Covid-19 : We carry on
With the current Covid-19 situation around the world, random test was done on the field to see the extend of its effect on us working on the vessel. 13 of our crew members were selected for a swab test. This was conducted by 2 medical officers who flew in via chopper. Results came back few days later. All 13 of us were negative for covid-19. (Fuh!... thank God 😅😅😅) We carry on working as we usually do. Both Remote Operated Vehicles ROV the Work Class Quasar and Inspection Class Cougar were busy. Quasar utilising their manipulators(arms) to do most of their work. The Cougar also had inspection survey.
Meanwhile divers were cleaning risers and riser supports. And conducted NDT (non destructive test) inspection on the subsea structures.
We also had to replace old sacrificial anodes and weld new ones in its place. A very brief explanation of its purpose is to prevent corrosion of the platform and its subsea structures, i.e. prolonged the life span of the platform. Underwater welding using Miller welding generator and we used the broco welding rods and stinger(rod holder).
We were able to do all this continuously having support from the office team. We got food and stores before they run out. Spares for our equipment and for the project. They come in 10 foot containers. All frozen food came in special 10 foot containers that had temperature control so that what we receive is always kept at 5 Deg Celcius. Other stores came in separate rate dry containers. Generally we received 2 food containers and 2 for equipment spares. Offloading is tedious and tiring as seen from expression of HSE Rizal(his first time doing it).All made easy with teamwork and cooperation from all team members.
We also received fuel from Bunker vessel. We sent our hose to them and begin the process of bunkering (or refuelling)
Oil will be sent in drums separately in 10 foot containers.
All these can happen in daytime or night.
At the time of recoding, it was March to May 2020 , where at the end of April happens to be Ramadan, the fasting month. And after that, Eid or Hari Raya followed as it is called here. Work is as usual with the exception of a special meal prepared by the galley crew.

I took a GoPro 5 with underwater casing while welding and put a magnet under the camera’s mounting. It sticks well on the subsea structure. Truly a good action camera very robust and sturdy.
On surface I just had the camera on top of a magnet and it sticks well on our vessel surface.

Hello there! you have to go to a dive school and get your commercial diving qualifications. There's dive school in Australia,Canada, France, South Africa, United States...all depends on what kind of qualifications/dive tickets you seek and where you want to work.. After you get your competency with the dive rescue drills and dive helmets and some underwater tools..etc,etc...its time to join the industry👍🏼
