fungus spores? Have they ever thought about treating it like a fungus spore? Not making a vaccine for fungal spores? Have they ever thought about making vaccine for pneumonia ? Have there ever thought about consider the symptoms is related to those that have allergies and is allergic to fungus and fungual spores ? Is it possibility that the virus took free flowing fungal spores as a host mutated it and spread not from person to but spore to spore.

Thanks very much for that beautiful lecture, in regards to comment at 48:56 of the presentation, check Clinical Infectious Diseases (2006) 42: 1561-9 regarding human genetic polymorphism for SARS CoV, a very interesting approach. I bet that something similar happens with this new SARSCoV 2. Thanks again for the superb presentation.

Fantastic lecture. Thank you very much. Virology has always been the nicest and most elegant part of molecular biology. The choice of primers you discuss must have huge public health implications - too many false negatives. We hope your insight will affect public policy for testing at scale.

The image of the lines wrapping around liquor stores in India is something that people like Fauchi do not understand, there will be far more victims of stress and it’s health consequences than of this virus. People who live entirely in universities to labs to conferences have zero connections to real life.

If public health measures work and the death toll is low you'll claim they went overboard, if they don't go far enough you'll claim they didn't act in your best interest.
