College football is Americas best kept secret. It’s so much better than NFL and filled to the brim with rivalries, history, and tradition. It also means more than the NFL bc it’s much more related to specific regions, so the fans are incredibly passionate

They sing "Won't Back Down" (Tom Petty) because the school is in Gainesville, Florida - birthplace of Tom Petty. He's worshipped there. My favorite is WVU and Take Me Home Country Roads. I am a native of West Virginia and although I didn't graduate from WVU, I still get tears in my eyes and sing along. Pride in being a Mountaineer. These were fun to watch. Thanks for the reaction.

The bird at Auburn is a full grown American or Bald eagle with about an 8-10 foot wingspan and 4” talons. It’s an incredible sight live. Worth a deep dive because it’s been loaned out for the Olympics and pro sports events, has a great story behind it and a noble objective of conservation.

War Damn Eagle! I am a proud alumnus and member of the Auburn Family! Attending that school changed me and made me a better person. I was also able to serve as one of the Tiger Eye instructors' from 2010-2018, so I have a National Championship ring....but more importantly, I was on the sidelines for Kick Six. It is so great to be an Auburn Tiger!

The NFL is NOTHING compared to college football. It's absolutely electric and college fans are fanatical about their teams....as I am about the Tennessee Volunteers. I graduated from Tennessee in 1976 and absolutely nothing can replace the pride that I have in my school and my team. I'm sure that all college fans feel the same way about their teams. It's a healthy rivalry that I hope lives on forever.

I've always liked Iowa. Waving to the kids in the hospital is just the best tradition. Plus, they wear the same uniforms as the pro team in my city. The story goes back in the '70s Iowa wanted to make a change to their uniforms, and someone decided that "If we're gonna be champions, we should look like champions." So they call up the Steelers equipment manager (Steelers were a dynasty in the '70s) and ask to be sent a few uniforms to use as a template. We sent them and to this day they're still wearing them.

College football is basically a cross between advertising for the school and just being a big flex to the opponents that they have the biggest stadiums, most fans, richest alumni, best cheerleaders, ect. The traditions are great though, and keep in mind that college footballs first game was almost 100 years before the first Super Bowl, and a little less than 50 years before the NFL was founded. Plus, state pride in the US is a really big thing, especially in the Midwest and South.

Marching band halftime shows are a traditional part of scholastic football but there are also pregame shows which are not only the opening act to the afternoon's festivities, they are the ritual of football, the call to gather the faithful, not only to stir the competitive fervor for the day's game but to connect us with those who came before us. You've watched several OSU halftimes, I think you would enjoy watching their pregame. Its form is set in tradition; the band has entered the stadium in the same manner for very nearly 100 years now. The music they play, the University's fight song and alma mater (American high schools and colleges have a school hymn/anthem referred to generically as "Alma Mater") are well over a century old; the band has been performing it's signature routine (pun intended) for 88 years. The video "Pregame - Ohio State vs. Arkansas State (9/10/22)" would be a good example for a reaction - decent tech quality and just the basic show.

HAIL STATE BABY🔥🙌🏼!! The Cowbells come from Mississippi State University’s (MSU) background as an agricultural school, and are hated by every SEC (Southeastern Conference, which MSU is a part of) school they play, but my god is it electric when every. single. State fan is Ringing their cowbell when we get a touchdown. It’s deafening, but inspiring at the same time. Also, RIP to the best coach ever, Mike Leach (you should react to him at some point, the mad genius of college football)!! We were blessed to have you as our coach in your last years! Gone way too soon, but man, did you leave an impact! I know you are still watching over us, swinging your sword and calling mesh routes from on high ⚔️🏈!

10:18 at Texas Tech, we've been tossin' tortillas at kickoff since the early 1990s. A rival team's player said, in a press conference before the game, that Lubbock (Texas Tech's location) is nothing but land and a tortilla factory. The fans brought tortillas and threw them at kickoff. This has since become tradition. We also had the first live mascot lead a team onto the field in the 1950s at the Gator Bowl. Several teams (Florida State and Oklahoma State) have adapted the Masked Rider mascot to fit their own school mascot. Oklahoma State has copied our mascot (a Tech alum instituted their live mascot), hand sign, and slogan, so we call them Xerox State. We are rivals in the Big 12 Conference.

They sing the Alma Mater and lock arms with the people next to each other win or lose. Stems from a game against Navy (American Navy's football team) during WW2 and did this with them to honor the troops.

I've been told by a close friend who went to Miss State, you're not a true fan unless you have a cowbell. They take it very seriously. And on my side, ahem ROLL TIDE, one tradition that not many people pick up on is that whenever Alabama (Crimson Tide) gets a 1st down and after the announcer says it, the crowd yells ROLL TIDE! Every... single... time 😝

Something else about the cowbell it's part of the tradition that someone gives you your first cowbell. It's a long history that dates back to when a dairy cow walked onto the field during an ole miss game where State came from behind in that game and won. It was very disrespectful when the SEC tried to ban it for a couple of decades as an artificial noise maker while Tennessee has been known to pipe in crowd noise on top of their 100k seat stadium.

Cow Bells! My mother started my team's cow bell tradition at football games. Anytime there was a great play going on or occurred, she'd ring a cow bell starting in 4th grade. We ended up losing only one game 4th grade through 9th grade seasons, but the varsity team was awful. We got a new head coach my 12th (Sr) year. Mom still rang those bells. First practice after our first public scrimmage, we watched film to review. First major play, there's that cow bell. Coach was like, wtf is that? That had been my grade's tradition, and he grew to like it. 14 years later, he's still there with a player's mom continuing the tradition of ringing cow bells

I said this on the original video, too; it’s REDICULOUS that the Nebraska clip didn't show the TUNNEL WALK! When the stadium first got the large video screen in 1994, the audio-visual people put together an animated video that would play on the screen as part of Pre-game. One of the best Tunnel Walk videos is from the game vs. Rice; the first college football game played after 9/11, on Sept. 20th. The video title is: Nebraska Tunnel Walk vs. Rice, 9-11 tribute Something no one else has mentioned: Nebraska holds the ONGOING record for the most consecutive sellouts in college sports, going back to 1962; the 4th game of this coming fall (on September 20th) will be the 400th.

I would recommend looking up documentaries on youtube or even just X University football traditions. There are a lot of well made, informative videos about college football. I’d recommend looking into programs like Michigan (and their rivalry w Ohio State), Alabama, Texas, and Florida. There’s lots more ‘storied’ programs as well, but that’s a good starting point. If you’re really interested and looking for some short form reaction content, I’d recommend looking into top high school football/athletic facilities. Same for college actually too. Their training facilities are top tier.

A simple college football game roughly last you about 2 1/2 to 3 hours but we turn it into a full day event. Likely its the biggest thing going on in the region or state. Anywhere from 60,000 to 120,000 people packed into the stadium. The tailgating parties normally start setting up a little after dawn if not the night before. Smokers and bbq, rib, brisket, tacos, nachos, burger, hotdog, and plenty of your favorite adult beverages. Most of the bigger schools have what essentially is a small pregame faire setup outside the stadium. Normally large screen TV playing either team related videos or other games in progress. Places where you can meet former players and the kids can get autographs. Merch vendors, food and drink vendor, even concerts by local bands. Each game is probably as big as the Footy finals at the MCG.

I love the University of Iowa's tradition of waving to the children. The only thing missing is...COWBELLS! Granted, other schools HATE our beloved cowbells, but then when you have 60,000+ ringing at the same time it can get a tad rowdy. At least we do practice cowbell ettiquette and we do have cowbell choreography. Saturdays at Davis-Wade are a true experience. #HailState!

7:41 - Yeah, that's Oklahoma. They're shouting "Boomer!.. Sooner!" For some reason, the football entrance video you watched left out the part where they had their horses and wagon being ran across the field in front of the players. Their mascot is a horse and wagon and they're called the Sooners because of a land rush event in the late 1800's (I think), where they lined up their wagons and rushed out to claim land. Last night our women's softball team won their 4th consecutive National Championship. Which has never been done before in the history of the sport.. They've been a juggernaut. Many of the seniors won a national championship every year that they played for the team.

Many of these towns are not close to a pro team so the college teams become the area or state’s team. This is the only way for some people to get to see a football team play live. The crowd is mostly students and parents of the players, band & cheerleaders followed by the local fans. I have to say having been to pro games and to college game…the are both a blast to go to.

Nebraska's football stadium was actually at one time the largest city in the state. It isn't any longer, thanks to the growth of their two largest cities, but it was something they were proud of. Oklahoma's mascot is the Sooner. Their chant is "Boomer! Sooner!" If you sit in a red seat, you yell Boomer. If you sit in a white seat, you yell Sooner. It is really impressive and somewhat demoralizing to visiting teams. Kansas State's use of the Wabash Cannonball came from a fire in the academic building that housed the music department. The only pieces of music left for the marching band were the Star Spangled Banner, the KSU fight song (Wildcat Victory) and Wabash Cannonball. The band played the latter two on repeat through the rest of that football season and a tradition was born. It's worth it to find the Pride of Wildcatland Marching Band to see the entire dance routine that the cheer squad & dance team do to it. Texas Tech is the college home of 3-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. He's still a dedicated Red Raider. I haven't seen Colorado in either of the videos so far. They have a bison that runs down the field. Yes, I am an Alum of the Big 12 conference, home (until recently) of all of these schools!

to be fair, there are a lot of tigers. Clemson is the one with an awful costume- looks like a cartoon tiger on meth, Auburn is the one that confuses Tigers and Eagles, LSU is the one with a real tiger named Mike at the stadium to intimidate opposing players when they come out of the locker room, Memphis is the one that thinks Tigers are blue, Mizzou is the one that thinks tigers are yellow. so it is a lot to keep track of.

Teams in order: 1. Iowa Hawkeyes 2. Clemson Tigers 3. Auburn Tigers - War Eagle is their “battle cry” (but do you not see the size of that bird lol? Thats a full blown Bald Eagle. They like a flying German Shepherd. They’re huge.) The song is Swag Surfin, look it up. 4. Georgia Bulldogs 5. Norte Dame Fightin Irish 6. Florida Gators 7. Texas A&M Aggies - (Not Bama) 8. Nebraska Cornhuskers - (song is Let Me Clear My Throat - DJ Kool) which was recorded live in 1996 at the Bahama Bay Club in Philly. 9. Texas Longhorns 10. Chokelahoma Sooners 11. I have no clue who that is. Kinda looks like Utah 12. Kansas Jayhawks 13. Mississippi State Bulldogs 14. Oklahoma State Cowboys 15. West Virginia Mountaineers 16. Texas Tech Red Raiders

CFB is the passion of american athletics. No where else will you see 100,000 people gather to chant their teams name in unison for 3 hours. Joe Namath said it best, " When you win, nothing hurts". The collegiate game just means more to everyone

Big universities in the US could have 30,000-70,000 students enrolled at all times. Everyone who ever attended or was employed by the school and cares about sports is probably a fan. Many are in smaller cities, and everyone in the local region is also a potential fan. So add that all together and you get a fairly large, personally dedicated, built-in fanbase. It's a huge deal for the big unis with top-level, successful sports programs, but there are a lot of lower tiers with minimal interest as well, sort of like the various levels of English football - not everyone plays in the Premier League and is on national television every week.

Bama Alumni, Starkville resident... The number of Aussies playing American college football pretty amazing, and making it to the NFL .. yes, it started with punters and kickers, but seeing them all through the lineups (yes a baseball term but it works) Adjusting to small town American South, some of the social media is hysterical from the guys!

Auburn University started as East Alabama Male College in the 1800s. It then became Alabama Technical Institute (Alabama Tech) and in the 1920s locals began calling it Auburn University but the State Legislature did not change the name until 1960. During this time span the football team mascot went from being the Plainsmen to the API Eagles to the Auburn Tigers. Hence the reason for the odd mixture of traditions. The trained eagle act uses a Golden Eagle which has been injured and cannot be returned to the wild for this reason. Otherwise, it would be illegal to use a bird of prey.

The Clemson entrance is so special. Ride up in the bus, touch Howard's Rock (who the stadium is named after, and the rock is from death valley) run down the hill while your fight song plays. Was dubbed "The Most Exciting 25 seconds in college football" and for good reason. It's also the hardest stadium to win in as a visitor in the last decade (Clemson are 65-3 when playing at home)

Somewhere in there was a snippet of Wabash Cannon Ball at a Kansas State game. Sorry I don't have the time stamp. Everything was purple. I don't know why they haven't shown the Rock Chalk Jay Hawk chant at the U. of Kansas. That is almost eery at some points.

Georgia visited Note Dame several years ago, and impressed their team and fans with not only taking over about 40% of their stadium, but introducing them to a night game tradition of lighting up the stadium with their cell phone lights during the fourth quarter break. Notre Dame now has that as their tradition as well. This is a unique phenomenon compared to much of European sports, where American (as well as Canadian) teams and fan bases are sports rivals, but we respect and enjoy the competition of one another. It is what were consider "good natured competition". We will will curse the other teams name on the street, but welcome each other in every other aspect. While we revile the other team is word, we'll aslo invite the opposing fan to sample some of our barbecue, and make sure that they have a fresh beer in their hand (well at least in college football, and namely SEC). But note, for every "rule" you will always find exceptions.

10:34 those are tortillas. Texas tech has two traditions 1) when the come on the field they are preceded by a masked rider in all black in a black horse who fires off (fake) guns as she rides across the field. 2) throw tortillas on the field when something good happens. This tradition has been cracked down on in the past few years and students have been getting suspended for it
